As Seen On The

A new wave of rich, hand-crafted brews full of flavor, personality & creativity SNEAKY BLONDE • 7.1% ABV

The Sneaky Blonde is considered a traditional German farmhouse ale, with a golden color denoting it as a classic blonde ale. The brew received its “Sneaky” label due to its smooth flavor disguising a hearty 7.1% alcohol content. Considered the crossover choice for traditional domestic beer drinkers, this fresh and bright ale is currently the top selling beverage offered by GCB and accounts for more than half our monthly sales.

ROcKET RiDE • 7.6% ABV

Embracing the Independent Spirit of Texas Craft Beer

The Rocket Ride is a classic brown ale, with a roasted color and a softer palate flavor hinting of caramel, coffee and toasted nuts. Designed to appeal to the more adventurous craft beer drinker, its unobtrusive flavor profile also appeals to the cross-over consumer. The biggest challenge is educating the consumer that a darker colored beer does not equate to a “heavier” beer such as stouts and porters. The Rocket Ride clocks in at a bold 7.6% alcohol content.

GOBLiN HuNTER • 6.6% ABV

The Goblin Hunter is our third beer and by far the most mysterious. We call it a year-round Halloween Seasonal as it is our twist on an Octoberfest Lager, but an ale. This beer features five different malts and as proven very popular with the more sophisticated craft beer drinkers and home brewers who are constantly trying to figure out its style and guess its ingredients. It is full of flavor but surprisingly “lite” and refreshing.

T-Bone Tom’s Kitchen Is Open Late Night By Rhonda Meredith

Kemah Mardi Party

For more than 40 years, TBone Tom’s, located at 707 Highway 146 in Kemah, has served up hearty portions of home-style food, steaks entrees, seafood dishes, and world-class barbecue plates with a friendly, down home smile. The restaurant starts fresh every morning and begins serving at 11 a.m.

On Saturday, February 7, it’s time to celebrate Mardi Gras! The “Mardi Pardi” starts right after the Kemah Mardi Gras parade with musical performances by Zydeco ReEvolution from 1 to 5 p.m., and Luther and the Healers from 6 to 10 p.m.

But did you know that T-Bone Tom’s stays open really late, too? Their late-night menu begins at 10 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays, and 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

Valentine’s Day Celebrate Valentine’s Day with a Prime Rib dinner with a side of The Kelly McGuire Band. The musical entertainment is from 7 to 11 p.m.

The menu offerings will satisfy any late-night (or early-morning) craving. Typical lunch and dinner menu “starters” can complete a late night out perfectly. Choose an awesome dish from the “fried” food group (popcorn shrimp, pickles, cheese sticks, zucchini,

and mushrooms); or perhaps the Armadillo Eggs (barbecue brisket stuffed in a pickled jalapeño, battered and fried, served with a side of ranch dressing); or Tom’s Campfire (three skewers of marinated steak); and Tom’s Trio (two Armadillo Eggs, two pork ribs, and 4-ounce smoked sausage).

Fish Tacos • Po’Boys • Catfish • Shrimp • Oysters

CRAWFISH SEASON STARTS SOON! OB e Y B lcom

T-Bone Tom’s is known for their barbecue. In fact, the tasty fare garnered national attention in November 2009 when a certain platinum, spiky-haired chef came to town. Food Network's Diners Drive-ins and Dives host Guy Fieri was on hand to enjoy what the locals have savored for decades.

Other customer favorites include the Vegas Shrimp Cocktail, Shark Eggs, pulled pork quesadillas, smoked pork ribs, wings (hot, blazing hot, or chipotle), boudin balls, and calamari.

SPECIALS MON-FRI 11AM-4PM

In addition to the mouthwatering food, T-Bone Tom’s also has great happy hour specials. These specials are available from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The late night drink specials also begin at 5 p.m., but continue until closing on Mondays through Wednesdays.

