EDIT R'S

-----LETTER

elcome back to our third edition and I am so excited to dedicate this edition to the bubbling youth of our society! The cover story of this edition features the child prodigy "Arnav" who at the age of 12 achieved the unachievable! With the mind of an adult but humbleness of a child Arnav is perfect example of the tremendous potential the youth of today have. As we grow older, we grow wiser but also "more" rigid; limiting our ability to adapt and learn from each other. But a child is like a sponge so willing to absorb, learn and flex without the apprehensions of fear or judgement. Yes, they are fountains of energy, energy that tires us sometimes but the same energy if channeled right can do wonders! And we have a lot to learn from these little masters too! Childhood means simplicity, if only we could look at this world with the child's eye, this world would be a better place. So, I would like to extend a shout out to the young readers of TopPick and invite you to collaborate, write to us, tell us what you like and what you would like to see in here. We would love to hear from you!

Feel free to share any hidden inspirational personalities that you would like to share with us, we willfeature them in our magazine & website. Email us your story at contact@toppick4u.com WARM REGARDS,

Commit till the end. Never ever give up.

Believes in Commitment till the end. Never ever give up. What three pieces of advice would you give to college students who want to become entrepreneurs? Really think it through. Dreams are good but planning is better. Commit till the end. Never ever give up (and never say never!) Ensure you are surrounded with support. There's no "I" in Team, make sure you always have someone to lean on, because doing it all on your own is just too much. The restaurant business runs in our family and our degrees are in hospitality too. All of the above was prior to becoming entrepreneurs. So it wasn't so much a spark, but seems more like destiny or fate was inevitable. Excluding yours, what company or business do you admire the most?

Bailey Orthodontics. The moment you walk in, you feel the positive energy pulsing from ever part of the practice. The entire team makes you feel welcome, everyone is very warm, the process is very well organised and the end results are always fabulous, it's an all in all package deal. I cannot sing Dr. Bailey & his practice's praises enough, every single experience is flawless. Our entire family goes there and we can guarantee we will be lifetime customers - we'd even take our dog if they offered services for canines! What are your hobbies? What do you do in your non-work time? We enjoy travelling and make it a point to leave the country with our kids at least once a year. We especially like discovering new countries and exposing ourselves to new cultures it's a great way to learn.

I thoroughly enjoy being creative and building memories through crafting scrapbooks & photobooks, when I have a spare moment (very rare nowdays!) On the other hand, Ravi in his spare time indulges in eating out, trying new cuisines and restaurants and watching movies to unwind. Together, we also love entertaining and spending quality time with our family and friends. What has been your most satisfying moment in business? Reading our first set of amazing reviews from customers when we opened Rodizio Grill. It really touched us and made us feel justified in doing what we do. What ignited the spark in you to start a business venture? We've always been "foodies" and when we say "foodies" we mean we enjoy great tasting, delicious foods and a variety of dishes and meals. We're very social and naturally love welcoming guests.

REBM©ND eEO CHARGED WITH FRAUD ON M©RE frHAN 100 H-1B VISA APPLICATIONS The Justice Department charged Pradyumna Kumar Samal, the chief executive of Redmond firms Divensi and Azimetry, with using a tactic called "bench-and-switch" to fraudulently get high-tech visas. The U.S. Department of Justice charged a Redmond CEO with visa fraud last week, saying he hired more than 100 foreign workers over several years by using falsified documents to apply for visas commonly used by workers in the high-tech industry. Pradyumna Kumar Samal is the chief executive of two technology firms in Redmond, Divensi and Azimetry, that act as contracting firms for big tech companies in the region, hiring engineers and assigning t h e m to p r o j e c t s a t t h e c l i e n t companies.

The Justice Department's charges against Samal, filed last week in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington, allege that he made use of a tactic called "bench-and-switch" to get the high-tech, or H-1 B, visas approved. The case focuses on 137 approved visa applications that indicated that a worker was needed for a specific project for a client, and included letters apparently from the clients confirming this. The federal government's case alleges these projects did not exist, the letters were not

actually written by the clients, and Samal included the invented projects in the applications to improve the chances of quick approval. workers aren't invited to the party. Jon Talton When the worker got to the U.S., he or she would not be assigned to the project listed on the visa application, the worker starts, so they may end up working on a different project than what the company originally intended. Butler said that the investigation and charges against Sama I "reflect the current hostility toward business immigration in a zero tolerance environment. Companies like his have helped keep the economy vibrant by providing H-1 B tech workers for short-term projects."

