188. French Bisque Musical Automata “Lady with Perfume and Hankie” by Lambert 18” (46 cm.) Standing upon a wooden platform with patterned brown velvet cover is a bisque head lady with brown glass paperweight inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, brush-stroked brows, rose-blushed eye shadow, closed mouth, pierced ears, pale-blonde mohair wig over cork pate, carton torso and legs with shapely lady torso and long slender legs, bisque forearms. When wound, music plays, and the lady turns her head side-to-side while dabbing perfume onto the hankie she holds; then she inclines her head forward and delicately touches the hankie to her face. Condition: generally excellent, mechanism and music function well. Marks: Depose Tete Jumeau Bte SGDG 1 (and artist checkmarks on head) (partial original paper label on base). Comments: Leopold Lambert with bisque head by Jumeau, circa 1890. 189. Very Rare French Bisque Bébé by Joanny with Superb Bisque 26” (66 cm.) Pressed bisque socket head with very plump cheeks, large blue glass paperweight inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, rose-blushed eye shadow, brush-stroked and multi-feathered brows, accented eye corners, shaded nostrils, closed mouth with well-defined, shaded and outlined lips, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, French composition and wooden eight-loose-ball-jointed body with plump limbs, straight wrists. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 12. Comments: Joanny, from his prestigious doll store at 202 rue de Rivoli, the doll dates from the early years, circa 1882. Value Points: early dolls by this firm are rarely found, the facial model most distinctive and compelling, this example with especially fine bisque, painting, gorgeous eyes, original body and body finish, and wonderful antique costume. $6000/8500
