Clarksburg High School’s Holly Wilson takes the ball away from Gaithersburg’s Katie Bol on Thursday. these two captains graciously accepted it and did it and played great behind the ball.” Leah Brown, a freshman midfielder, echoed the same sentiment about the injuries and adjusting to an ever-changing lineup. “We have a lot of injuries. It seems like there are new injuries every week, and we have four or five starters who are out,” she said. “It is affecting us a lot, but we are getting through it. [Play-

“The freshmen are going to be the driving force of this program,” he said. “We are in a good spot going forward. We heard this from the seniors when the year started, ‘Oh, you guys are going to be so good next year,’ and I quickly change that and say, ‘It’s not about next year. It’s about this year.’ It’s about proving to themselves and everyone else in this county that we can play a young lineup and be successful, and they are seeing it play out right now.”

I think the young players are adapting really well, and we are playing really well as a team.” Despite the injuries, Bowers is keeping his team focused on playing one game at a time and continuing to work towards a playoff run this season, and continued success in the coming seasons.