IMMIGRATION ATTORNEY

H- l B visas are highly competitive and sought after in the tech industry. The three-year work visas, which allow companies to bring in foreign workers with high-tech skills, are limited under an annual quota and are subject to a lottery each year. Big tech companies have advocated for reform of the system in recent years, calling for more annual spots and criticizing some information technology outsourcing firms for hiring visa holders at lower salaries and often dominating the annual lottery. Divensi filed 390 applications for H-1 B visas in 2016. That was the fifth-highest application tally in Washington state, ranking it behind Microsoft, Amazon and outsourcing companies Infosys and HCL America. On its website, Divensi lists many big tech companies as customers, including Microsoft, Amazon and Tableau. Samal is believed to have been instruental in the "bench and-switch" scheme, according to the department's case, which says he regularly reviewed application material before it was submitted and instructed his employees to "market" the potential visa holders to other clients. The executive was arrested at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport Tuesday as he got off an international flight, according to the Department of Justice. He fled during the investigation, the agency said. Butler said the executive did not flee the country but rather traveled to India on business, and then returned home. Samal appeared to get pushback from a client after the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), part of the Department of Homeland Security, started investigating Samal. The CEO of a client company used in the application letters emailed Samal after USCIS contacted him, according to the case. "I received this email from the Visa office asking if I signed this," the email from a CEO, identified in court documents as V.K., reads. "I did not. I don't even know who this resource is. This is concerning? Pis advise on how this happened?" In a news release about the case, the Department of Justice said workers applying for the visas were required to pay Divensi and Azimetry a partially-refundable fee, which sometimes reached $5,000, for the two companies to sponsor the application. The applications discussed in the court case are from the period between 2012 and 2015 . The government is continuing to investigate additional applications from 2016 and 2017. SEPTEMBER+ OCTOBER

YOUR GATEWAY TO GREEN CARD

EBS INVESTMENT VISA

What is the minimum investment required? If the investment is made in an area that has been designated a Targeted Employment Area (TEA), the investment is a minimum of $500,000.00.

When and for whom was the EB-5 visa program created? The EB-5 visa program was created in 1990 under section 203(b)(5) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). The program was created by Congress to allow foreign nationals to seek permanent resident status on the basis of an investment in the US economy.

For how long is the "green card" valid? The investor and dependents receive a conditional, 2-year green card. Before the expiration of the two year period, a petition is submitted to the USCIS confirming that the investment has been made and that ten jobs have been created as a result of the investment.

How many EB-5 visas may be issued per year? There are l 0,000 EB-5 visas available to qualified aliens each year. 3,000 of these visas are designated for foreign nationals who invest through a program at a USCIS-designated Regional Center.

How long does the application process take? In general, the process takes less than one year. After the 1-526 petition is approved, it is forwarded to the overseas consulate or United States USCIS for further processing and final visa issuance/conditional residency approval.

How does the EB-5 visa differ from an L-1 visa (manager transfer)? With an EB-5 visa, you obtain a green card for conditional and then permanent residence in the United States. After 5 years, the investors and their family may obtain US citizenship, subject to meeting all immigration requirements.

Where can I find more information about the EB-5 visa program? Further information regarding the application process, requirements, and benefits of the EB-5 visa program can be found on the website of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (www.uscis.gov).

Who may obtain an EB-5 visa? Any person who can to invest the required amount into the US economy, can document that the capital was legally earned, and satisfies general eligibility requirements (e.g., medical, criminal.typically) is qualified to apply. The investor's spouse and any minor children (under 21) also qualify. The age of the minor children is "frozen" at the time of the application so, for example, a 20-year old dependent is not in danger of "aging out" during the process.

BEST TIPS ON HOW TO SAVE MONEY WHILE YOU ARE YOUNG First Job and Your Dad tell you start saving, Saving is seen as the most cumbersome task by most millennials. When there are hundreds of means to splurge and only one major means of earning - the monthly pay cheque, savings remain at the bottom of the 'to do list' for most of the younger lot. But most of them buy the idea that savings are essential for a better future. If you are one of them, here are some easy tips to reach your target in early years of working life.

Budget it

Make a note of your spending categories - daily commute, eating out, rent, utility bills, entertainment and so on. Try to figure out where you do spend. You can give a modern touch to the old idea of budgeting by bringing in an opp or a spreadsheet. By end of the month you will realise that there is scope for saving. Well, most of you will argue that it is not about whether there is scope to save, but it is about actual saving.

Automate it

If you are not sure, if you will cut yours spends, opt for a recurring deposit that transfers a stipulated amount of money, say Rs 5000, out of your salary bank account to a recurring fixed deposit. This makes your saving goal a little more accessible. You may also want to plug the leaking holes. You may want to 'unsubscribe' from all mailing lists of online retailers. You can also opt for cash-back credit cards. If you are worried about going overboard with credit cards, switch to debit cards. These not only kill the options to spend your money but also restrict spending to money that you have.

