The key to every show is the enthusiasm and commitment by a determined team and their love for music as pictured on the smiles of this year’s committee. 20 years, 230 performers, 60 sell out shows and over $150,000 donated to the schools and preschools of the Upper Clutha is an achievement that any community will be proud of owning. The focus for Stars In Your Eyes 2012 is in memory of and celebrating

a huge 20 years of locals strutting their stuff and singing their hearts out for all to enjoy and have a good ole laugh too. Artists are skillfully guided and nurtured by Show Director Kate Paterson Ross. The true secret behind every show is keeping secrets and those ‘secrets’ are part of the reason the audience returns.

A varied and eventful week, here is a snapshot of events attended, - can you help us with the following crimes?

Last Thursday night persons walked over a silver Subaru Legacy vehicle damaging the roof, it was parked out side the Cardrona ski field's office on Dunmore Street.

Two pedal cycles have been stolen from the rear of the Water Bar, thieves are more than willing to take your pedal cycle. A chain to a solid object is worth its weight in gold.

A male was arrested over the weekend for jumping out of a van and trying to start a fight with passers by. The offender has been charged with disorderly behaviour.

Two people were arrested for breaching the liquor ban last Saturday night.

One a male who was a passenger in a vehicle located at the lake front was drinking bourbon; a reminder that even if you are in a moving vehicle if you are drinking alcohol within the liquor ban zone you are committing an offence.

A silver Toyota van was stolen from outside Tangos Cafe on Saturday night and was located two days later on Dungarvon Street. It seems the offenders used the vehicle as transport home. Did anyone see the driver of this vehicle?

Last Saturday, money and an IPod were taken from Kahu Youth. Police are speaking with two male suspects in relation to the matter.

Saturday evening, a male was arrested after arguing and fighting with patrons at a private function held at a bar, when located by Police he was found to be in possession of cannabis.

Overnight on Saturday, offenders kicked in the rear tail gate of a silver Mazda Tribute parked outside the National Bank.

Sunday a morning a male was arrested for possession of cannabis.

Unfortunately for him he was seen by an officer scooping cannabis leaf off a table when the officer was doing a bar check.

On Sunday night, the occupants of a house in Skinner Crescent, Hawea heard someone trying the rear door handle. When they went outside to investigate a person could be heard jumping the fence. This is the second suspicious incident reported in Lake Hawea in recent weeks. I urge people to lock your doors and secure your property as best as you can and if you hear a person trying to enter your property dial 111.

Offenders smashed a window to gain entry to a caravan on Alison Avenue.

Nothing was taken however it seems they played cards whilst in the caravan.

Offender/s kicked in the front door of a Scaife Place address, nothing appears to have been stolen but it is possible they may have slept in the house.

Last Monday a Toyota Carib parked at the Dungarvon Street car park was entered and prescription medicine stolen from the glove box.

When questioned as to how useful a single pair of boots would be to an eight-legged creature neither spider could offer a convincing explanation.

Experts believe that the spiders may not actually have been planning to wear the boots; rather that they were looking to set up a new home within the footwear. Many spiders do prefer to live in dark places and have been found hiding in shoes on other occasions.

If you find a spider hiding in your shoe, you could try turning the shoe upside down and letting the spider loose. However, if you’d rather not give pests free rein of your property, call in the experts!
