BEING EFFICIENT E

ntering his first full season as a starter, Blake Bortles looks to improve on an impressive redshirt freshman campaign. His strong play earned him All-Conference USA Freshman Team honors. Bortles made 10 appearances and tossed six touchdowns compared to three interceptions. The sophomore fired 75 completions on 110 attempts (68.2 percent) for 958 yards. His efficiency helped the Knights move from 41st to 19th in the nation in interceptions from 2010 to 2011. Bortles helped the Knights improve by 51.6 yards in passing yards per game from 2010 to 2011. His biggest game of the season came at Southern Miss when he had 24 completions on 34 attempts for 248 yards and two touchdowns. Bortles followed that

up with another two-touchdown performance at East Carolina. The Oviedo native recorded his first career touchdown pass against SMU, while he made his first-collegiate appearance against Charleston Southern, completing 80 percent of his passes in that game. He also finished at 80 percent with 4-for-5 numbers vs. BYU. Against UTEP in the final game of the season, he completed 75 percent of his passes and threw for one touchdown. Tyler Gabbert will begin his first season with the Knights, as the redshirt sophomore transferred from Missouri after his freshman year and sat out last season before deciding to sign with the Knights last spring. The brother of NFL quarterback Blaine Gabbert, Tyler was highly recruited coming out of high school. He was ranked as the

No. 12 overall quarterback prospect, and the No. 8 prospect in the state of Missouri. Redshirt senior Rob Calabrese switched to wide receiver, but could see time in the Wild Knight formation. Calabrese has 12 passing touchdowns and has thrown for 1,240 yards in his career. Providing depth at the position will be redshirt freshman Mitchell Bourne and freshman Troy Green. Bourne received a lot of snaps during the 2012 spring season, and Green arrives at UCF following a senior campaign at Skaneateles High School in New York where he completed 68 percent of his passes and threw for 34 touchdowns.
