Table of Contents Camrose's allure and vitality are rarely rivaled…and this dynamic and warmhearted community nestled in central Alberta just begs to be discovered! The City has a population of over 17,000 and a trading area of over 100,000. The Camrose County, population of approximately 8,000, surrounds the City on all four sides. The top five largest ancestries for the area are Scandinavian, German, English, Scottish, and Irish. Both CNR and CPR provide daily rail service, and Highways 13, 21 and 26, and Secondary 833 lead directly to Camrose. The City has a certified airport with a paved, lighted runway over 4,000 metres (4,500 ft. ) long. Plus the Edmonton International Airport is only 72 km (46 miles) away. The Camrose region is committed to the preservation and protection of natural park areas, a clean and healthy environment, and to the safety of all residents. Citizens take pride in the tremendous natural corridors that provide picturesque backdrops for the City's and County's extensive outdoor parks and recreational grounds. The Camrose region is vibrant and alive…offering arts and culture, sports and recreation, and numerous festivals and events. A passionate entrepreneurial spirit thrives here; as a result, you can always count on exceptional, friendly service from our many specialty retailers. Whether you're looking for information on Alberta, or other provinces, this VIC offers a tremendous variety of complimentary brochures and maps. It's also the best place to get the most up-to-date information on things to do in Camrose. While at the VIC, take time to also inspect the hand-built replica of a Viking longship, and the amazing nature mural at our front entrance.

Heritage Points of Interest Get acquainted with our past - twenty educational and historic points of interest depicting the development stages of Camrose, are strategically placed along the three km walking paths surrounding the beautiful reflective Mirror Lake. Mirror Lake is also the starting point of 36 km of paved/shale walking trails that wind gracefully through the Stoney Creek Valley and the central part of the city, presenting

an outstanding natural setting for walkers, runners, and cyclists. In winter, trails are meticulously groomed and have become known internationally for accommodating the best cross-country skiing and biathlon around.

Polish Mutes and Trumpeter Swans Spring is officially recognized in Camrose when the local Trumpeter Swans and Mutes are released from their winter compound and set free on Mirror Lake. These majestic beauties add a natural complement to our already picturesque landscapes; and when not nesting, can usually be found close by the spray of the Rotary Fountain on 48 Ave. For over five decades, Camrose has participated in various swan education programs and conservation initiatives.

Art Walk - June through August Enjoy our 19th Camrose Art Walk featuring a variety of local and visiting artists from May 30 – Aug 31st. During this time, art of many different forms is on display and for sale at several venues throughout central and downtown Camrose.

Mirror Lake Express Train Rides This popular little train, 92 feet long and carrying 24 passengers, was beautifully crafted by a resident of Camrose. It is truly an amazing work of art! Plan to be in Camrose on a Tuesday or Thursday evening during the summer months, and take a leisurely train ride along the picturesque shores of Mirror Lake.

The Centennial Museum contains thousands of artifacts proudly displayed in 13 individual buildings. Take your time to visit the Firehall, the Canadian (the local newspaper), the Blacksmith Shop, The Lugs N' Cleats building, The Likeness School, and many others. (Further details on page 10). The Heritage Railway Station and Park: Anything Trains! Wander inside the 1911 3rd-Class station at the Heritage Railway Station and Park (see also page 10), and tap- out a Morse code message on the telegraph key or have an authentic Victorian tea party in the marvellous King George room. The outside grounds are spectacular, with bunkhouses of historical pictures, colorful gardens of old-fashioned heritage flowers in full bloom during three seasons, and a railway garden complete with model buildings and trains.

University of Alberta Augustana Campus With a student-faculty ratio of 16-1, professors will know you by name. Our 40acre campus is just a short walk away from city center with all its amenities; plus the 'aspen parkland' terrain provides students with easy access to a variety of outdoor activities including cross-country running, skiing, and biathlon. Camrose is a proud member of the Boomtown Trail – Boomtown Trail Communities sprang to life almost overnight around a century ago, spurred on by the expansion of the railways. This rapid development led to a distinctive style of architecture, characterized by a grandly designed front façade covering a more humble building behind it – known as 'boomtown' architecture.