Tell it to others

Cut corners

If you forgo a coffee or a movie on a week-end you will not immediately become rich, but you will save some money. Think of cooking at home on week-end or carry tiffin to work. This will surely save a good amount of money. Car-pooling and share-a-cab can be considered if you are not gung-ho about taking public transport. The savings may not start trickling in from the first month itself but over a period, you will take charge of the 'axe-your-spend' campaign. It is not that you should not treat yourself. There will be times when you indulge, but you must keep a check on how much to spend on such occasions.

Add some fun to it

Saving may be too boring an activity. But add a twist to it and you will be home. How is the idea of not spending a $10, if you get any? All such $10 notes you come across can be kept in your good old piggy bank and can be deposited into your bank account. There is a high chance that you will save a good amount of money in addition to the money saved using tips mentioned above. You may also decide a 'no movie or no eating out day' if the date is a number divisible by three. So, in a month of 30 days, you cannot eat out or go to movie on 10 days. You save again - if one of these days fall on week-end then there are real savings.

This may sound weird. But if peer pressure makes you do many things, why it will not make you save? Tell someone that you are saving money- be your parents, your best friend or your gym buddy. Or just put up a 'saving-board' in your room and keep updating how much money you have put in your saving account. Your saving board and your buddy will keep reminding you about your saving plans. Identify someone who is good at saving - your friend or a sibling. Discuss your saving plan with her. She can also give you some tips. You will also get some inspiration to save more. Last and the most important, decide to treat yourself if you exceed your yearly saving goal by 20 percent. On the way to your 'Saving Rs 1 lakh' goal, you will have your monthly targets. Every time you exceed them by more than 20 percent, treat yourself in a small way - your favourite ice-cream. This will keep the morale high and you will surely exceed your goal by a wide margin. alented, imaginative and gifted individuals are getting younger and younger every day and are found in so many different areas such as science, invention, writing, and business entrepreneurship, just to name a few. However, an innately talented genius like Arnav Koppala, who aspires to be a particle physicist is not an easy find. Arnav fits so many of these magnificent categories of achievement and is continually adding new ones every day. At the age of 11 , Arnav published his first book of his current three-volume Pentagon Springs series, Pentagon Springs(2016), followed by Breaking Boundaries(2017), and The Journey (2018). Philanthropy showed itself in Arnav's heart as he donated the proceeds from the sale of his first book, SEPTEMBER+ OCTOBER

Arnav Koppala has received national and regional level recognition and appreciation for being named as the youngest 11 year old author. He has received numerous invites and participated in many high-profile interviews on television, radio, and the Internet. He has stated in his interviews, that he likes to be inspired by his imagination, and loves making the characters in his book come to life, so that he can live vicariously through his characters and their experiences. Arnav loves public speaking and sharing his interesting ideas and beliefs with his audiences is something he is very passionate about. He is a confident, natural and interestingly animated speaker whether on camera or in front of a huge audience. He was a noted speaker at TEDx events and inspired his audiences with his wide knowledge of TED's m a i n t o p i c s: Te c h n o l o g y , Entertainment, and Design. His recent TEDx speaking engage ment and Talk on the topic, Growth Mindset, adding new definition to ICE was shared on social media by Irving Mayor Rick Stopher as a brilliant and thought provoking speech by a young kid. Once again, Arnav stepped out of the normal run-of-the-mill, youth stereotype and became a CEO and founder of a new organization named Zbyte (www.zbyteinc.org) a name that steals the technical term BYTE from the a 8-bit word in computer language to create an abbreviation for Zero Bytes. ► ► ► ► TOPPICK4U

ON THE COVER Arnav started this company to create unique programs, potential rehab centers to help kids and adults to curb themselves of their addiction to technical devices. Zbyte is first ever and only organization in the world that has been created and designed specifically to make an impact on a global platform by creating and administering methods for preventing technology addiction. Pura Vida Pure Life is the right of every person. Arnav launched Zbyte Inc. organization before a 700+ audience with unanimous support from Mayors, StateReps, Business Executives, Chamber of Commerce and Educational Boards. Arnav is forever challenging himself to learn and expand his horizons. In addition to his passion for golf, music, and guitar, he also entered the field of acting at the age of 11 years. Interviewer: You are barely 13 years old and currently working with State Representative, Senators, the Mayors, and major company business executives as a CEO and founder of Zbyte Foundation. How does it feel? Arnav: It feels very responsible and I do not get nervous when I work with them because they are the elected people by us to work for the betterment of our community. I feel honored when they all are extending their hands to support our organization. This organization would not have been possible without the mentorship and support of State Representatives, Mayors, Corporate executives, Educational Boards and above all people who believe in me. Interviewer: Young leaders are not taken seriously. Did you face challenges when you were working with them? Arnav: On the contrary, I was received well, I have already established a level of credibility to the hard work and focus I have, so when I approached anyone I always received their support be it politicians, or corporate executives. Age is a factor that is in your mind not in your heart. SEPTEMBER+ OCTOBER

Excerpts From Arnav Koppala's Previous Interviews further?