281-488-CRAB (2722) 16580 El Camino Real, Clear Lake City 77062 (Interestion of El Camino Real & Ramada Dr. Behind Walgreens) Monday-Saturday 11am to 9pm; Closed Sunday | MarketSeafood.com

Adjacent to the main restaurant is an outside seating area under multiple palapas structures called “Tom’s Backyard.” It’s a perfect place to enjoy gatherings, drinks like the Painkiller (a tropical flavored adult beverage made with Cruzan dark rum), and live music. T-BONE TOM’S: Continued From Page 10 The Land Shark stage hosts live musical entertainment six nights a week year round. A few of the names scheduled this month are Crossroads, Sheila Marshall and Pirates & Poets with Jerry Diaz. T-Bone Tom’s originally opened as a neighborhood meat market in the late ’60s. It expanded into a full service restaurant in 1974. The early traditions set forth back then still carry on today. Menu items are still made from scratch and prepared fresh daily. The unique flavors from the dry seasoning and barbecue sauce are from original recipes. Their steaks are hand cut, and their chicken fried steaks are hand breaded. And neither is ever frozen. T-Bone Tom’s is one of the Bay Area’s treasures no doubt. Food, fun, and a festive atmosphere all describe what’s in store for all who visit T-Bone Tom’s. Head down to Kemah and look for the red roof and the ever present cow just south of the Kemah Bridge. For more information, visit www.tbonetoms.com.

MARKET SEAFOOD: Continued From Page 14 “Our goals are simple,” said Market Seafood’s owner Kenny Grundmann. “We serve high-quality, fresh seafood at value prices with fast and friendly service with a casual atmosphere.” The lunch specials are offered weekdays until 4 p.m. Enjoy the homemade flavorings of fried shrimp or catfish, crab bites, fish tacos, or chicken tenders served up in a basket and fries for just under $7. Or opt for the cup of some warm and comforting crab bisque, seafood gumbo, or red beans and rice, with a cool and crisp salad. It will take more than one visit to experience these specials. We suggest a bowl of their award-winning Market Seafood Shrimp and Crab Gumbo, or their catfish which was voted "The Best Catfish in the Bay Area." Other dishes on the expanded menu include coconut or crab-stuffed shrimp, crawfish tails, the Redfish Pontchartrain (topped with their very own Pontchartrain sauce), wild salmon, grilled Mahi Mahi, and oysters. Save room for dessert, and delight in the decadent tastes of either the Jack Daniels Chocolate Pecan Pie, the “Kool and Kreamy” Key Lime Pie, or the even harder to resist Homemade Bread Pudding with Bourbon Sauce. Remember that “Kids Eat Free” on Mondays through Wednesdays with each adult meal. (Some restrictions apply.)

THE SCENE

Be sure to bring along your favorite beer or wine because Market Seafood is a “Bring Your Own (Adult) Beverage” establishment. They also accommodate for carry-out orders, party trays, and whatever else you may have a need for. Just give them a call at 281-488-CRAB (2722). Market Seafood is open Mondays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The Houston Chronicle has said that Market Seafood is a “consistently good neighborhood gem." We would have to agree. By Kelley Dawson For the past 13 years, Maurine Howard’s enchanting mermaids have personified Yachty Gras; the Bay Area’s unique, nautical Mardi Gras parade. Each year, a different mermaid graces the event poster. In the tradition of Yachty Gras, Howard said her mermaids provoke positive emotions and appeal to family members of all ages. In fact, her infamous posters are highly sought after and collected by many folks. On occasion, the posters mysteriously disappear from local businesses. Each of Howard’s endearing mermaid paintings truly capture the mood and setting she wants expressed. Howard’s use of precise symbolism and luscious color show depth beyond the sea. The underwater paintings are as alluring as the sirens depicted in them. “Let me tell you how [the mermaids] got started,” said Howard. She told when she was appointed Executive Director of Yachty Gras in 2002, the committee was lacking branding. “We had no image, no logo,” Howard stated. She explained that the committee decided to go with mermaids and requested submissions from local artists, but none appealed to what the committee desired for their image. Howard expressed they were getting pressed for time, therefore, she started painting her first mermaids. “At the time I didn’t think they were good enough,” she revealed. But, she said once presented to the committee, they loved it. She added, “I’ve been doing it ever since.” Howard has a PhD in art education and shared she’s been doing art her entire life. According to Howard, her current mermaid paintings “take on a life of their own.” The original paintings are much larger than the poster versions. Howard said she creates her pieces with mixed medium of water color, acrylics and ink. “Whatever I find accomplishes a certain color. It’s all about the color,” she stated. She elaborated that each mermaid has its own color, identity, and even tail. “Each one is different. It starts as an image I’ve thought about for a while, and then I go to paper,” Howard said. “Though, I may not always know exactly until I start working with it,” she admitted. Howard also revealed that when painting the mermaids; “Once I put the eyes on, it’s almost like she looked at me.” She said, “The eyes really pop and almost come to life.” Howard recently painted a merman who now adorns the 2015 Yachty Gras poster. She explained he was a baby in a previous piece. To view more of Maurine Howard mermaid art and Yachty Gras events visit www.yachtygras.com.

Romantically attached, they continue to exchange letters through the boarding school and college years, where Andy goes on to excel at Yale and law school, while Melissa flunks out of a series of ‘good’ schools. While Andy is off at war Melissa marries, but her attachment to Andy remains strong, and she continues to keep in touch as he marries, becomes a successful attorney, gets involved in politics and, eventually, is elected to the U.S. Senate. Todaro/Crate earn LYC’s “Yachtsmen of the Year” Award The husband and wife team of Andrea Todaro and Jim Crate earned the award of “Yachtsman of the Year” at Lakewood Yacht Club’s annual Commodore’s Ball held l;ate last month in the club’s ballroom. The award is not given annually, but the nominee(s) are decided upon by the last three recipients who were Howard Hughes, Past Commodore John Broderick, and Bob Martin. This prestigious award is presented to a Lakewood member based upon cumulative outstanding accomplishments, community service, and representation of Lakewood Yacht Club (LYC) outside of the local area. Originating in 1974, the award was re-named in 2008 to the Ed Matthews Memorial Yachtsman of the Year Award in honor of Past Commodore Ed Matthews, a world renown racer, who was the epitome of a Lakewood member. In presenting the award this year, Martin related that Todaro and Crate have continued the traditions of yachting and service to LYC and to the yachting community. They have a history of sailing and racing, have been members in the Clear Lake Racing Association, US Sailing, and the Galveston Bay Cruising Association. At Lakewood, they have chaired and participated in numerous committees including Race, Sheds Piers and Harbor, Radio, Keels & Wheels and Communications. “Their contributions to our Harvest Moon Regatta have been outstanding. This team made the success of this regatta their full-time job, not only at Lakewood but at the finish line and awards ceremony in Port Aransas,” explained Martin. “Andrea and Jim exemplify the Rotarian motto of ‘Service Above Self’. When any job at Lakewood needed doing, they were there.”

THE SCENE: LOCAL LIVE MUSIC GUIDE THE SCENE MAGAZINE • PROVIDING THE BEST COVERAGE OF THE CLEAR LAKE/BAY AREA LIVE MUSIC SCENE

LOOSE NOTES: Continued from Page 40 We veered off the beat and squeezed into Chelsea’s when we heard Ryan Guidry was going to be playing. I first caught Ryan along with buddies Eric and Jon at the Clifton’s Music Festival and he’s going on strong still with the annual Discovery Green Fab 40 shows and several Baytown 4th of July shows opening for the like of the Marshall Tucker Band and Kansas – Not too shabby and yet to turn 40…. This was the first time Ryan’s played on this SCENE and hopefully, you’ll get to hear him again soon. Flickball 2015 – Which would mean Superbowl at T-Bone Tom’s for this year’s 3rd Annual Flickball championship. The competition was extremely tight this year and hotly contested with Andy Alonso taking home the trophy. I’m glad I didn’t play Flickball with these cats when I was a kid, they were clearly capable of taking other’s lunch money. Well done to the staff at T-Bone Tom’s for once again, putting together a super fine season – Cheers!

begins to tease. Be well and be healthy -- We’ll be out there with you, out on the SCENE!!!

It’s a Wrap – We were able relax after the hectic holidays, kick back, enjoy some splendid snow bird weather and take in some really fantastic live music with you, out and about on the SCENE in January. February should be a dandy as patio season approaches, the coats go back into the closets, and spring

For The Love Of Music: From Page 34 “There's just something about this song that hits me right in the gut every time we play it. It’s basically the other side of the coin coming from a man who lives, eats, and breathes music. It's an honor and a blessing to be up there under those lights and most people think that's all there is to it. But there's much Hardy & Co. more. The time on the road, the things you miss because you've got to play one more show; the strain. Hardy's songwriting really shines through on this tune, and you can tell that he has experienced every bit of what he's singing about. Above all though, I think this song is about the will to keep it up. Yeah, you get tired sometimes; you get frustrated; sometimes you want to give up; sometimes you feel all alone in that big room full of people. But when you get up there on stage with your brothers, all that goes away – just like it should.” “The Remedy” is a modern hymnal disguised as a rock song,” says Chris Hardy, founder and vocalist of Hardy & Co. “You don't have to be religious to understand or appreciate it. We all pray in different ways and to different deities. When we play this song on stage I feel more connected to God at that moment than I ever did at any church. Music is the universal language of prayer, and I'm on my knees in front of God, and everybody in the audience crying out for help, but as I sing it as loud as I can, I realize my prayers have already been answered. Moral of the song is that music is my blessing, my salvation, and my remedy for life problems. I'm very thankful for the blessings in my life, and this song reminds me to have a little more faith in myself, as well as in the unknown.”

around when they meet the right person,” said Dodd Michael Lede, vocalist and founder of The DML Cartel. “This song is an autobiographical account of what my life was like before I met my better half. She made everything complete and balanced. Although I've written a handful of songs for her now, this one is my musical favorites. Musically, I wanted to transport the listener to a dark carnival setting to try and obtain that visceral feel of free falling into the The DML Cartel unknown.” Lede says the recording turned out better than what he expected. “It definitely has a surreal vibe to it… A dark love story.” The DML Cartel is on Facebook. “So Damned Cool” by MYRNA SANDERS Myrna Sanders

says her favorite original Valentine song to sing is “So Damned Cool,” a song written for her husband when they were first dating. “It's a blues-rock shuffle,” she says, but explains that when they first dated, "he was always wearing his tool belt and building or fixing things all around my house, and it was sort of a turn-on because he could fix anything." Now that they're older, she says with a laugh, there just isn't enough time for him to build and fix things like he used to. Sanders has been performing professionally in the Houston and Galveston Bay areas as a solo acoustic musician, and with her band, The Myrna Sanders Band since 2003. She has released two albums “Riches to Rags” in 2004 and “Big Head Diva” in 2012. Her current lineup includes Lynn Raggio on lead guitar, Jason Padilla on drums, Laura Magers on keyboards, and Darrell Masingale on bass. They can be found nearly every weekend playing covers as well as Sander’s original music all around. Sander’s is writing new songs for her third album to be released late in 2015. Signature Drinks:

Valentine’s Day Drinks Sure To Inspire Railean Distilleries: “COSMO KISS” It takes love to make the Earth go around and to keep the cosmos in order, and the world in sync. Of course, a cocktail that makes you feel as one with your significant other is pretty darn sweet. First, muddle two raspberries and two blackberries in a tall glass rimmed with sugar. In a shaker, mix Railean Handcrafted American Vodka, Triple Sec (an orange-flavored liqueur made from the dried peels of bitter and sweet orange), fresh lemon juice, Rose infused syrup, and cranberry juice with ice. Then pour over muddled raspberries and blackberries, and fill glass with pink lemonade. Enjoy! Jackie's Brickhouse: "TEMPTATION" White Chocolate Raspberry Martini Razz it up with the ripe and luscious Svedka raspberry-flavored vodka. This playful infused liquor comes on strong as its essence is concentrated six times. It mixes well with the unique chocolate flavor of DeKuyper’s Créme De Cocoa White, a sweet-chocolate liqueur that is an essential ingredient to a rich, creamy cocktail. Go ahead and indulge! Jackie's Brickhouse: "STRAWBERRY STILETTO" The memories may fade, but everyone remembers a good pair of sexy stilettos. Even better is that this stiletto finds itself in a glass. So pucker up before you take a taste of DeKuyper’s Pucker Strawberry Schnapps liqueur, a sweet burst of strawberry flavor that is bright and deliciously tart. Blended with the premium all natural orange, mandarin, and citrus flavored Absolute Mandarin Vodka makes this drink a treat.

Jordan Tydings

“She Just Likes The Way My Guitar Sounds” by CHAD WARE “My favorite song to play is called ‘She Just Likes The Way My Guitar Sounds’” said Chad Ware. “I wrote it about my youngest daughter and how much she loves it when I play my guitar and how much she loves music.” Ware just recently recorded this song for his upcoming new album coming out this spring. Check out his website (www.chadwaremusic.com) for more information.

“Bullseye” by VANILLA SUGAR Not everyone enjoys Valentine’s Day… “Our favorite original song to perform would be Bullseye,” said Jessica Perry, one-fourth of the all female electronic/experimental rock band Vanilla Sugar. “We really get into the heavy sound that it has when we play it live. The lyrics are intense. It's about completely wiping someone that you hate from existence. Which I'm sure we can all relate to. This song gives everyone in the audience a chance to Vanilla release Sugar those pent up emotions through music.” Vanilla Sugar will be releasing a video for “Bullseye” later this year. Like them on Facebook at Vanilla Sugar Music.

“Spinach Dub” by JORDAN TYDINGS “Spinach Dub is an original I enjoy playing,” said Jordan Tydings, vocalist and founder of Tydings. “It's the stereotypical weed song from a reggae band, and it’s also our anthem to Houston and good times. It is awesome to hear the crowd singing the chorus back to us when the song is played live at shows because there's nowhere else I'd rather be, except maybe Colorado.” Tydings plays Valentine’s Day at Scout Bar with Metalachi. Take a look at other show dates on the Tydings page on Facebook.

"Sideshow King" and “The Remedy” by HARDY & CO. There are cases in which different band members have different favorite original songs to perform live. Chris Barnes, bass player at Hardy & Co. says his is "Sideshow King.” “It’s pretty deep, and definitely one that all of our friends that play music on a regular basis can relate to,” he says.

Featured Bartender: Continued From Page 49 Favorite thing about the Bay Area? I love the area I grew up in, but I definitely love that the Bay Area is far enough from home, but close enough at the same time. Sometimes it's best not to have a high school reunion everywhere you go! Best tip you ever got: Honestly? Several years ago, I had two teenagers at my bar. Little did I know they were going to leave me the best tip ever: $5 and a Dog Bone bar blade! I collect bar blades, so that had to be the best thing I've ever gotten as a tip. What do you love about Bartending? Well there's definitely many rea-

sons why I love what I do! For one, art is my heart so while bartending the study of mixology is something that comes naturally, and I thoroughly enjoy it. Being able to create unusual, refreshing and delicious drinks is like painting a blank canvas: The outcome is a surprise! Secondly, 80% of the people in my life today, I have met either at my bar or at a bar. Bartending gives you so many chances to meet so many different people and if you're a lucky one, some of those people become more than just customers in your heart. Who inspires you? That's a constant battle between my father and brother. I've never met another man who inspires me in many ways as my father has. He's the most selfless, caring, hardworking and patient man. As to my

brother, everything I know behind a bar, I can pretty much give him credit for. I've been a bartender at a bar while he was bartending with me and seeing how people look up to him and how customers loved him showed me so many things and ways to being the almost perfect bartender and person. I am forever grateful for both of them and for these reasons.

1661 Craft House: Continued From Page 51 For now, the important thing to keep in mind is the decision at hand. Which brew do you choose? And what will you order when you build your own menu? Will you opt for a burger, wings, pizza, nachos, or a combination thereof? Create a unique flavor with toppings and sauces.

Bob tells me that Burt Wills is scheduled to stop by soon. We’ll have to keep our ears open for that one. Up the road, I was curious what kind of crowd the folks at Jackie’s Brickhouse was able to pack on a Thursday night, and with Rat Ranch, it was a

I had heard Diamond Lou once before at open mic at the old Heads & Tails and was blown away with his 12-string version of The Rain Song back then. This evening, Lou (who shares his life on a sailboat with his wife, Rachel) brought along a Marshall MG-15 amp that had to be mic’d. I’ve heard the 50 watt versions of this amp before and Geoff Fish’es 2 watt Marshall once before but this was the first time I’d ever heard the MG-15 played live. It took a bit of tweaking getting the board dialed in but WOW was it SWEET!!! Old school setup and fantastic sound of old – Bring me back, please… The music was so good this month, where the bands collective arranged talent and simply let it fly, that I think I’m tempted to make a special effort to catch shows featuring special guests. You should too…

full house. Go figure…. Show after show, these guys bring along the sound to go with the songs that people need to hear – And it doesn’t matter if it’s a school night either. Up in the Lighthouse district, we stopped in to catch the open mic jam at Zone 504 with Mark Lum, Christian Weigand, Chris Piper and Yoshi trading strums and reinventing the classics with a crisp reggae sizzle. Mark Lum is an interesting singer with a gifted sense for what’s happening. I’m going to be curious when he starts writing songs about that new star in his life – You know it’ll be good…

This month, we caught up with some awesome Thursday night action starting down in Bacliff at Katie’s to catch The James Wilhite Band. Like so many before him, James has been busy putting together a new game in recent months and you can hear it through his music. That night, we stayed for an entire set listening to James, Matt Johnson on the kit, and Roger Tausz on bass cover all the genres of blues, funk, rock, soul with heart felt integrity, the type you simply can’t fake if you don’t have it. I’ve heard Matt play before with James and Genghis Orq which qualifies him as a

We were able to catch up with Kelly McGuire, who is scheduled to release his new album around the end of March. Sticking with his tried and true methods, Kelly says his new songs are written about actual personal experiences, encounters and emotions but this time with a new sound – a common trait demonstrated amongst proven professional musicians. Audiences (me included) have been catching some of his new material and taking well to it. Be sure and catch Kelly at T-Bone Tom’s this spring before he heads out on his coast-to-coast CD release tour. Sounds like perfect spring fever to me! So imagine my delight this month getting to listen to three nights of musical magic including the 15th Anniversary of Sherlocks with an acoustic jam of Pirate Radio, Obsolete August, and David Grace in a jam session that I can someday see happening at Darryl’s House; the ever eclectic & classy Cerebelus duo with Rachel Naomi Walker and Amando Vazquez

Greetings, good people! Super Bowl is behind us. Winter came and left and came and left again. We had a great month in January with the hustle and bustle of the holidays finally slowing down a bit, I was able to be out there to catch a couple GREAT live music shows with you. Around town, here’s some of what went down:

Pirate Radio @ Sherlock’s Pub

Krewe du Lac King’s Cake & Royal Ball – Good times were had by many this Mardi Gras season. We enjoyed Wood & Wind on the T-Bone Tom’s stage during the King’s Cake celebration on perhaps the nicest weekend of the entire month and danced through the night with the Kelly McGuire Band performing at the Krewe’s Royal Ball. Word has clearly gotten out on what a fun Kelly McGuire with bunch this Krewe du Lac Royalty group is as turnout was very widespread this year and other media groups stopping by for a piece of the action. As for the music, readers may recall I’m on a perpetual quest to catch dueling lead guitarist duos trading it back and forth of the likes as Joe Walsh & Don Felder, Mark May & Paul Rameriz, and happy to report McGuire and Ken Reynolds now in that group. Hope to add more in the coming year…

Perfect Pairing – Is familiar lingo amongst us merry mongers who enjoy the perfect wining and dining combination. Add to that winning duet some enjoyable live music and you have a trifecta, which is exactly what patrons scored when Andrew Bateman recently started appearing at Mainly Drinks on Main Street

How long have you been a bartender? How long at Tookie's? I have been bartending since I was 18 starting at a country club... So going on 9 years! I've been with Tookie's since the restaurant reopened. So that will be 4 years in August. What do you love about working at Tookie's? There are many reasons why I love my job at Tookie's. For starters, I love working for Barry and Melissa Terrell! And I love working for all my management we have here and for Tookie's Seafood. When I leave for a week or a weekend for a vacation, I always find myself missing work. Tookie's is my second home, and my coworkers and management are my family. Signature drink and a special Valentine’s Day drink: I've never had a "Signature" drink. I've always just grabbed some bottles and made it work! Nothing else screams "Valentine's Day" to me like a classic Dirty Martini: Slightly dirty, bleu cheese stuffed olives and Tito's, please! I say Valentine's Day, you say... LOVE! Favorite candy? Haribo Gummy Bears! I can eat them all day, everyday. Are you a Romantic at heart? Of course! I've always been a hopeless romantic. I will forever believe in love. Favorite romantic movie? Easy! Breakfast at Tiffany's. Valentine's crush in a parallel universe? The young Elvis Presley! What do you do when not at work? I'm an artist, so occasionally I'll pull out my acrylic paints and a canvas to create something new. Other days (when I am off), I like to be around my friends and family and enjoy time with them.

Where: 6425 Broadway Street Pearland When: Monday - Friday 4-7pm What: 1/2 off all beer, select wines discounted to $4 per glass.

Mardi Gras! What would your krewe be? I've always wanted a masquerade theme of some sort! So definitely masquerade. The most amusing or weird question you have ever been asked by a customer? Oh my! One time at a restaurant I worked for I was asked to take off my shoe and let the customer pour his beer inside it to drink from it. He offered me $100! But no way was I going to take that! - Continued on Page 35

They appreciate relationships of substance at home. 13. Bartenders often have dreams beyond bartending. Bartenders are used to taking care of customers, even anticipating their tastes and desires. Make a bartender’s day by buying him/her a drink — elsewhere. 7. Bartenders are practically therapists. Having witnessed plenty of dates (and likely having lent a listening ear to many brokenhearted drinkers), your date will have a unique perspective on relationships. 8. Matt Damon did. He met his wife, Luciana Barroso, at the bar where she was pouring drinks. They’re now raising four daughters together.

