Back to the Redhead, that’s Wendy McClure of the Boss 107.1.

Manahawkin, It does not seem quite like a year ago when the Causeway Family of Dealerships adopted it’s newest family member, but yes Causeway Hyundai turned a year old on September 1, 2017! Michael Kuna, Causeway Hyundai’s Senior Sales Manager, shared his first year thoughts on Causeway Hyundai. “Year one consisted many challenges. Learning all the ins and out’s of having a new brand of vehicles to sell. Learning new programs , procedures and the fact that our lot was completely inadequate to serve our sales and service customers sufficiently. The best thing was meeting all the new customers each time we assisted them with their purchase or service needs. We even met some of our previous Causeway Customers. One challenge was training an entirely new sale staff. The good part of that was we could train them the way we wanted them to learn. It has worked out very well!”

Jerry Langton is back at Causeway Hyundai! Jerry worked at Hyundai for 8 years. Michael Kuna added, “Recently we had the opportunity to bring an experienced salesperson that worked for the previous Hyundai dealer back to Causeway Hyundai. His name is Jerry Langton. Jerry worked at this Hyundai location for 8 years so he will be a recognized face to many Hyundai customers. Jerry has been selling cars here in Ocean County for 17 years. He is married has 2 children and lives right in Manahawkin. He has been a coach for American Youth Football and

loves attending Southern Regional High School games as well. We know Jerry will be a great addition to the Causeway Hyundai sales team!” Now let’s talk about the Redhead…Wendy McClure is from the Rob and Wendy morning show on the New 107.1 and 99.7 The Boss radio. She and her crew were doing a live radio remote recently and while she was there, “Mike Kuna made me a deal I just couldn’t refuse” said Wendy. Yes Wendy purchased a brand new 2017 Hyundai from her favorite Ocean County Hyundai dealer!

Located in the heart of Ocean County, Hackensack Meridian Health Southern Ocean Medical Center has been caring for the community for more than 40 years. In the past several years, numerous investments to facilities and services have brought new treatments, breakthrough technologies, and skilled expertise right here, and in many locations throughout the community.

More renovations at Southern Ocean Medical Center include a new cancer care center, an investment of more than $20 million to ensure that state-of-the-art, comprehensive cancer services are available to patients in one location. A brand new spacious lobby and renovations to the clinical areas on the first floor add a contemporary welcoming look for patients and visitors alike. Expanding physician expertise is a priority; skilled physicians specializing in colorectal surgery, orthopedics, neurology, ENT, and primary care have joined the medical team and have expanded the scope of specialized expertise available close to home.

One year ago, a 16,545-square-foot renovation on the medical center’s campus expanded Southern Ocean Medical Center’s multidisciplinary cancer program, where patients can schedule a singular appointment in which their entire cancer care team will be present. Key features of the expansion include 20 infusion stations for chemotherapy treatment, expanded nurse navigator services to guide patients through their care journey, and a multidisciplinary oncology suite. FORD PERFORMANCE TO OFFER TRIBUTE LIVERY OF HISTORIC 1967 LE MANS WINNER WITH 2018 FORD GT ‘67 HERITAGE EDITION DEARBORN, Mich., Aug. 15, 2017 – The 2018 Ford GT will be available in a new limited-edition Heritage theme honoring the GT40 Mark IV race car driven to victory by the all-American team of Dan Gurney and A.J. Foyt at Le Mans in 1967. The car will feature unique interior and exterior color themes, and an exclusive wheel finish. “In creating a worthy successor to the 2017 Heritage edition, we logically looked at our next historic Le Mans victory with the all-American team of Dan Gurney and A.J. Foyt,” said Dave Pericak, global director Ford Performance. “The 2018 Ford GT ’67 Heritage edition pays homage to that win, with a modern take on one of the most important vehicles in Ford’s storied history of racing.” The Ford GT ’67 Heritage edition features a gloss-finish Race Red exterior with white stripes and exposed carbon package. The car sports Frozen White No. 1 hood and door graphics, and 20-inch one-piece forged aluminum wheels in silver satin clearcoat with black lug nuts. Red calipers and silver rearview mirror caps complete the look. The interior begins with new leather trimming for the carbon fiber seats, with red accent stitching, which carries over to the steering wheel. The seat belt webbing is now red and the paddle shifters are anodized gray. Satin dark stainless appliqués are used on the instrument panel, door register bezels and x-brace. Rounding out modifications to the ’67 Heritage edition car are a unique serialized identification plate, plus exposed matte carbon fiber door sills, air register pods and center console. “The first Heritage edition car was a huge success, honoring our history with a modern interpretation of the Le Mans winner,” said Garen Nicoghosian, exterior design manager for the car. “Continuing with a 2018 Ford GT based on the winning GT40 Mark IV race car was simply something we needed to do.”