What plans do you have

I am always a go-getter and try to reinvent what I do. My motto is Breaking Boundaries Anytime. Trust me when I say, "While working on my Book I was thinking about my TEDx Talk for my speaking engagement, and while working on the content for my Talk, I was thinking about my organization." So therefore, I am constantly looking at the big picture and trying to move forward in a positive way in many different directions. The goal of my every pursuit is the same. It is just the way to reach that goal that is constantly changing. You are an author, speaker, actor, and a founder of an organization, and above all a middle school student how do you balance? Don't you fall behind in your academics? My parents made it very clear to me initially before allowing me to pursue other areas of interest in life that there are two most important points that must be addressed before anything else, that is Behavior and Academics, exactly in that order. They will not make any compromises on either of those two areas. You can rest assured that everything I do can only fit into my schedule after first, I maintain my best behavior wherever I go and with whomever I work with, and second, I must score A+ in all my academic studies. In the 7th Grade, I got national recognition by Duke University for my SAT scores so I think I am good in academics but I am a super brat at home (grins sheepishly).

Interviewer: Any challenges on the way? Arnav: Plenty of challenges. I address it with one word that is passion and having the best team to work with. When you have the passion for the mission and vision of Zbyte organization there are no hurdles, you just change the course of action but the goal remains the same and trust me so far we heard only 'YES' regarding support to our organization. Interviewer: You are all over the place, author, actor, speaker, running organizations and studying, what are your next plans? Arnav: Trust me I have a huge bucket list and one thing I don't do is plan my next move ... I follow my heart and everything in my life happens organically.... I love what I do and do what I love. After my final sequel of Pentagon spring series, I plan to focus fulltime on Zbyte because that is where my passion lies for now.

When you first became an author you have inspired so many kids around you to write and work on their books, How does it feel? It makes me happy that kids are inspired by me. I definitely want to support everyone who loves to write. This is totally an out and out creative space that has no boundaries.

FE IS REALLY VERY SIMPLE.

WHAT WE GIVE OUT WE GET BACK.

By Meenakshi Sharma

"Attract What You Expect, Reflect What You Desire, Become What You Respect, Mirror What You Admire". A quote that I always keep in my mind when I am having a rough day. I am getting what I am seeking. The universe totally supports us in every thought we choose to think and believe including our hopes and doubts. Every thought we think is creating our present and future. I clearly remember the time when I wondered why things were not working and I was witnessing difficult and low times. I was confused and I had no clue of what I was going to do. We humans have tendency to get stuck in past and forget how we can change our sufferings into blessings. We can turn it around towards the other way. We have all the power to change and this change starts from you. We always ignore that we create the situations and then we give away the power by blaming the circumstances for our frustration. Our subconscious mind accepts whatever we choose to believe. What you choose to think about yourself and about life becomes true for you. So, if we are focusing on positive situations, positive habits and positive life experiences then you will not draw as much negative in your life. our body will be SEPTEMBER+ OCTOBER

healthier and more productive. We will get attracted to your own tribe. "Be the change you want to see in the world" We have all the power to change and this change starts from you. Be the person you want to attract in your life. Many times, we want to attract certain people and situations in our life however our personality and our habits are not attracting that. Be what you desire to have. Anytime I see how people have become successful and how they are influencing many lives, I study them, I study their books and their biography. I research them that how they are able to influence mass of people in a positive way and I try to develop those traits which will make me a better person and be able to give back like them. That is how we become what we respect. "Life is a mirror and will reflect back to the thinker what he thinks into it." If we look at our reflection in the water, we see the outer surface of

us, looking back at you. But if you put your hand through the refection, you can see what lies beneath. This is a great time to reflect back on what transpired for the past few months or years of our life. What happened to the goals or resolutions? Did we achieve them? It is always good to look back and develop the skills and traits which we are lacking in achieving our goals. If someone tells it cannot be done, It is more reflection of their limitations, not us. Life is a constant learning and there is always room for improvement. The Wheel of life is always moving and it is on us how we take it. I am working on being a better person, and that includes my body, mind and soul. For whatever reason, the body fights back. So, the reflection that I see right now, is showing me who I was. I am reflecting back to it, who I want to be.

