Loto, the obstinate leader of a remote indigenous tribe, is forced to shack up with a white Christian missionary. When a powerful postindustrial nation tries to force her people to assimilate into the “civilized” world, she decides to travel around the world with the missionary (Haydn) in search of an approved religion. Along the way, she meets a Muslim feminist (Barika), a crazed druid (Ursula), a Buddhist nun (Katsumi), and many other multidimensional women.