The Ford GT ’67 Heritage edition can be viewed at FordGT.com using the configuration tool. Limited quantities will be available for the 2018 model year.

NISSAN: WHAT IS NEW FOR 2018

nissannews.com. Stay tuned for additional What's New updates as they become available. Nissan Intelligent Mobility – building on global progress The world is facing serious challenges such as air pollution, worsening traffic jams and frequent accidents. Nissan is committed to playing a role in addressing these challenges by making transportation safer, smarter and more enjoyable, with the ultimate goal of achieving zero emissions and zero fatalities. Nissan Intelligent Mobility is the roadmap to achieve this "zero-zero" future. Guided by the vision of mobility for all, Nissan is democratizing these innovations by bringing them from luxury segments to affordable high volume models and ensuring everyone has access to the benefits. Nissan is making cars exciting partners for our customers.

At Nissan, the 2018 model year will be marked by exciting new products and new technologies – all in support of Nissan Intelligent Mobility, a global initiative that focuses on how Nissan vehicles are driven, powered and integrated into society. Three new technologies already have been announced: ProPILOT™ Assist, Rear Door Alert (RDA) and Intelligent Rearview Mirror (I-RVM). Nissan also recently announced that it is making Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) standard on a projected one million vehicles sold in the United States for model year 2018, including seven of the company's most popular models – Rogue/ Rogue Sport, Altima, Murano, LEAF, Pathfinder, Maxima and Sentra (except manual transmission-equipped and all NISMO versions). As for updates on 2018 models, this edition of What's New features highlights of the 370Z Coupe, 370Z Roadster, 370Z NISMO Tech, Pathfinder, Armada and Versa Sedan. In addition, the all-new 2018 LEAF makes its U.S. debut in early 2018 – with a 150-mile driving range, all new design inside and out, and a range of available safety, security and driving assistance technologies including ProPILOT™ Assist. Stay tuned for more information. And finally, Nissan's popular Midnight Edition lineup expands in 2018 with the addition of the unique blackout treatment on the TITAN, TITAN XD and Frontier pickups. As always, full information on all Nissan vehicles is available online at

Nissan Intelligent Mobility is not solely focused on autonomous vehicles - it is an initiative to differentiate Nissan by focusing on how our vehicles are driven, powered, and integrated into society. Some of these developments are not in the distant future – they are taking shape in the vehicles we drive today. Nissan Intelligent Mobility encompasses three core areas of innovation: Nissan Intelligent Driving helps to give customers more confidence through enhanced safety, control, and comfort for everyone on board. Driver Assist technologies can already be found in Nissan vehicles today, including the Japanese market Nissan Serena, the first model produced to feature ProPILOT Assist technology and will be joined by the European model Qashqai in fall 2017, along with the all-new, second-generation Nissan LEAF near the beginning of 2018. Nissan Intelligent Power makes driving more exciting for customers by continuing to reduce emissions and increase fuel economy. Nissan is committed to a holistic approach to achieving zero-emission mobility by making internal combustion engines more efficient and putting more advanced technologies into our electric vehicles. Nissan Intelligent Integration keeps customers more connected by conveniently linking Nissan cars to the wider society. Nissan is helping to shape a sustainable ecosystem enabling cars to interact with people, other cars and road infrastructure. This approach will eventually lead to remote vehicle operation, reduced traffic jams, more efficient car sharing, and improved energy management.

The Four Commandments (of many) of driving in New Jersey By Vin Ebenau September 6, 2017 4:00 AM

kids are supposed to cross in front of the bus, be cognizant that some of these kids are little and don’t know, and they may just dart in front of you.”

There are many rules to the road and they’re in place for safety reasons to protect both you and I and the many other who walk, bike, run or drive on New Jersey roadways. There are four situations in particular many of us come to face with on a daily basis.

Schwartz advises students walking to school to do so with a group of friends so drivers can spot them easier among other helpful safety tips.