Be yourself and YES we can!!! ►►►►

NEW GROWTH SPROUTS IN REAL ESTATE INVESTMENT

New growth sprouts along both sides of U.S. Highway 380 in northern Collin County, along the Sam Rayburn Tollway and within the gap between Interstate 35E and l-35W in Denton County. These outer reaches of Dallas Fort Worth are booming - the 2013 population estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau prove it. Frisco and McKinney join five other Texas cities in the Census Bureau's list of the 15 fastest-growing cities of 50,000 or more. Frisco ranks second, trailing only San Marcos, which also led the list in 2012. The Texas cities on the fastest-growing 11st aren't Just booming suburbs, either. True, they have their share of outbound commuters every morning, but they serve as significant job centers on their own, said Dr. Lloyd Potter, Texas' state demographer. "I can tell you that when I'm driving in to Austin on many mornings It certainly feels there are a lot of people coming from San Marcos," Potter said. "But people from San Marcos are mostly working in and around San Marcos. They aren't dependent on working in Austin or San Antonio." T hat's true of Cedar Park and Georgetown In WIiiiamson County, north of Austin, as well, he said. "What you're seeing is all the growth of the

SEPTEMBER+ OCTOBER

high-tech industry and associated businesses in that area," Potter said. "It's driving a lot of the growth in Williamson County." Six of the seven Texas cities on the fast-growing list are near enough to a big city for commuting. Then there's Odessa, the West Texas city of about 110,000 which, with neighboring Midland, has seen a rush of growth thanks to the Permian Basin oll and gas fields. "There's a lot of frocking-related growth there," Potter said, referring to techniques used to free oil and gas from fields once considered unproductive. In Dallas-Fort Worth, the fastest-growing cities tend to be smaller, though none are quite as small as Dish, the Denton County town that changed Its name from Clark some years back after reaching a marketing agreement with Dish Network. In a repeat appearance as the fastest-growing city in the region, Dish's population soared 16 percent from July 2012 to July 2013 - from 262 to 304, the census data showed. Since the 201O census, when Dish was home to 201 people, the population has increased 51.2 percent. Prosper holds down second place in regional growth, up from abouf 9,500 in 2010to almost 13,000 in 2013, a growth rate of 37.4 percent, followed by Trophy Club, Melissa and Fate, with around 10,000 residents or fewer. Texas' largest cities don't add population at nearly the same rates as these fastest-growing mid-size cities, none larger than 150,000 people, according to census figures. But in Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio and Austin, the raw numbers are pretty impressive, up by about 15,000 to 35,000 people from July 1, 2012 to July 1, 2013. Houston, at almost 2.2 million people the biggest of the bunch, added the most - 35,202 -

second only to much larger New York City and more than Los Angeles, home to almost 4 million people. In the smaller cities - Frisco and McKinney, for example much of the growth comes from migration from other states and other parts of Texas, Potter said. In the large cities, the biggest driver of growth is "natural Increase," the number of births minus the number of deaths. "One of the things everyone tends to believe by default Is growth Is being exclusively driven by migration," he said. "But in the big cities - Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, a larger percentage is being driven by natural increase. "It's the suburban areas where most is driven by migration." Frisco is a prime example. Last year, the city added roughly 2,300 homes, Mayor Maher Maso said. This year, it will add 2,000 more. "We're probably about 55 percent developed, so we have a way to go. We're around 140,000 people now," he said. "We're going through a comprehensive plan, and the [potential] population numbers are starting to inch up to 300,000, maybe 350,000. That could be decades away - Celina had 6,744 residents in the 2013 census estimates - but Frisco's rapid growth continues. "We're about halfway" to build out, Maso said, "but it's going to happen quickly. Twelve to 20 years is probably a good projection, depending on how sustainable that rate of growth stays. "If wedidn't have a great master plan, it would be a mess," he said. "But this isn't an overnight thing. It's been this way for 1O or 12 years." When Maso joined the City Council In 2000, Frisco had about 30,000 residents, he said. When voters re-elected him a few years later, the population had doubled.

DFW, TX & ONLINE • ·

ENROLL TODAY'!

After educating himself in the US, and working for fortune 500 companies as a professional for many years, Robin Pandey, one day in 2009 transformed into Moksha Mukti, by serendipity or by the grace of God. Since the day of transformation or enlightenment Moksha Mukti instantly ceased eating meat and drinking alcohol, this phenomenon occured in a flash halted his ethereal quest. This revelation cleaned out his old conditioned notions and brought him to his natural functioning; the divine entity he was investigating was already living and breathing inside of his organs; it is not something that revealed from outside source, but internally within. Since 2009 Moksha Mukti started to teach what had revealed to him, and now he has thousands of followers and students who learn from his revelations as wisdom or teachings. He has written four books, and one three already published and fourth about to be released soon. Currently, he teaches Moksha Mukti Enlightenment Meditation Lessons.

