Lightning Finally Strikes

By Rainer Arnold Tribune Sports Editor

The Lightning, U-8 co-ed team of coach Le Church, JR Murray and Rainer Arnold finally managed to get on the winners side of the circle last Saturday as they played another U-8 team at Elan. All the goals were scored for the Lightning by Allie Langford. The opponent scored first and a few minutes later Langford struck for her first goal of the season. The opponents struck right back but the Lighting shot back twice to gain a 4-3 victory. The Lightning has to play 3 more games before the season is over. Defenders Garrett Murray, Liam King did a good job on defense while Allie Langford, Nicholas Hauser and Samantha Church did great at their respective

forward positions. Members of the Lightning are Liam King, Allie Langford, Samantha Church, Nicholas Houser, Ellee King, Garrett Murrary, Syler Church, and Nicholas Sysco. Last Thursday afternoon the Lightning managed to avenge an earlier loss to U-8. The Lightning had lost 5-1 ten days ago and last Thursday managed to win 5-1. The Lightning scored first and then allowed their opponents to tie the game. Nicholas Houser, Allie Langford, Garrett Murray, Nicholas Sysco and Liam King all contributed with nice goals for a game with a happy ending.

Towns wrestlers and coach with Steve Luke 2009 NCAA champ from Michigan

Three varsity wrestlers from Towns County competed in National Tournament in Columbus Ohio on April 24th. The Ohio Tournament of Champions is the largest one day Amateur Wrestling Tournament in the world. There were over 2600 kids registered from almost every state in the nation. Our three boys were Josh Barnes (Junior), Timmy Collier (Sophomore), and Tyler Hoffman (Freshman). The competition was the best the boys had ever seen. Hoffman did manage to get two wins under his belt before he had an episode with dehydration and had to be helped off the mat. It was an amazing event to be a part of. We were proud of how the boys performed and carried themselves. They did a great job representing Towns County.

Towns Bulldogs win Again Submitted by Amy Barrett

Tyler Hoffman wrestled for Elite Training Center in his first ever Freestyle and Greco Roman wrestling tournament this past weekend at Lambert High School. Hoffman said it was a whole different world from the Folk style that he was used to wrestling. USA wrestling offers Freestyle and Greco tournaments in the spring and summer seasons for those who want to compete in the different styles and work on their wrestling in the off season. Hoffman, who is trying to improve his skills for next season with the Indians, ended the day with a Bronze medal around his neck for placing 3rd in Greco Roman.

Town’s County Bulldogs won their third soccer game last Thursday. They are a local soccer under ten team coached by Tim Barrett. Players include: Riley Nicholson, Cooper Olin, Jenson Brown, Colton Wheatley, Melissa Caldwell, Justin Munger, Savannah Mitchell, Peyton Barrett, Casey Henderson, Madison Lovell, and Larson Church. Cooper Olin set the mood by scoring the fist goal. Riley Nicholson would soon follow up the second. Several others scored as well. These kids really have a nose for the goal, and aren’t afraid to take a shot. This team plays well together. They have really practiced hard all season long and it really has paid off. They are holding their positions and are communicating to each other on the field. It was no surprise that they have won their last three games. Keep up the good work!!!!!!!