Statistics put out recently by the New Jersey State Police and covered in a report by Townsquare Media New Jersey, show some startling and grim numbers for fatalities on the roads at the shore alone. 34-fatal crashes and 35-fatalies in Ocean County alone this year lead the state, while Monmouth County isn’t too far behind with 22-fatal crashes and 25-fatalies. These tragedies have occurred for various different reasons and for different sets of circumstances. Here are Four Commandments of driving in New Jersey I’ve come up with, that if followed could lower the numbers above and make the shore a safe place for all. 1. Driving and walking safely in a school zone It’s the first week back at school which means drivers and pedestrians should be paying even greater attention to their surroundings to ensure everyone’s safety. Lt. Ryan Roth, in charge of traffic safety with Berkeley Township police says drivers need to pay close attention in a school zone with little kids running around. “Be aware that children under the age of 10 may not

be able to judge speed and distance very well,” said Roth. “They also can’t judge where noises are coming from very effectively until they’re 10-years old and older. If you see a young child be cognizant of the fact that they may not even realize the noise you car is making is coming from that direction.”

“Never pass a school bus with its lights on,” said Schwartz.

However, if you do find yourself in a school zone he urges safety first. “If you are behind a school bus leave yourself enough space so that if those amber and red lights come on, you can stop in time safely,” said Schwartz. “Even though the

The Four Commandments (of many) of driving in New Jersey from page 5

heads out without warning to avoid an accident.

2. Sharing the road and playing nice with other drivers There’s no reason to floor it down Route 37, Route 9 or any other road for that matter or to roll past stop signs or fail to yield…at an actual yield sign.

“You can cross at any intersection that’s not marked, then vehicles have to yield to you,” said Roth.

Jersey roads are not the track for the Daytona 500, although that seems to be a daily occurrence here at the shore.

For pedestrians who dart across the road in front of oncoming traffic, Roth says you can only do so legally if it doesn’t interrupt traffic.

“If there’s any kind of construction going on or any kind of delay, people start getting frustrated and that’s when they start weaving in-and-out trying to make up that time,” said Schwartz. “When they’re doing that…that’s usually when they get themselves into an accident.”

“You can cross in the middle (of the road) between crosswalks,” said Roth. “Legally you can cross without jay-walking as long as you don’t interrupt traffic at all. If there’s a huge gap in both directions and you can safely walk across without interrupting anyone’s driving, that’s legally okay.”

He says if you plan ahead and leave timely, there wont be a need for speed. “You’re going to save yourself maybe 30-seconds in the long run,” said Schwartz. “If you hit somebody and injure them, you’re going to live with that for the rest of your life plus all the criminal charges you’d be facing. It’s never worth it, just stop and observe the traffic laws. If you plan ahead and leave enough time, those things won’t become an issue for you.”

4. No Texting and Driving but also No Texting and Walking Multi-tasking is a real necessity in today’s working environment…but that’s at work…not on the road…at least in regards to using your phone. 3. Walk safely on the roads especially those without sidewalks and don’t run across the road to try and beat oncoming traffic.

“You definitely don’t want to play chicken with the cars, you’re always going to lose,” said Schwartz, who re-stresses the importance of leaving on time to get where you need to be. He says pedestrians have the right of way at a crosswalk as long as the signal is in their favor. “If there’s a green traffic signal on Route 37 for example, those cars are going to have the right of way,” said Schwartz. “You can’t just dart across because there happens to be a crosswalk there, you have to wait for a red light and then for the crosswalk signal to activate.” He suggests drivers should hover their foot over the brake in the event a pedestrian

By Anne Green Cardiovascular disease accounts for nearly 801,000 deaths in the United States. That’s about one of every three deaths in the U.S. Thanks to more education about healthy eating and advancements in treatment, fewer people die of heart disease than in the past. That said, clogged heart arteries are still the number-one cause of death in the United States. If you have heart attack symptoms such as chest pain (angina), shortness of breath, dizziness and extreme tiredness or, if a screening exam such as an electrocardiogram (ECG) or stress test suggests there may be a heart condition that needs to be further explored, your doctor may order a cardiac catheterization to evaluate heart function and to help detect many other heart conditions. If a cardiac catheterization (often called cardiac cath) is recommended, look for a hospital that has an accredited chest pain program such as Hackensack Meridian Health Southern Ocean Medical Center (SOMC). Their highly trained team of interventionalists, board-certified radiologists, cardiologists, vascular surgeons, nationally certified nurses, and technicians provides easy access to testing and services, close to home.

