On Saturday June 27th at 8am my journey started. I set out to run 100 miles for Ocean Of love, which is a charity that helps children in Ocean County with cancer. I started at our Clifton Applebee’s location at 8am with my crew of three ready to follow behind me in the chase vehicle which was so generously donated by Causeway Ford. My team was John Morey which is a manager with me at the Manahawkin Applebee’s.

Having worked Tuckerton/Little Egg Harbor area, whose homes had been devastated at Jeanne’s house, Sam G. (Age 15) wrote, “While in NJ I got to see how by Superstorm Sandy. The Ocean County Long Term Recovery Group thankful people were for us being there to help.”

Capturing the essence of what so many are seeking as they try to recover from Sandy, Ryan P (age 16) responded to the question “What is home?” with “For me, I know I have found home when I step onto my driveway, walk through my backyard and finally reach my backdoor” Many responded to the question “What do you bring to New Jersey?“ One Adult team member wrote, ’We get more than we give.’ I heard myself say this today when we were thanked by yet another person for ‘sacrificing yourselves and your time to come help our community.’” Liam M. (age 15) added, “If there is one thing I take out of this trip it’s that, even if I can’t contribute a lot to a cause, I am going to give my all”

This story would not be complete without some of the thoughts and reflections of the MPUC mission trippers themselves on questions posed to them daily by one of the adult leaders. These are quotes from the MPUC Youth Group Blog.

Volunteers from the Macalester Plymouth United Church in St Paul Minnesota

These two families would not have had the resources to complete their recovery were it not for volunteers. Seeking funding and construction assistance, homeowners Mary and James M. and Jeanne D. contacted the OCLTRG and AFWH. Mary and James M.’s single floor home in Mystic Island had been flooded with 3’ of water. As their story was related by one of the volunteers, “It’s not an exaggeration to say they lost nearly everything.” Jeanne D.’s expanded bungalow had been flooded with 4’ of water. She describes coming home and finding her silver drawer still filled with muddy seawater. She too lost nearly everything. After having their home gutted, Mary and James elevated it using flood insurance dollars but could not afford to continue the repairs. After several months of volunteer work with AFWH’s construction program, they are excited with the progress and the quality of the workmanship. They often stop by and have been known to offer a Pizza lunch for the volunteers. MPUC volunteer Simon B. (age 18) describes working at Mary and James’ house, “Since we started, the name of the game has been mudding, sanding, painting, and flooring. … Our work days have been long (~8 hours), but it seems as though each day goes by more quickly than you would think.”

Erica C. (age 17), one of the youth integral to planning the trip, summarized her thoughts saying, “The mission trip is not only a way to serve those in need and learn how to apply what I have learned to my life, but also is a way to build a community … not only within our youth group and church, but also as a nation.” And another Adult team leader captured what is so difficult for many in need after Sandy, that it is ok to ask for help. She relates an exchange she had with a homeowner. “Mary offered to buy us lunch.” The leader declined the lunch but Mary responded “‘I know you don’t want to take any help. … I used to be that way, too.’” The leader goes on realizing “She [Mary] had already learned that we are all stronger when we work together. I am reminded of that again now, too.” Youth, college, and many all-adult volunteer teams continue to come to New Jersey to work. They come with all levels of skills and expertise. They bring a passion for helping and an attention to detail as if working on their own homes. They bring HOPE!!!

If you need help with your Sandy recovery … or if you want to donate to help others, please call the Ocean County Long Term Recovery Group at 732-569-3484 or go to the website (www.oceancountyltrg.org).

2015 NISSAN LEAF Nissan’s “No Charge to Charge” Program

Nissan is launching its “No Charge to Charge” promotion for Boston-area Nissan LEAF buyers, providing two years complimentary public charging with the purchase of the all-electric car from LEAFcertified dealers in the Boston market.

“Nissan LEAF is an attractive option for Boston car buyers because it is fun to drive and offers significantly lower operating costs when compared to a gas-powered car,” said Andrew Speaker, director, Electric Vehicle (EV) Sales & Marketing, Nissan. “EV charging infrastructure continues to grow in Boston, and access to free public charging for new LEAF buyers helps make owning an all-electric vehicle even more cost-effective and convenient.” “No Charge to Charge” launched at Nissan LEAF dealers in the Boston market on July 1. The promotion includes access to fast chargers that can charge a LEAF battery pack from empty to 80 percent in about 30 minutes, as well as level 2 (240V) chargers spread throughout the Boston area. Nissan now offers “No Charge to Charge” in 17 U.S. markets, including San Francisco, Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Diego, Fresno, Seattle,