There are hundreds of Meditation Lessons are available. Moksha Mukti Enlightenment meditation is an original that revealed to Moksha Mukti. This is a direct method that is simple, efficient and effective. Although, it is simple it requires some time and teachings. Therefore, Moksha Mukti offers this lessons to anyone who is interested. You don't have to give up your family or job to learn this meditation, however, it requires a minimum commitment for you to fully grasp and utilize it. During meditation, over 90% people sleep instead of mediate. Moksha Mukti Enlightenment Meditation lessons do not let people fall asleep during meditation and it is scientific method of verifying and validating each experience within. Moksha Mukti speaks the truth, but it is not true to you unless, you verify and validate in your own experiencing field. So, in this meditation, there are a lot of interaction between students and the teacher to actually, get down and dirty, if I may use that phrase to experience, and recognize. It requires for you to pay attention to yourself, but this phrase has been cliche, and humans do not know what it truly means, and in Moksha Mukti Enlightenment Meditation lessons, Moksha Mukti teaches you to really pay attention. He guides you pay attention at the right places, so that you may get the glimpses of Enlightenment. Often people ask do I get enlightened by enrolling at the Moksha Mukti Enlightenment Meditation Lessons? Yes, there is a possibility, but more probability to get glimpses of Enlightenment. Are there benefits of taking Moksha Mukti Enlightenment Meditation lessons? Many people who reported by listening in and participating in General Open to public Moksha Mukti Enlightenment Meditation Lessons that happens once a month in or around full moon said they were healed, were peaceful, happy, calm, relaxed as well as their wish came true etc.

Moksha Mukti's books are available on Amazon:

I was neither born lucky nor born genius, nor born talented. When I peep behind the shut doors of the past, immense complacency overwhelms me, marveling at my own resurrection to what I am today. I was born in a small, obscure town of India. Of the few memories I can conjure, I recall the wide drains bordering the narrow brick lanes, the rowdy railway station, the hustle bustle of a typical Indian grain market, the squealing hawkers and the jubilant temple bells. My life was to follow the same suit had my dad not decided to migrate to Chandigarh (an urban city of India) in pursuit of an alternative business. The imminent target after that was to get me into a good school. My mother enrolled me into one of the leading schools of Chandigarh-Sacred Heart Convent school. While the school boasted of it's highly polished and multi faceted students, the admission criteria was grossly formidable. As I raced through my 2 hour admission exam, my mother's heart raced and pounded with each passing tick of the clock. I exited the hall in oblivion of the fact that what I penned inside was not an exam but my destiny. To everyone's surprise I was taken in the school- the most coveted and celebrated school of Chandigarh. Like I said I was 'not born lucky'- 'my mom' made me one. As I staggered into the relatively alien turf, I realized it was rather an opening of 'Pandora's box of troubles'. Being a convent school, it was mandated that each student converse in English. Hailing from a small Indian town, my base language was Hindi. While the weighty English words poured out of my peer's mouths glibly I struggled to put together the same hostile words to form coherent sentences. I would be too shy to raise my hand to answer a question, fearing the mockery my ugly stutter would

result in. Whenever I was asked a question, I stood frozen, humiliated and drained out of life. Our school conducted monthly parent teacher meetings to evaluate student's performance and give necessary feedback to parents. I so dreaded this demon that resurfaced every month. My palms would drench in sweat, and fingers wrestle nervously as my mother fidgeted on her seat uncomfortably, bruised by an interminable tirade of complaints from my teacher. While other mothers walked out smug and exhilarated, my mother walked out low head, her hopes thwarted. Brimmed with guilt and remorse I finally decided to rather face my fears. The mirror became my best friend as we spent hours together talking and rehearsing in English. I would deliberately broach controversial discussions with my friends to challenge my English proficiency. I started reading vocabulary books, newspapers, editorials and rummaged the dictionary for new words. I would jot them down and review them rhythmically until I became comfortable with their usage. Gradually, I gained a command on English and along with that came a better understanding of my academic subjects and that of the classroom sessions. I still remember the massive leap I made in my scores startling the teachers as well as the toppers of my class. All it took was a focus reinforced by the desire to excel. Like I said I was not born genius, I found in me one. My initial success in academics triggered success in other domains as well. My earnest efforts and avid interest helped me refine my literary and oratory skills. I participated and excelled in several events like press conference, extempore and debates. I even contributed articles for the famous 'Hindustan Times', an achievement I cherish till date. In recognition of my supreme communication skills I was appointed the 'Marketing committee head' in college. On similar grounds, working in Infosys on a cross-cultural, lndo-Chinese project I was given the task of mediating any conflicts arising due to cultural disparities. My persistence and hard work helped me not only surmount my initial obstacles but also channelize them in the right direction to unleash the talent in me.

