Free swimming offered Take advantage of the Saturday free winter swim session at Hamilton Aquatic Center from Jan. 18 through Feb. 8 in the heated pool. A session will also be held from Feb. 22 through March 15 on Saturdays at Mesquite Groves and Hamilton Aquatic Center. The sessions will be taught by water safety instructor candidates. Lap swimming offered in the morning and night Lap swimmers have the opportunity to get their swim in either in the morning or at night. The morning lap swimming is offered from 5 to 7:30 a.m. at Hamilton Aquatic Center, 3838 S. Arizona Ave., Monday through Thursday. Evening lap swimming is offered from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday at Mesquite Groves Aquatic Center, 5901 S. Hillcrest Dr. Admission is $2, regardless of age. Punch passes are offered to save swimmers 5 to 30% each visit, as well as an annual pass for only $200, which is valid at both locations.

Red Cross Lifeguarding course Do you want to learn the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies? The contents for the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course and activities prepare participants to recognize and respond quickly and

effectively to emergencies and prevent drownings and injuries. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a certiďŹ cate for lifeguarding, ďŹ rst aid, CPR AED, which is valid for two years. Prerequisites include swimming 300 yards continuously; demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing; tread water for 2 minutes using legs only; complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds and must be 15 years old by the last day of the class. The 30-hour course is $120 for residents and $150 for nonresidents.

Red Cross water safety instructor course

Swim hours

The American Red Cross water safety instructor course trains instructor candidates to teach water safety, including the basic water rescue courses, six levels of the progressive learn to swim program and parent and child aquatics. The course also includes ďŹ ve hours of the F.I.T. course and eight hours of instructor candidate practical teaching time. Prerequisites include demonstrating proďŹ ciency in the front crawl freestyle stroke, back crawl backstroke, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, sidestroke and buttery, maintain position on back for 1 minute in deep

Hamilton and Mesquite Groves aquatic centers reopen for the season on Sat., March 8. Residents have the opportunity to receive a 15% discount on Family Season Pass for a family of four when they purchase a pass from Sat., March 8 through Sun., March 16. For $95, the pass will provide admission to all six aquatic centers March through November. The passes, which are available for Chandler residents only, can be purchased by visiting Hamilton or Mesquite Aquatic Centers during their operational hours March 8 through March 16 only. The regular price for a family of four is

$112 plus $15 for each additional member.

Online Citizen Budget Survey The Aquatics Division staff is asking for feedback on its Online Citizen Budget Survey, which can be found at chandleraz. gov/surveys. The staff reads each and every customer satisfaction survey to provide the community with the best service possible. In order to keep aquatics programs funded and the community’s voice heard, staff asks that you please ďŹ ll out the survey. The Fiscal Year 2014-2015 Citizen Budget Survey will be available until Fri., Jan. 24. The survey consists of several general questions, the ratings of several programs within each of the ďŹ ve priority goals and the rating of various CIP projects. It also gives citizens the opportunity to make additional comments or to ask questions about the FY 2014-2015 budget process. The Budget Division hopes to share the results of the survey with the major, city council, city manager and directors in early February.