Portland (Oregon), Chicago, Atlanta, Indianapolis, Nashville, Phoenix, Dallas-Ft. Worth, Houston, Denver and Washington, D.C. Nissan plans to offer the “No Charge to Charge” program at LEAF dealers in a total of at least 25 U.S. markets later this year. With more than 180,000 global sales and more than 80,000 in the U.S., Nissan LEAF is the world’s best-selling electric car. LEAF features seating for up to five passengers and boasts an EPAestimated* driving range of 84 miles on a fullycharged battery and MPGe ratings of 126 city, 101 highway and 114 combined. The starting price of a Nissan LEAF is about $22,000 after maximum available federal tax credits, and LEAF offers the benefits of lower running

costs and less scheduled maintenance. Nissan manufactures LEAF and its battery pack at its plant in Smyrna, Tennessee.

SHELBY GT350R-C

QUALIFIES ON POLE IN IMSA

For Oceans of Love By: Richard McCleary

On Saturday June 27th at 8am my journey started. I set out to run 100 miles for Ocean Of love, which is a charity that helps children in Ocean County with cancer. I started at our Clifton Applebee’s location at 8am with my crew of three ready to follow behind me in the chase vehicle which was so generously donated by Causeway Ford. My team was John Morey which is a manager with me at the Manahawkin Applebee’s. Then to help John with driving we had Christina Thorsen and Alexis Bostel which are both employees of ours. So the van was loaded and ready to go and so was I as I started running out of the Clifton commons and toward the streets of Newark and Elizabeth. The first 19 or so miles had to be on the local streets due to the fact that the main roads in North Jersey are too busy to be running on.

Richard at the Shannon Rose

Once I got to Rahway I picked up route 35 and headed to my first pit stop which was The Shannon Rose which is one of our franchises, Doherty Enterprises, restaurants. There I was greeted by the management team and their employees cheering me on as I completed my first 22 miles. There I changed out some water bottles grabbed a quick bite and it was right back on the road. As I headed down route 35 and over the bridge that crosses the Raritan River the rain started to come down. But I couldn’t let that slow me down, I kept pressing on toward my next major pit stop, Applebee’s in Middletown. Not only was I greeted with cheers but there was someone there that wanted to run a few miles with me. Her name was Reggie Toomey. It was the perfect time to have company because that was when the rain really started coming down. By the time we hit the 3rd pit stop, 14 miles later at Ocean Applebee’s, we were drenched. However, once again we were welcomed with cheers from the employees and the guests of Ocean Applebee’s. I was at the 54 mile mark and we decided to wait about

Richard McCleary with Skip Martin and the donated van

20 min to see if the storm was going to pass, but as we waited the rain began to come down even heavier. So I decided to get back out there and continue on. By the time we got to the Howell Applebee’s which was pit stop #4 and mile 67 the rain started to let up a little. So after a quick change of shirts and shoes and a bowel of hot Mashed potatoes it was time to move on. So I kept running through the night passing through Lakewood and finally entered into Toms River in the wee hours of the morning. When I got to the Office lounge on the corner of 37 I was Greeted by Maria Oltarzewski who is a very big part of Ocean of Love. She was there to give me a big cheer and a big hug and lots of words of encouragement. Also there was Sarah Ortiz who is a customer at our Applebee’s and I can now call a friend. She volunteered to run the last 22 miles with me. Let me tell you, after running 20 some hours and sleep deprivation setting in, Sarah was a life saver. From there we headed down Rout 9 toward the last pit stop before the end. There we were greeted by Joe Gerber, the General manager of the Lacey Applebee’s who came in just to cheer me on. From there it was time for the final push to Manahawkin Applebee’s just 13 more miles to go. Along those 13 miles several of my employees joined in on the run to help me get through this last leg of the 100 miles. With just 2 miles to go I was joined by the Stafford Township fire department. And with several of their fire trucks and emergency vehicles they escorted me in where after 27.5 hours of running I was greeted by a crowed of both employees and guests cheering and all ready to have a beer with me in celebration of a great accomplishment for an amazing charity. I want to thank both Skip Martin and Joe Stroffolino of the Causeway Family of Dealerships for donating the chase vehicle with such short notice. It was a huge help having a van instead of a car. I was able to change inside the van where I had cover from the weather.