“We’re definitely seeing that as a factor in pedestrian crashes,” said Roth. “People are looking down at their phone and crossing major streets.” He says officers can ask pedestrians to be more aware of what they’re doing, but “there’s nothing we can really do to force people to do the right thing.” Roth urges all pedestrians to think safety first, and be conscious of where you’re going. For a list of safety tips and laws, head over to the NJ Department of Law and Public Safety’s website.

• Confirm the presence of a congenital heart defect

• Check for narrow or blocked blood vessels that could cause chest pain

• Look for problems with your heart’s valves

• Measure the amount of oxygen in our heart

• Measure the pressure inside your heart

• Biopsy tissue from your heart

• Evaluate and determine the need for further treatment

Cardiac catheterization can help your doctor diagnose and treat problems that might otherwise cause larger issues, such as heart attack or stroke. You may be able to prevent a heart attack or stop a future stroke if your doctor is able to correct any problems discovered during the procedure. BACK IN THE GAME

Southern Ocean Medical Center’s cuttingedge treatments and seamless patient care improves the quality of life in the community. Arianna Muti, a creative 10-year old from Manahawkin, was diagnosed in the Emergency Department with a brain bleed by pediatrician Moses Olorunnisola, M.D. Dr. Moses knew they needed to move fast. However, due to tremendous pressure on her brain, Arianna ended up having a stroke. Once stabilized by Dr. Moses and the care team, she was airlifted to Hackensack University Medical Center. There, Dr. Arno Fried, a pediatric neurosurgeon, removed the bleed. After the surgery, Arianna became paralyzed on her right side; she couldn’t talk, walk, or move. After months in outpatient rehabilitation, she is improving every day and getting back to the activities she loves, like swimming, playing basketball, and creating beautiful art projects.

A new offense and a daunting early-season schedule translated into an 0-3 start for Southern last season, but the Rams were able to win five of their next six games to get to the playoffs and set the tone for what they believe will be an even better 2017 season. It took a while for Southern’s newly-installed Delaware Wing-T offense to gel last season, but when it did it produced wins over Jackson Memorial, Brick Memorial and Lacey to power a run to the South Jersey Group V playoffs. With a year of experience in the Wing-T, several returning starters and a 23-member senior class, the Rams are looking to challenge for the Class A South division title and return to the NJSIAA playoffs. “The biggest problem, I feel, we had last year was just the way the schedule hit us,” said Southern head coach Chuck Donohue Sr. “We had a nice Central team and then a really good Toms River North team and a real good Manalapan team. With a new offense, executing against those teams was just hard to do. I feel we’re going to come out of the blocks much better than last year and be much more formidable.” “With changing the offense last year it took a lot of adjustment,” said senior running back John Dolphin. “Once we got it down, and because we do have good depth at back, we’re able to run it pretty well.” “Everybody didn’t hit their stride until a few games in and now we’re levels beyond that,” said senior Joe Miele. Southern averaged 20.2 points per game last season and returns six starters on offense. Twin brothers Joe and Vin Miele will split time at fullback while Dolphin and fellow senior Matt Barnett are back as the wing backs. Barnett ran for 607 yards and eight touchdowns last season while Dolphin had 602 yards and three touchdowns. Junior Dupreme Holland, a Barnegat transfer, and junior Pat Scully will also see time in the backfield. The Rams’ new quarterback is senior Sean Distelcamp with junior Carmen Deo battling for playing time. The tight ends are senior Nate Farina and junior J.T. Cornelius while the wide receivers are seniors Mike Martin and Billy McCallion with senior Hunter John and junior Schneider Juste also scheduled to see time. Along with the stable of running backs, the offensive line looks to be a strength of Southern’s offense. Three starters return and the two new players were both starters on defense last year. Senior Dave Lowman is a returning starter at left tackle, senior Billy Rolenc is back as the starting center and senior Mike Levine returns to start at right tackle. Joining them will be senior Zach Otte at left guard and senior Matt Mackanic at right guard. Senior Ryan Goganzer could see time at tackle and senior Terrick Grace may play some snaps at guard. Southern’s defense allowed 26.1 points per game last season and has not performed up to its standards over the past couple seasons. Getting that side of the ball turned around has been a major focus throughout the offseason. “We haven’t been playing good defense the last couple years so my concerns are much more on that side of the ball,” Donohue said. “We have to fix that.” Six starters return in the Rams’ 5-2 front with Otte and senior Derek Wilson back at defensive end along the line. The nose guard will be either Mackanic or sophomore Sebastian Cervetto, and the tackles are Grace, Rolenc, Levine and Lowman in a rotation. Back as the starting inside linebackers are the Miele brothers with Scully and junior Joe Guglielmo backing them up. Dolphin and Barnett return as the starting cornerbacks, while juniors Luke Galan and Zack Hem are the safeties. Junior Robert Gunnell will see time at cornerback while Holland and McCallion should see snaps at safety. “Our defensive expectations are much higher,” said Joe Miele. “I think we gave up a lot more points than we should have last year. I’m trying to take control as one of the returning linebackers to get us back to getting shutouts and holding teams to low scores every week.” On special teams, Hem will be both the kicker and the punter. The schedule is once again tough early with Central in Week Zero followed by Toms River North and Manalapan, but the Rams are much more equipped to be competitive week to week and avoid the pitfalls of last season. “I think we’re ready,” Barnett said. “We made a playoff appearance last year and built momentum. We just want to keep working off that.” “Ever since seventh grade this group has been together,” Joe Miele said. “We’re still focused, but I think this is going to be a fun year.”

