ain may have forced the Hopewell High School graduation inside the school’s gymnasium, but it didn’t seem to dampen the spirits of anyone in the class of 2013. Many graduates expressed their happiness at reaching this milestone. “I’m happy I made it. It was a long journey, but I am proud to be a graduate of Hopewell High,” said graduate Petra Danston. Class of 2013 Valedictorian Eboni Brown echoed those sentiments in her comM10

Brown remembered her years at the school with a smile, even the inconvenience caused by the high school’s remodeling phase, and praised the strength of her classmates in overcoming the many struggles they faced to reach this point in their lives. She said, “we came as young children unsure of the future and conquered every obstacle present to be sitting in these seats.” Brown thanked her fellow classmates and “a few pivotal teachers” for making

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” Marriane Williamson Your dedication and hard work has paid off! Congratulation 2013 Graduates! A

lthough the day was gloomy and rainy, the Thomas Dale High School class of 2013 sat inside the Stuart C. Siegel Center in Richmond waiting to start their futures bright in contrast. Senior class president Skye Hagood acknowledged those bright futures in her commencement address. “Once we swing our tassels to the left, we will become freshmen all over again whether in the workplace, college or the military.” Looking out among his classmates, Salutatorian Colin Neal acknowledged the potential of the class of 2013. “... I see doctors, lawyers, businessmen,

police officers, teachers and engineers,” said Neal, who plans to attend the University of Virginia in the fall to study political science and pre-law. Valedictorian Cameron Kiddy left the class with the message that life is all about overcoming obstacles. “I am not a fan of speaking in front of crowds but it is a challenge I am overcoming, But that is why we are here, isn’t it? As we have come to realize, life is not that simple,” she said. On Friday morning, June 7, more than 500 Thomas Dale High School seniors received their diplomas inside the Stuart C.
