SUMMER SEASON

03/04/2017 15:37

WELCOME Welcome to summer! We’re doing things a bit differently this year as we throw open our doors and take our work outside; it’s all about the social. We’d like you to come and get involved and take part in what will be a season of new and exciting events. Our Summer Social is two weeks of getting involved, getting together and enjoying some great experiences. We kick off with a cèilidh from the fantastic Threepenny Bit, animating our new foyer with Jonny and the Baptists followed by an invitation to gaze up at the clouds in Cloudscapes from Associate Artist Lorna Rees/ Gobbledegook Theatre. There’s also two special nights of outdoor cinema, including the original 1925 version of Phantom of the Opera with live music from Minima. We are also privileged to be presenting a preview of Kneehigh’s Tristan & Yseult before they take it to Shakespeare’s Globe for its final run. You will leave this performance feeling as though you have fallen in love.

Get ready for Eastleigh Town Centre to be filled with stunning aerial theatre, circus, interactive performance and live music! Our free outdoor festival brings the best companies and performers to Eastleigh, including one of the leading UK dance companies Motionhouse with their athletic blend of dance and aerial work Captive, plus the magical mobile world of The Oakmobile from Talking Birds; Team Extreme’s daring demos and the thrill of All the Journeys I Never Took; an intimate performance in a car around the streets of Eastleigh. For the second year, we are hosting the European Aerial Dance Festival which takes over all our spaces, with people swinging from every ceiling and attracting an international crowd. Come and be sociable and have some fun, it is summer after all!

Lorna creates an outdoor auditorium — a cloud-gazing area where we will encourage people to look up and contemplate the mutability of clouds, as well as the mutability of humanity. Even the most seemingly featureless skies provide plentiful material.

“By inviting us to relax and listen, and to look up rather than along the horizontal plane that we mostly operate in, Lorna Rees has given us a marvellous gift.
