Wellington-born Shallcrass has a background in graphic design and illustration. She has participated in a number of group shows, this is her third solo exhibition. Laura says of her latest work:

“I am interested in instinct, need vs want and the cost of survival. I'm trying to reconcile my desire to do right by the planet and my fellow human beings with my love of pretty things. I paint animals because I feel they can portray human traits and emotions with more purity than figure. I've used pattern to speak of the past, mine personally as well as a collective past, layers of stories evolving over time, lessons learned and in some cases forgotten, or lost in translation...�
