As a not-for-profit organisation Plunket urgently need more help and support to raise valued funds to help the local sub branch continue to provide a range of services in the Upper Clutha community. The Plunket rooms are available all week and welcome new coffee groups and faces at the education sessions. On offer is a range of courses and speakers throughout the year. Come in and see us and keep up to date with what’s on in the Plunket rooms.

1. On the 19th of February police were called to a traffic crash where a motorcyclist took the wrong line on a right turn in Makarora, and left the road and hit a deer fence. The rider was injured yet we are happy to report he survived the crash. 2. Last Friday a male was arrested for deliberately setting off a fire alarm. He was charged with the offence and faces a court appearance and surprise, surprise alcohol was a factor. 3. Also, last Friday, officers arrested a male for damaging an irrigation system on Meadowstone Drive. The 28 year old faces a court appearance for his troubles. If only the irrigation system would encourage him to "grow" up. 4. Last Saturday, at around 3pm, Search and Rescue personnel were deployed to the Niger stream where a canyoner had injured his lower back. He was flown to the Wanaka Medical Centre for treatment. 5. A disgruntled, alcohol fuelled, 60 year old female, fell out with her husband and walked off along State Highway 6 on Saturday night. This was after refusing to be taken home by police on numerous occasions. She spent the night under a bush in Albert Town before being picked up by her husband in the morning. 6. On Saturday a male was processed for drink driving after police came across his car straddling a fence post at the junction between Muir Road and Cemetery Road in Hawea. The male driver blew almost 3 times the legal limit and he faces a court appearance. 7. We have also had complaints of theft of fruit from fruit trees on private property at Lakeside Road. School children have been caught taking the fruit without permission. This is theft and needs to stop. 8. On March the 1st QLDC are implementing a number of speed zone changes in the greater Wanaka area. The QLDC have been advertising the changes over various media sources. We will have police patrols out in some of these areas. Our aim initially will be to educate people on the changes, but anyone driving at excessively high speeds will be ticketed. Terry The Tarantula and Ruby The Red Back were apprehended for disorderly behaviour at the Wanaka Skate Park last week. The two spiders began arguing and then things turned nasty which resulted in them being dealt with by the local authorities. Spider fighting is actually considered a sport in some areas of the world. In the Philippines the fights are staged between female web weavers and a spider will kill a rival if the loser does not quickly flee or receive the aid of a human handler. Terry probably got off lightly. Although we’re known for our love of sporting pursuits in Wanaka, spider fighting probably isn’t something you’d like to see in your backyard. Why not let the experts deal with the spiders so that you can concentrate on more enjoyable pursuits. Cricket anyone?