1661 Craft House:

All Texas All Of The Time By Rhonda Meredith Calling all beer snobs who think that the big domestic beer companies make brews that taste like crap. “Of course those beers can be useful when used like ginger to clean your palate in between all of the incredible local hand-crafted beers that 1661 Craft House serves by the cases exclusively,” said John White, owner of 1661 Craft House. This is a call to all locals who know that Texas is a state of mind, and there can never be too much pride when speaking of our great Lone Star state. This is a call to everyone who has a taste for beer that is hand-crafted “deep in the heart of Texas” or from anywhere in Texas for that matter. This is a call to everyone who was not lucky enough to be born in Texas, but got here as quickly as he or she could… 1661 Craft House is seeking like-minded individuals, who appreciate beer from independent Texas breweries, as well as locally distilled spirits, handcrafted syrups and mixers, beef from farm in Alvin that features grass fed-cattle, fresh vegetables from Santa Fe, and live musical entertainment all in one kick-ass venue. It is a simple attitude, but an attitude nonetheless. You may not belong there if you don’t get it. 1661 Craft House, located at 2660 Marina Bay Dr. in League City, is the Bay Area’s first small batch, hand-crafted, locally sourced bar. “We walk the walk and talk the talk,” said White. “We buy all products from local businesses first. Anything that can be made from scratch, we make in-house. All tapped beer is from independently distributed breweries. We strive to put our money into our community rather than someone else’s economy.” This is “brew kettle to glass” and “farm to table.” If these are new terms to you, then head over to 1661 Craft House for some education. Explore the options of 61 tapped beers, more than 100 different bottles, bombers and cans. Choose an adult drink from their extensive menu with more than 60 types of beer cocktails, shooters and beer combinations. So much liquid goodness with some drinks containing freshly squeezed juices, house-fused vodkas, and homemade bitters, mixers and syrups. 1661 Craft House offers their exclusive beer reduction syrups (simply syrups) that were recently patented and started the production process this week. Within approximately two months, the 1661 Craft Store will open, and these syrups will be offered on shelves along with craft beer, wine, food, soda, and candy all of which will be hand<< Locally Sourced Burger: Local beef, crafted. Neighboring the 1661 Craft Store will be the eggs, bacon on a locally made donut Growler Fill-Up Station. - Continued on Page 35 bun.” Regular, local buns available.

FOR THE LOVE OF MUSIC: Local Musicians We Love Share Which Original Songs They Love By Rhonda Meredith

Fear The Poet

“I think music in itself is healing. It's an explosive expression of humanity. It's something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we're from, everyone loves music.” - Billy Joel

Kelly McGuire Band Sat., Feb. 14 T-BONE TOM’S

The quotes are endless about the power of music and its ability to penetrate through a crowd of one or one thousand. Music has an expressive power that many have experienced. A song can be stuck re-playing in the mind, carried in the heart, or even as deep as the soul. Lyrics can take one back to a specific time (good or bad) or even release one to move forward. Local bands and songwriters shared with us their favorite original songs to perform live. These are the songs they love, and we think you will too. …For there is nothing like the love of music. “What Will Be” by FEAR THE POET “FEAR THE POET’s new song ‘What Will Be’ is about a forbidden love that is so strong, it’s described as an out-of-body experience. An overwhelming ecstasy that fills each moment,” said Sherita Perez, front woman of FEAR THE POET. “It's like a total loss of gravity! Robin Then, when realizing you’re vulnerable, you say ‘Hey, let's Kirby just see what this turns in to;’ which is ironic because, what you really want to say is, ‘I want to stay in this moment with you forever.’” You can hear “What Will Be” on FEAR THE POET’s debut album scheduled to be released this spring. Follow FEAR THE POET on www.reverbnation.com\FearThePoet.

“My Sweet Valentine” by ROBIN KIRBY "My Sweet Valentine” is a song written for my partner on Valentine’s Day last year,” said Robin Kirby, front woman and founder of ROBIN KIRBY & FRIENDS. “Yes, it has that Valentine’s theme, and I was really into old-style country when writing the music and lyrics. ‘My Sweet Valentine’ is a great new love song with a way-back feel.” Hear the song for yourself at www.reverbnation.com/RobinKirby. Kirby is writing a new album this year with “14 songs in the 28 days of February.” Follow her progress here: www.fawm.org/fawmers/robinkirby. Stay tuned as she may write yet another Valentine’s love song! “Love Bites” by ERASETHEVIRUS "Love Bites” is a very sexual song that I enjoying singing,” said Chris Navasatis, frontman and ERASETHEVIRUS founder. “Yes, it has that vampire theme as I was really into the True Blood HBO series when writing the lyrics, and some may find them cheesy. I always say that 'If you don’t like the song, I know your girlfriend will!' It's our 'panty dropper' song.” The band has been around for almost 11 years now and is currently working on new music.
