Sponsor: Outdoor Adventure Center Slacklining is a new concept that has become popular throughout colleges across the US. By definition slacklining is an act of balancing on a narrow piece of webbing stretched between two points (usually trees). Toga Party Finish Line Wilson Park Sponsor: Alternative Breaks and UPC Alternative Breaks and UPC will be showing a movie on the amphitheater lawn on Friday, August 23rd at 8:30pm. The first 100 students to show up for the movie will receive a free UNA blanket. In the case of rain, the movie will be shown in the GUC Performance Center. Toga Run 5K What is it? Sponsor: Office of Student Engagement and UPC UNA is hosting the first Toga Run 5K on Saturday, August 24th. The 3.1 miles will kick off at Norton Auditorium. The fee to race is $5 for UNA students and $10 for community members and all proceeds will benefit Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the Shoals. Come dressed in your best toga and ready to race! Sponsor: Student Engagement This is a mandatory event for at least three members of every Recognized Student Organization to attend in order to be trained in several areas including diversity, student allocation training, etc. RSOs must register for the event through the ‘forms’ link at www.una.edu/student-engagement. Check in begins at 8:30 a.m., with the conference beginning at 9 a.m. Students must be present the whole time to get credit for attending. Aug. 24 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Guillot University Center Toga Party What is it? Sponsor: Office of Student Engagement and UPC After the Toga Run, comes the Toga Party! Along with the finish line, there will be local music, restaurants and vendors set up at Wilson Park to help introduce students to creative side of the Shoals area. The party is free for everyone! Registration fee is $65 before Aug. 1; $75 after Aug. 1. Women will meet all four sororities giving them a chance to receive an invitation to join one of the sororities Aug. 29 through Sept. 2 (Deadline to register is Aug. 24.) Sponsor: Office of Diversity and Institutional Equity Students will meet & greet fellow students, faculty, staff & student multicultural organizations while enjoying good food & music. Door prizes will be given. All are welcome! Aug. 26 at 6 p.m. GUC Amphitheater. Rain Site: GUC Atrium IFC Recruitment is September 3-7 and it is free to attend. Men will meet all 7 chapters and learn about each one. On the final day, men who attend could potentially receive an invitation to join a fraternity. When is it? National Pan-Hellenic Council When is it? NPHC does not participate in recruitment. They will have NPHC Convocation which serves as a general interest meeting for the 6 organizations of the council.
