it was impossible not to be inspired by our surroundings at the photo shootfor the home spotlighted on this month’s cover and in the feature “The BalconesHouse.” Elizabeth Alford, her husband, Michael Young (both of Pollen Architecture),and their two children graciously opened their true labor of love to our crew, and weall enjoyed pretending it was our house for a day, imagining the dinner parties wewould have or the pleasure of glancing up from a good book and seeing the wonderfulview of the treetops from the house. You could feel how every detail in the home hadbeen painstakingly thought out to achieve an end result that feels ultramodern butwarm and livable at the same time. Alford and her family of makers have created theideal space for their vibrant brood.
