Justin Maullin is in his seventh season as the head men’s soccer coach at UNCG in 2016 and his 12th season on the Spartans’ coaching staff. Last year, Maullin led the Spartans to the 2015 Southern Conference regular season championship with an 11-55 overall record and a 6-1-3 mark in league play. The Spartans were undefeated at home during league play (3-0-2) and finished the year with a 6-2-3 record. UNCG ended the 2015 campaign ranking seventh in the nation in scoring offense at 2.19 goals per game. The Spartans dominated the SoCon postseason honors with Jacques Francois earning league Player of the Year nods and Leeroy Maguraushe picking up SoCon Freshman of the Year accolades. Additionally, the Spartans placed seven on the league’s All-SoCon Team and had two members named to the SoCon All-Freshman Team. In 2014, the Spartans placed three on the Southern Conference All-Freshman Team and had two members named to the All-SoCon First Team. The Spartans have had a member on the rookie team in all five seasons under Maullin’s guidance, including four seasons with multiple honors. Additionally, the Spartans earned NSCAA All-Academic Team accolades for the fourth straight year under Maullin’s tutelage. In 2013, the Spartans finished third in the SoCon and placed two players on the all-league team in seniors Mahdi Ali and Oddur Gudmundsson. UNCG also had two members on the SoCon All-Freshman Team in Hugo Coicaud and Rouven Wahlfeldt. In 2012, the Spartans placed two players on the All-SoCon team in senior forward Hakan Ilhan and goalkeeper Peyton Ford. It marked the third straight year that Ilhan has been honored in the SoCon postseason awards. Additionally, freshman Lukas Zarges was named to the SoCon All-Freshman team. In 2011, the Spartans allowed just one goal against in SoCon play, out-scoring opponents 13-1. The Spartans had five members named to the Southern Conference postseason teams. Senior Kris Byrd and junior forward Hakan Ilhan picked up First Team honors while junior goalkeeper Peyton Ford and freshman Austin Miller picked up Second Team accolades. Maullin spent the 2010 season with the “interim” head coaching title but made his promotion an easy decision for UNCG Director of Athletics Kim Record, who officially made him the program’s seventh head coach Nov. 22, 2010. Maullin guided the Spartans to a share of the Southern Conference regular season title, the SoCon Tournament championship and the program’s 12th NCAA Tournament appearance since 1991. He was the easy choice for SoCon Coach of the Year honors, becoming the first rookie head coach in the 22-year history of the conference tournament to claim the title. Maullin, who succeeded long-time head coach Michael Parker, led UNCG to an 11-match unbeaten streak (8-0-3), which culminated with a 1-0 win over Furman in the Southern Conference Tournament championship game. Maullin had just nine players return from the 2009 roster and brought 19 new players into the program. Seven of those new players were in the starting lineup on opening night. Among the new players were five all-conference selections, including the Southern Conference’s eventual leading scorer Hakan Ilhan. Maullin was promoted to the UNCG top spot after spending five years as the program’s full-time assistant form

2005-2009. During his time as an assistant, the Spartans won two SoCon regular season titles and advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2005, 2006 and 2008. A native of Johannesburg, South Africa, Maullin spent six seasons as an assistant at UCF before coming to UNCG. During Maullin’s tenure at UCF, the Golden Knights won 10 or more matches in five out of six seasons, advancing to the NCAA tournament each of his last three seasons.. Maullin attended William Carey College in Gulfport, Miss. He graduated from William Carey in 1997 with a bachelor’s degree in management and marketing. During his time with the Crusaders, he served as a team captain and earned NAIA Academic All-America honors. He helped William Carey rise to a No. 1 national ranking his senior year. Maullin was drafted into the Eastern Indoor Soccer League. He played two years for the Cocoa Expos and two years for the Central Florida Kraze. In 1993 he signed with the New Orleans Gamblers. After his graduation from William Carey, he stayed on with the Crusaders as an assistant men’s soccer coach for two seasons, helping to guide the Crusaders to back-to-back NAIA national semifinal appearances. He helped William Carey to a No. 1-ranking again as an assistant coach in 1997 and 1998. In April 2007, Maullin was inducted into William Carey’s Wall of Fame for his post-graduation successes. Four years later, he was inducted as a member of the inaugural Hall of Fame class at William Carey. Maullin earned a master’s degree from UCF in business administration in December 2001. Kim Record - Director of Athletics Kim Record is in her eighth year as the Director of Athletics at UNCG in 2016-17. Record was named to the post Sept. 27, 2009 and leads a program that fields men’s and women’s teams in 17 sports, over 250 student-athletes and 70 employees. She was honored as one of 28 Under Armour Athletic Director of the Year award recipients at the 2014 NACDA Convention in Orlando in the NCAA Division I-AAA category. Since arriving, Record has reshaped and revamped the athletic department across the board. UNCG has seen improvements on the field and has stimulated interest within the campus and Greensboro communities. During her first seven years at UNCG, Record has implemented ‘The Spartan Way’ strategic plan in an effort to ensure the continued success and future improvement of Spartan Athletics. The plan includes five core values and six goals for the department summarized with the motto – ‘We discover and develop champions in life.’ Record has guided UNCG to success on and off the court during her time in Greensboro. In 2015-16, the Spartans had five teams finish in the top three of the Southern Conference regular season standings, including the men’s soccer team, which won the regular season crown. Additionally, the men’s basketball team qualified for the postseason for just the fourth time in program history and hosted a postseason game for the first time in program history in the College Basketball Invitational (CBI). In the classroom, the Spartans placed 141 student-athletes on the Southern Conference Honor Roll for the 2015-16 season. UNCG also had three name as Academic All-America last season in Noah DeAngelo (men’s soccer), Lucy Mason (women’s basketball) and Nicole Thomas (softball). Record guided UNCG through the NCAA Division I Certification process in 2011-12, which must be completed at least once every 10 years. The certified designated denotes that an institution operates its athletics program in compliance with operating principles adopted by the Division I membership. Record, who served on the NCAA Championships cabinet in 2012-13, is also the vice-chair of the Greensboro Sports Commission, an active member with the Greensboro Rotary, a member of the Greensboro Sports Council and a member of the Women’s Professional Forum. The 2015-16 athletic scholarship fund goal was $425,000 and the Spartan Club eclipsed that mark by raising a total of $425,329, an all-time high. Over the past five years, the Spartan Club has raised more cash and gifts in kind than any other five-year period in the program’s history. In addition, the Spartan Club and the Student-Athlete Advisory Council coordinated the True Spartan Challenge, a student-athlete giving campaign that saw 100 percent of UNCG student-athletes make a gift back to their team enrichment funds for the third consecutive year. Record also has a lead role in strategic planning and in athletics facilities development. She helped complete the facility upgrades at the UNCG Baseball Stadium and the renovations of the HHP locker room facilities. The 12,000 square foot HHP facility hosts team lounges, shower facilities and general locker room areas for men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s cross country and track, men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball and softball. In 2011-12 alone, the Spartans posted five regular season titles under her watch, including championship banners in men’s and women’s cross country, men’s soccer, women’s tennis and a divisional title in men’s basketball. Record emerged from a national search that drew 125 candidates, and is UNCG’s first female athletic director. In her 13 years at Florida State, she had a broad range of administrative duties, including serving as a member of the Executive Management Team, which determined and implemented policy decisions for a 19-sport, $50 million intercollegiate program. She directly supervised three sports programs – men’s and women’s basketball and women’s soccer – and monitored Title IX compliance.
