It sounds incredible, but in 1646, while the people of Šibenik feared the attack of the Ottoman army, they built the St. John and Barone fortresses in just two months! Later on, they added extensions to them, and St. John's fortress was originally much smaller than the current star-shaped fortress. Renovations on it are expected to start soon.