Health, New Jersey’s most comprehensive health networks. This powerful new alliance provides Southern Ocean Medical Center patients with new treatments, technology and expertise in their own backyard, with additional care options available quickly through the connection with Hackensack Meridian Health. One example: Southern Ocean Medical Center is now a member of the Memorial Sloan Kettering – Hackensack Meridian Health Partnership, which means patients in the community will now have opportunities to benefit from world-class case cancer protocols.

“Dr. Moses took her under his wing and is the epitome of the kind of doctor any parent would want their son or daughter to have—the kind that treats my kid as if she is his own,” says Arianna’s mother, Genevieve (Gina) Muti.

ALL-NEW LINCOLN CONTINENTAL EARNS COVETED TOP SAFETY PICK+ AWARD FROM IIHS DEARBORN, Mich., July 6, 2017 – The all-new Lincoln Continental has earned the highest award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety due to its available crash prevention system, along with the good rating achieved on crash tests and its optional adaptive LED headlamps. The 2017 Lincoln Continental, the flagship sedan of The Lincoln Motor Company, has secured the coveted Top Safety Pick+. The car’s available Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection earned a superior rating. The system, which is designed to reduce the severity of and, in some cases, even eliminate frontal collisions – including those involving pedestrians – uses radar and camera technology to provide a collision warning to the driver. If the driver does not respond in time, it can automatically apply the vehicle brakes. The Lincoln Continental, equipped with Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection, avoided collisions in track tests at 12 mph and 25 mph. The system’s forward collision warning component also meets National Highway Traffic Safety Administration criteria. The car’s available adaptive LED headlamps earned a good rating, providing ample lighting on a straightaway and on most curves. The headlamps use high-beam assist, a feature that automatically switches between high beams and low beams, depending on the presence of other vehicles. Vehicles qualify for a Top Safety Pick+ if they have good ratings in five crashworthiness tests – small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints – plus an available front crash prevention system that earns a superior or advanced rating, and good or acceptable headlights. The Lincoln Continental delivered on all aspects. For more information, please visit http://www. iihs.org/iihs/news.

New 2017 Honda HR-V CVT 2wd LX

Honda Fit Top Ranked in Kelley Blue Book’s “10 Best Back-to-School Cars of 2017” List Aug 22, 2017 - TORRANCE, Calif.

Three 2017 Honda models, the Fit, Civic and HR-V were each ranked highly by the experts at Kelley Blue Book (KBB) in their “10 Best Back-to-School Cars of 2017” list. More Honda vehicles were chosen by KBB than any other competitor, with the 2017 Fit subcompact car taking top honors and the Civic sedan and HR-V small SUV taking third and fourth places respectively. The 10 Best Back-to-School Cars list focuses on vehicles with a purchase price of less than $20,000 that are appealing to both parents and their student children. Of the top ranked Honda Fit, KBB lauded its value, reliability and safety plus its style, fun-to-drive nature and class-leading cargo flexibility. They praised the Honda Civic as being a good first new car for students and just about anyone else, and the Honda HR-V for being the benchmark subcompact SUV. hondanews.com
