E.L. Crossley track team successful at SOSSA match The E.L.Crossley Cyclone placed third (1 point behind 2nd) overall at SOSSA (Southern Ontario Secondary School Association) Cross Country on Oct 25th at Burgoyne Woods. The team placed 2nd overall boys and 2nd overall girls. This is the best Crossley has done at SOSSA Cross Country in 20 years! All 6 of Crossley’s teams placed in the top 5 overall scores.

TO advance to OFSAA (Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations), a team must place in the top 2 teams or in the top 4 runners (not on a team) to advance. A team score consists of 4 runners who add up their final placements as a runner to be their overall team score. If 2 teams tie, then the 5th runner is used. Mossimo’s downs Port Colborne 6-1 The Mossimo’s Peewee Panthers continued their strong start to the season with a win against Port Colborne Team # 1. Braeden Prout put the Panthers on the scoreboard by netting a rebound off a shot from Dean Coates from Jeremy Pollard. Coates found the back of the net early in the 2nd frame with the help of Prout & Hayden Stewart. Nick Yioldassis beat the Port Colborne netminder with the assistance of Nick Chambers

& Prout, then Pollard picked up his own rebound to score from his knees with assists awarded to Coates & Chambers. Braeden Prout rounded out a hat trick game in the 3rd period by first tipping in Noah Wouthuis’ shot from the blue line and then landing a short-handed goal from Chambers & Wouthuis. Goalie Tristan Barnhart & blueliners, Ethan Guitard, Zach Baltrusiunas, Wouthuis & Stewart were solid in their zone in the 6-1 victory

individual runner. The Junior Girls placed 2nd to Westdale. Senior Boys placed 2nd to Sir Winston Churchill. Megan Rempel placed 2nd overall but 1st as an individual advancing to OFSAA. Megan’s Senior girls team placed 3rd overall, just missing it as a team. Crossley also had the Midget Boys place 3rd, Junior Boys placed 4th, and Midget Girls placed 5th. Free Gas Bantams have great start The Pelham Minor Hockey Association’s Bantam No Body Checking team, sponsored by Free Gas Company Ltd., has had a very successful start to their 2012-2013 season. This is the second season in which the PMHA has offered a No Body Checking division and it began with many of the same players as last season’s inaugural Peewee team, with some welcome additions. The team has come together quickly and is playing exciting and fast hockey. The Bantam NBC team plays in a league with three Grimsby teams, as well as a team from Beamsville and a team from Niagara on the Lake. NOTL is where the season

started on Oct. 9 with a spirited exhibition game which saw two evenly matched teams and a tight game that ended in a 5 to 4 loss. The next evening the official season began when the team hosted Grimsby #2 in a game where Pelham held the lead for the first two periods but which ultimately ended in a 5-5 tie. On Oct. 14 the team played a road game hosted by Grimsby # 3 which culminated in a disappointing 7-5 loss. The team rallied back the following Wednesday at home against Grimsby # 1 in another feisty match which had Pelham in the lead until the bitter final few minutes when the opposition

was able to take advantage of their power play to even it up at 2-2. After a week off with no ice the team next battled Beamsville at home on Oct. 24. Their determination was evident from the first few seconds of the game and their solid and consistent effort was unwavering. The game was never out of their control and resulted in a well earned and emotional 7-4 win. Thus far top offensive points goes to David Coyne, followed by Jeremy Colangelo, Graeme Ciccarelli, Ethan Keus, Ethan Ratcliffe, James Field and Rajvir Sohi, with equally notable offensive work by Josh

Oussoren, Sam Abbott-Tate and Chris Slobodzian. Top points on the blue line goes to Richie Pauls followed by Nicholas Song and Patrick Coupland, with equally focused defensive efforts from Christian Harford, Hannah Hennessy, Gillian Hennessy, and Willy Lalonde, And of course, the net minders, Braeden Chow and Daniel Van Alstine, have done a phenomenal job at keeping the team in the game at all times!. The team’s home games are every Wednesday evening at 8 pm at the Pelham Arena. If you are hungry for entertaining hockey during the NHL lock out, come out and cheer on your Bantam NBC team!
