UNIVERSITY OF DELAWARE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL 2012-13 IN REVIEW

ELENA DELLE DONNE Elena Delle Donne is one of the most illustrious student-athletes, if not the most, in University of Delaware history. The Wilmington, Del. native graduated from UD in May 2013 after four successful seasons playing for the Blue Hens women’s basketball squad. The three-time Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year is first in 10 different categories, including scoring, in the Delaware women’s basketball record books in addition to taking reign over five statistical areas in CAA history. Delle Donne wrapped up her distinguished collegiate career as fifth all-time in NCAA women’s basketball history with 3,039 points. The guard/forward collected double figure points performances in 113 of 114 games played with the Blue Hens. This past season, Delle Donne helped lead the Blue Hens to the Sweet 16 for the first time in school history. During her four years at Delaware, the Hens amassed 104 total victories and two CAA championships. Delle Donne joined elite company in Maya Moore, Karen Jennings and Michelle Flamoe after being named a back-to-back Capital One Academic All-American. Additionally, Delle Donne earned the Senior CLASS honoree. The second overall pick by the Chicago Sky in the 2013 WNBA Draft, Delle Donne earned the league’s Rookie of the Year award in September 2013 after sweeping Rookie of the Month honors.