Like I said I was not born talented, I chose to be one.

Behind every success, lies a motivation and my motivation was and is, my mother who exemplifies tremendous strength of character, worth emulating. Also insults can do to you what laurels can't. The humiliation I faced at the hands of my teachers and peers ignited in me the desire to excel in every domain I floundered in. I believe that criticism, if taken in a positive stride can actually help us transform our weaknesses to strengths. Success like learning is a cumulative process, one success laying the foundation of yet another and for me my first success was the motivation for each success that followed thereafter, ►►►►

TRAVEL

THE QUICKEST WAYS TO TELL WHETHER YOUR HOTEL ROOM HAS BED BUGS It was always sweet when mom used to say stuff like, "Sleep tight, don1 let the bed bugs bite." Like you really had a choice in the matter. Nobody In the history of beds or bugs has ever actually wanted those pesky little bloodsuckers chowing away on their skin all night. But, inevitably, it can happen.

In case you aren't an aspiring Gil Grissom, bed bugs are the common name for Cimex Iectularius, a flat, louse-like insect that lives off the blood of other animals. Because they're so dark, t h e y c a n be h a r d to s p o t , especially when hiding under furniture or in dark corners of your hotel room or hostel bunk. And while they don't transmit any diseases, they can leave nasty, itchy bites that are at best highly uncomfortable, and at worst leave you boiling all your clothes as soon as you get home. Even nice hotels can catch a case of bed bugs, so it can pay to turn on your cellphone flashlight and have a look around as soon as you get to your room. We talked to some folks at Rentokil, who kill bugs for a living, and they told us where to look to find the critters before they find you. So, what should you scan for in your room? Saying, "I'm looking for bed bugs" is all well and good, but do you even know what you're looking for? Small, crawling insects roughly the size of apple seeds are t h e d e a d g i v e a w a y, b u t sometimes you can have bed bugs without actually seeing them. Juvenile bed bugs shed their outer skins five or six times, so look for what might be discarded insect skin in the areas we outline below. Also, small blood smears don't mean somebody went all Very Bad Things in your room right before you got there. It could mean bed bugs' messy eating. You can also look for tiny black smudges that denote bed bug

excretion (kinda like insect skid marks) or t i n y white eggs, generally about l mm in length. Where else to look? .... The mattress and bed frame.: The most obvious spot to look for bed bugs is in the mattress, but spotting them is a little more involved than just picking the mattress up and looking for dark spots. Bed bugs tend to hide in the joints of the frame and along the slats. Sofas and throw pillows.: Quite often, you'll find them in other soft seats but NOT in the bed. Take a look along the seams, inside the slip cover, and along the zippers of any decorative pillow or sofa cushion. Closets and floorboards.: Bed bugs don't even need soft, cushy spaces to find a home. They can be hiding in your closet, which can ultimately lead to that unfortunate clothes-boiling we mentioned earlier to try and get them killed. Check the spots where floor boards or floor molding meet the wall. Night stands.: Much like with the rest of the furniture, look at the drawer seals and corners of the nightstand. Also check inside lampshades or the spots where the lamp makes contact with the nightstand. Same goes for picture frames, alarm clocks, or any other bedside decor. Luggage and luggage stands.: Take a look at the webbing on the f o l d-o u t l u g g a g e s t a n d , especially where it wraps around the frame. And just to be safe, never, EVER put your luggage on the bed itself. Those bugs will jump right in and might never leave.

HOROSCOPE

HOROSCOPE SEPTEMBER-OCTOBER (2018) I I I

II

Capricorn should be alert, Fortune may show you the adverse side. It's surely the right time to take a preventive medical checkup. Capricorn should remember that everything in your life may change by 180 degrees in a second, you will reveal an unpleasant secret. But the horoscope does not want to scare you. Big changes are in sight.

AQUARIUS The ability of all people born in this sign to "draw a map", according to which others can easily find the right path and solve many seemingly hopeless situations. The year has both sides, the dark one and the sunny one. You being able to synthesize better and more useful units.

We believe in making our customer beautiful with our personal care and using environment friendly products. From personal care to special occasion like Wedding, we are here to help you look the best.

People born in Pisces, will focus on establishing new relations and strengthening existing friendships. Moreover, the vitality curve of your chart is also noticeably high. Enlightenment often comes suddenly, but it is certain that your life will not be the same as before. You will get a special insight into all important and complicated matters.

,, Aries, reaching and testing your limits of your own mental and physical endurance and capabilities. However, there is also the danger of a severe depression or failure that may be helpful like "a light rain in the floods". People born in Aries will have to cope with sharp criticism. Day by day and week by week, Aries will gain self confidence and train the ability to find inner sources of energy. Simplification, competition and building of bridges. Taurus should show more effort to make things easier, rather than desperately trying to double the capacity. You will strive to bring people together to dampen conflicts and to understand the feelings of others.