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y., – The all-new Ford Shelby GT350R-C earned its first number-one qualifying spot in its first race, adding a new chapter to the nameplate’s legendary racing pedigree. Driver Scott Maxwell recorded a lap time of 2 minutes, 1.358 seconds to earn the overall numberone qualifying spot, and the TOTAL Pole Award, in a field of 15 Grand Sport competitors. “For me, it’s more rewarding for everyone at Ford and Multimatic who have put in so many hours into development of this car, both on and off the track,” Maxwell said. “For me, it’s giving something back. Honestly, we (as drivers) have the best job and the easiest job. We jump in the car and benefit from all their hard work. Once in a while it’s nice to earn the pole and let them know all their hard work paid off.” Multimatic will compete with the No. 15 and its sister car, the No. 158 Shelby GT350R-C, for the remainder of the 2015 IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge schedule. The Shelby GT350R production car was unveiled in January, and is one of more than 12 new vehicles Ford Performance will bring to market through 2020. Both production and race car versions feature the first-ever production car V8 from Ford with a flat-plane crankshaft. This unique layout – typically reserved for the world’s most exotic sports cars – helped create the most powerful naturally aspirated engine Ford has ever produced. Along with its all-new 5.2-liter flat-plane crankshaft V8, the race car features an adapted version of the advanced, fully independent suspension from GT350R – fitted with revised spring rates and antiroll bars, lower ride height, unique track-tuned alignment settings, revised bushings and cross-axis ball joints in the front. It’s the perfect fit for the door-to-door racing sports car fans – and drivers – expect.

“The Continental Tire Challenge racing is exceptional racing,” Maxwell said. “The last hour of these races is 10 professional racers going at it, and it’s as good as racing you’ll find anywhere. A lot of times, you don’t know what the outcome of the race will be until the last few minutes.” Maxwell’s co-driver Billy Johnson watched the qualifying session from the team’s stall on pit lane. “(That qualifying session) was definitely tight,” said Johnson. “The first three cars were within 3/10ths of a second, so you can’t ask for much more parity and a competitive race environment than that. Thankfully, Scott was able to put together that awesome lap and put the No. 15 Shelby GT350R-C on pole for its first race. This Shelby GT350R-C is an awesome car. Even the Mustang GT, with its new independent suspension, is just such a leap ahead of the solid axle suspension from the previous Mustangs. Then, the GT350 just takes that a step further, with all the modifications done to aerodynamics, the suspension and the powertrain. That’s just turned it into a fantastic race car. I’m really looking forward to the race tomorrow.” -www.media.ford.com

The centerpiece of the campaign is “The Incredible Pilot Elite,” which uses a unique blend of practical and CG to demonstrate the new styling and high-tech features of the all-new Pilot through different scenarios in an eye-catching way. The spot shows the interior spaciousness and versatility of the Pilot to accommodate growing families. An additional 30-second spot for the LX model will fit together and become a long-form piece. A second supporting spot called “Even Better,” directed by award-winning director Jason Reitman (Up in the Air, Juno), speaks to shared family moments. “Even Better” features a classic song, Weezer’s “Buddy Holly” that will resonate with parents and kids alike. The first notes are immediately recognizable by Honda’s target buyers who now have families of their own, and who remember that song from happy days of their youth. “The campaign leverages the Pilot’s strengths with two impactful spots, showing that the Pilot is ‘Ready for Anything.’ With its all-new styling, premium technology and adaptability, it’s the perfect vehicle for everyone,” said Jeff Conrad, senior vice president and general manager of the Honda Automobile Division of American Honda Motor Co., Inc.

Let me start of by saying that I’m not really a tree hugger or environmentalist, so why would I get the new Ford Fusion Energi (Plug-in Hybrid)? The Fusion comes in many different levels: Regular, Hybrid, and Plug-In Hybrid. The Plug in Hybrid (or PHEV as they call it) works just like any other Fusion Hybrid, with one little change! You have a mode that can go around 20 miles strictly in Battery or “EV” mode. So you can charge it up any place there’s a charger and 2 hours later you have a “gas free” 20 miles for nothing or almost nothing, it comes with a charger that you can plug into your household jack for 7 hours to charge it also. If you live and work in the same town you can go months or even years without ever starting up your gas engine, there are some people going 3,000 – 5,000 miles without filling up!

