UAPB’s most anticipated black tie gala, the Chancellor’s Benefit for the Arts,

was chocked full of entertaining musical delights, heartfelt special presentations, and delectable food. Now in it’s 24th year, the Chancellor’s Benefit seeks to raise money to provide education

opportunities to UAPB students in the performing and visual arts programs on campus. This year’s event themed “Hearts of Fire” paid tribute to four individuals whose passion, commitment, and dedication to UAPB, the students, and the Pine Bluff community. Honorees were: Vesper Choir director, Dr. Michael Bates; UAPB Band director, Mr. John Graham; Men’s Basketball coach, Coach George Ivory; and Mrs. Sue Trulock, former director of the Jefferson County Museum were each honored by video and musical tributes that best illustrated their heart of fire. The Vesper Choir and Jazz Ensemble collaborated to present an entertaining and upbeat musical medley, arranged by Mr. Milton Jackson. Live instrumental and vocal performances were provided by AM&N ‘61 alumni, Benjamin Pruitt, Sr.; UAPB ‘10 alumni Christopher Johnson, and current UAPB students Tim Yarbrough, Maya Ellington, and Stephan Burse. A special presentation was also made to Dr. B. Alan Sugg, president of the University Arkansas System, who announced his retirement earlier in the year.

Planning is already underway for the 25th Annual Chancellor’s Benefit for the Arts slated to take place at the Pine Bluff Convention Center on Saturday, February 18, 2012.
