Support Staff Charlie Hogan Academics | Second Season at UAB | Eighth Season Overall

C

harlie Hogan joined UAB Athletics in August 2010 as the Academic Advisor for Men’s Basketball. He also serves as the Community Service Coordinator for the Student Athlete Services Support Center. Prior to coming to UAB, Hogan worked at the University of Wyoming where he was the academic coordinator for the men’s basketball and wrestling programs. The men’s basketball program set a school record

for the highest single season APR score under his watch. Hogan got his start in athletics while attending graduate school at Louisiana Tech. He began working in the Athletic Academic Center as a graduate assistant. During his time there, he was promoted to the academic contact for football and finally to acting assistant athletic director for academics. Other responsibilities for Hogan included working as the academic advisor for men’s and women’s basketball, directing the student-athlete tutoring program, and overseeing the student-athlete book loan program. Hogan is a graduate of Louisiana Tech University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in computer information systems in 2004 and a

master’s degree in industrial organizational psychology in 2007. Hogan worked at ESPN 97.7 FM, one of the nation’s largest all sports talk stations, from 20032009. There, he worked as play-by-play talent for collegiate and high school football, basketball, baseball and softball broadcasts. Hogan also was an on-air producer for the Louisiana Tech, LSU, and Grambling State radio networks. A native of Choudrant, Louisiana, Hogan has been married to the former Jennifer Larsen since April 2010. He is an active member of the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics.

Judy Nichols Administrative Assistant | 34th Season Overall

udy Nichols is serving in her 34th year with the UAB athletic department and is the longest tenured employ-

ee in the department. During that time, Nichols worked under Gene Bartow as his administrative associate for basketball and while he was the Director of Athletics. After working under former UAB AD Herman Frazier, she returned to the basketball

office under former head coach Mike Anderson. She now handles administrative duties for Mike Davis’ program. She also helps coordinate the UAB men’s basketball camps during the summer. Nichols was born and raised in Louisiana where she lived before moving to Birmingham 35

Vic Salem 29th Season Overall

ic Salem has been an invaluable contributor to the UAB basketball program for a long time. The 2011-12 season marks Salem’s 29th

season with UAB basketball. He also is in his 15th year with the women’s basketball program. His duties include helping out with practice and assisting the coaches and managers whenever needed. He came to UAB in 1982 when he joined the staff under former head coach Gene Bartow. In the years since, Salem has seen the program grow. He

enjoys working with the basketball team and being a part of UAB. In 1996, Salem was awarded with a UAB Varsity Honorary Letter, which is given to people surrounding the UAB athletic program who have made significant contributions to help better Blazer athletics.