Congrats to 2015 Southern Regional Senior Baseball player Zach Mason on being selected to play in the All Shore All Star game last night (Tuesday, June 9th) at Blueclaws Stadium Lakewood BlueClaws. Zach is also selected to play in the NJSCA All Star game tomorrow night (June 11th) at Diamond Nation in Flemington, NJ. #SouthSquad

When my lease was just about up I started looking around at our monthly incentives and saw there was a massive rebate on the C-Max & Fusion Energi models. At the time I was like “There’s no way I’m driving a battery car”! The rebates kept bugging and bugging me, so I had one of the managers check it out. When he came back, he couldn’t believe the deal he was writing up. He started laughing and said the payment was only a couple dollars more than what I was currently driving (for a lot more car). So I drove the Energi a little bit and took the jump right after. Driving the Energi is a little bit different… in electric mode it is completely silent (it’s actually weird being in normal cars now with the engine noise). I thought when I first got it that there was going to be no power at all… but I was wrong! It actually has around 200hp and can go up to 85 mph in electric only mode, so I was shocked when I stepped on it the first time. I can actually change the modes, so when I go on the parkway I can change it to Hybrid mode so it uses the gas engine and the battery, then switch to Auto EV mode and have it just use the battery around town. If you run out of battery it’ll just turn into a regular Fusion Hybrid, you also don’t have to charge it up at all. I also signed up for My Ford Mobile and put in my times when I leave work so, if it’s on the charger

when I leave it will automatically cool or heat the car using the electric from the plug. I still have all the goodies in the vehicle like My Ford Touch, Blind Spot Warning (BLIS), Auto Hi-beams, Auto Wipers, and Lane Watch (It will monitor the road lines and if you start to weave it’ll steer you back into the middle of the lane automatically). So I’m not exactly roughing it in this car, not to mention it looks like a normal Fusion. Aside from the charging port on the side and an emblem, it doesn’t look like a UFO, like most other Hybrids on the market. Me being a Tech and car guy, I’ve driven most of the cars on the road today and I can honestly say this is the BEST car I have ever driven or owned, hands down!

I don’t know much about the long term for this vehicle. I only lease my cars, so that’s not even a factor for me. I know battery technology is still really young, so the technology can only go up from here. For more information you can email me at jay@ causewaycars.com or go to myfordmobile.com to experience the guest site for the vehicle controls. So if you see a Magnetic Grey Ford that is completely silent, pass you on 72, that’s just me in my gas/electric Fusion Thingamajig.

JULY / AUGUST 2015

RYAN’S RECREATIONAL REVIEW By Ryan Tacovsky –Sales Associate and Outdoor Enthusiast Summer comes and goes and the seasons change, and with that bring new and exciting outdoor activities. You have deer season from September through January, and turkey season in the heart of spring time. But we all know when summer hits the beaches get packed and the boats hit the water. My name is Ryan Tacovsky. Before I was employed by Causeway 2 years ago, I had worked in the marine field. All I would here about day in and day out was where the big fish were running or the best spot to go catch a door matt fluke. Each year it is different and that is what makes the adventure. So I hope maybe I can spread some of my knowledge to you so you can go out and catch some big fish this summer. Not everyone has a boat to go out on the bay or hit the ocean on. But there are a few different ways you can get out there and enjoy yourself for a day of fishing. One big way is going out on a charter boat. One of the biggest ones in the area are the Doris May right in Barnegat light. They have recently gone under new owner ship but there are many more out there just like this great charter. Usually you would pay a small fee to go out for a few hours and head

out to catch different types of fish. The most popular in the summer time is fluke, a lot like the flounder which is caught in the winter time. If you are the type who wants to do some exploring on your own you can always go and rent a boat for a few hours and go cruise the water on your own terms. There is a place right out of Bayville called Trixie’s, and you can rent a boat and head out to catch some fish for the morning or afternoon. When you head out you’re going to make sure you have the right equipment as well. Some live bait, nice jigs and lures will help your fishing experience to be a pleasurable one. Your local bait and tackle store will be able to help you out with that depending on what type of fish you are going after. Fishing is a great sport to get involved in, and it can be very rewarding and fun. Being knowledgeable in anything you do is good practice. So I hope you guys and girls get out there and get some fish or at least some fish stories to pass down to your family and children.

101 Dalmations!! By: Jennifer Baker Sales Consultant and Theatre Enthusiast

Our favorite Ocean County non-profit community theater is at it again. Get ready for “101 Dalmations,” this August. It has a high spirited score and lovable characters. Jennifer Baker O.G.P. has done this show in the past and it always goes over so well. They are expecting nothing less this time. There are so many talented kids in this show Stacey had to make 2 casts. So that means you

about the talented kids. Stacey also spoke highly of Ariana Centamore the show’s choreographer. Ariana has been in O.G.P. for ten years. She played adult June in “Gypsy.” Ariana is glad to be teaching these young kids. She loves to dance and is proud to show everyone the musical numbers. This musical is based off the story from the movie we all loved that came out in 1961. Dodie Smith based the original animated classic on the children’s story. This story involves the canine pets of a struggling composer, Roger, and his wife, Anita. Male dalmation is Pongo and female Dalmation is Perdita. Perdita ends up giving birth to fifteen puppies. The pups caught the attention of the scheming Cruella De Vil. Cruella demands that the dog’s owners sell her the puppies. The Dalmations owners show her the door instead. Somehow under the cover of night, Cruella gets her side kicks, Jasper and Horace, to steal the puppies. Over time it is

