Hale Stadium - “The Hole”

WILLIAM JASPER HALE Hale Stadium is a 15,000-seat outdoor stadium located on the campus of Tennessee State University. Built in 1953 and affectionately nicknamed “The Hole”, the stadium hosted TSU Tigers football games until 1999, home games were then moved to LP Field, home of the Tennessee Titans.

in 1982, with the Tigers defeating Eastern Illinois University 20-19 in front of a crowd of 8,000. During their years at Hale, TSU Football went undefeated ten times, won ten championships in the now-defunct Midwestern Conference and claimed the Ohio Valley Conference championship in 1998, its final season in the stadium.

The facility was named for William J. Hale, who served as TSU’s first president. It remains in use as the site of TSU’s annual spring football game, as well as hosting Homecoming festivities.

In the last game at Hale Stadium, Tennessee State won 28-14 over Texas Southern University on November 21, 1998.

The stadium hosted a second-round NCAA Division I-AA playoff game

In 2012, the Tigers return to ‘The Hole’ . TSU hosts three games starting with Austin Peay on Sept. 15.
