Carolina Performing Arts is once again honored to present the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and their joyful and uplifting repertoire. Designated by Congress as “a vital American cultural ambassador to the world,” this landmark company has been at the forefront of American dance since Alvin Ailey first staged his epoch-changing 1958 performance in New York. In continuing to honor the vision of founder Alvin Ailey, the company recreates and commissions performances that value eclecticism and make use of any number of different techniques to create a full, theatrical experience. Artistic Director Robert Battle has inherited this aesthetic while finding new and compelling directions for the company. giants