OGEMINI

The taste of Gemini will be outstanding. Also your aesthetic feeling may reach the absolute peak. The horoscope states that pink colour will suit Gemini and that Gemini may also feel a great need for love and tenderness. Gemini people enjoyed above all by fearless people born in Gemini, who seek truly exciting experiences, a bold raft in the river full of piranha may only be the humble beginning.

CANCER

A period full of your biting remarks is very close. People born in Cancer will show that they regard own solution as a "perfect invention", Instead of feeling like lost in an empty desert, expect (literally) the power of the right hook from Muhammad Ali. Cancer should not be modest. In everyday life be demanding and in everything life has to offer.

LEO

Perfect appearance and superb performance could this time serve as a complete synonym for this zodiac sign. It is sure that Leo will favour energy, assertiveness and the forward movement. Human relations are fragile and therefore it is not wise to treat them carelessly.

VIRGO

You appreciate helping others, loving justice, admiring fair play or being precise at work. But September 2018 may question all of that. Virgo is likely to feel and realize the varying amount of energy you emit, and in turn, you get from the closest relationships is not equal or adequate. Everything may seem to be a little "sluggish" now, whether you want it or not.

LIBRA

Libra people are heading exactly in the opposite direction with their strictly optimistic boat. Libra shake head on how many people around are completely foolish about the correct estimate of the ability to plan and solve problems. Horoscope shows that an important center of energy will be located in your head, in form of concentrated mind.

SCORPIO

This is the right time to stretch your wings and start to fly into the world. There comes a time when ii is more important how you feel and experience things, rather than if everything seems to be fine according to some abstract and logical plan.

Sagittarius will start to have very "calculating" mind, what will allow you to outwit some old rival. The horoscope suggests, don't be shy and show others that you are self-confident person with sharp elbows. You should show more respect to common rules and order.

A page dedicated to ordinary people of our community... yes ordinary, but with that Xtra ordinary talent, achievement and that inspiring Xfactor!! My first interview in these series is with a woman who true to her Company's tag line gives us India here in the US, like nobody does. A woman who started at the grass root level as a cashier and in less than a decade has risen to become the Franchise and Marketing Director of her Company. SHAMA RAJANI, the hidden face behind the brand India Bazaar. Ms. Rajani is originally from Hyderabad in Southern India and moved to the United States nearly eight years ago. She currently resides in Plano, TX with her loving husband who according to her is no less than a child . She holds 2 Bachelor degrees from India, one in Commerce and the other in Education. Her thirst for knowledge led her to obtain her Masters in Education from SMU, Dallas TX whilst pursuing her full time job. Her family also consists of her father whom she considers her guiding force and her two siblings. Quite contrary to the saying that behind every successful man there is a woman, she proudly proclaims that her father is her support pillar. According to her, it doesn't matter what job SEPTEMBER+ OCTOBER

you're doing, having someone believe in you can make all the difference between success and failure. Her hobbies include reading and travelling along with exploring new avenues. Because she has been with the Company from the time they were two stores old, and served from the front desk all the way to the executive table, she is able to relate with her employees, no matter what their position. Getting to where she is today wasn't an easy feat, but Shama, proved with hard work and dedication that no goal is out of reach as long as you're willing to work towards it consistently. As she has grown with the organization, or better still in her words, as the organization grown with her, she has transitioned from building a performance brand to building a performance culture. She inspires and motivates others to be the best they can be. One of the biggest traits that has gotten her to where she is today is having the kind of passion and drive that is contagious with

other employees and helps them see the business as their own. She is proud of her journey that started off more than six years ago and has now grown into displaying multi-folds of her leadership capabilities including but not limited to opening different locations of India Bazaar and marketing for overall brand existence of Rajula's Kitchen, Grain Market etc. Together with the owners, Shama, has the experience from opening a location, all the way to managing all aspects of it. She was awarded the Employee of the Year in 2014 and Executive of the Year award in 2017. She thinks of herself as a Go-Getter, a person who doesn't believe in giving up. She believes in making impossible possible for its worth. She tries to achieve excellence in everything she does, as life is a survival of fittest and she means to be fit for a long time! To quote her, "In a male dominated society, women have a really stronger role to play and I leverage on my strength that no one can be 'ME'. Shama Rajani is a true example that there's opportunity everywhere-even at the bottom of the t o t e m p o l e& r e c o g n i z i n g t h o s e opportunities and not being afraid to work hard and take on unfamiliar duties can lead to amazing things!! ►►►►