in Seussical the Musical.” McKenzy also performs with the Treble Makers when she is feeling up to it. We are happy to say she sang with the group on the field at the Blue Claws game with her family watching from the stands. McKenzy was also cast as Tiger Lily for Peter Pan last summer but had to drop out cause she hurt her ankle and couldn’t dance. The Treble Makers also sang God Bless America during the seventh inning stretch. Which brought luck to the Blue Claws. The Blue Claws kept the lead, scored a couple extra runs and won the game! All the kids and adults had a blast. It was the first time the O.G.P. Treble Makers ever got asked to sing at a baseball game. It was a great experience for all and they hope to be asked back next year. The Causeway Family of Dealerships always plan a trip to a Blue Claws game every year. This one was just a little more special then usual. The Hupke family gave a lot of thanks to Our Gang Player’s and Causeway for getting to spend a day out with no worries.

METICULOUS ATTENTION TO DETAIL

ELEVATES CRAFTSMANSHIP OF NEXT LINCOLN MKX

The center console was redesigned to improve functionality while elevating craftsmanship.

The armrest includes a two-button clamshell execution. This arrangement allows for one button to open only the flocked storage with the tray and the other to open the main bin, creating a versatile storage option.

• Overall quality is the top purchase reason for the Lincoln MKX, matching a study that shows 74 percent of wealthy consumers believe superior quality is a luxury product’s most important attribute • The new Lincoln MKX medium crossover, on sale this summer, reflects increased focus on attention to detail and improved craftsmanship in subtle executions • Advanced models along with a state-of-the-art virtual reality lab are complemented by Lincoln craftsmanship engineers who meticulously pore over vehicles Craftsmanship helps define the overall quality of any luxury product. Customers of the Lincoln MKX, for example, cite overall quality as their No. 1 purchase reason for the medium crossover. This desire is seen beyond automotive as well. A study by the Luxury Institute and Epsilon finds that 74 percent of wealthy consumers believe that superior quality is the most important attribute of a luxury product, followed by superior craftsmanship. The new Lincoln MKX, on sale this summer, elevates craftsmanship by subtly fusing form and function, sometimes in areas not immediately seen or felt by the customer.

“Craftsmanship sits between the worlds of engineering and design,” said Stacy Swank, Lincoln craftsmanship supervisor. “Our role is to bring those worlds together to enhance the experience for the customer. We like to think that if you don’t notice what’s been done, then we’ve done our job.” Some “hidden” improvements to the 2016 Lincoln MKX include: • Foam was added to the wrapped console side panels, providing a softer area for the leg to rest, and also added to the door armrests and steering wheel

To increase the crafted appearance, the gooseneck hinge arms that connect the armrest and clamshell tray to the hinge are hidden.

Throughout the interior, the smallest areas were upgraded to higher levels of craftsmanship. To create a cleaner appearance where the A-pillar meets the headliner, for example, a 2.5-mm indent (the thickness of a couple of dimes) was created on the inside of the joint. This allowed the materials to align better.

• Extra strength was added to the dead-pedal area – where a driver rests his/her left foot – to make the area more firm

Lincoln craftsmanship engineers review data at computer-aided-design stations, experience the vehicle in a virtual lab and pore over prototypes to help ensure quality. In the interior of the new Lincoln MKX, for example, there are more than 1,200 interfaces.

• Scuff materials in the door and tailgate were upgraded to stainless steel, which is more resistant to scratches and helps maintain a beautiful appearance

Reducing margins and eliminating sharp edges, cut lines, parting lines and visible fasteners – while using genuine wood and metal – drives fit and finish.

The 2016 Lincoln MKX offers available Bridge of Weir® Deepsoft leather, created specifically for Lincoln seating surfaces. Bridge of Weir Deepsoft leather goes through a 16-hour softening process, which is a considerably longer process than most automotive leathers. A hand-sewn and -stitched Wollsdorf® leather-wrapped steering wheel is available on higher-series vehicles.

“The data, the science and the math help ensure everything fits together correctly and address the tangible elements of quality,” said Swank. “Part of the role of the craftsmanship team is to address the intangible elements of quality – how the space makes you feel, your reaction when you get in and experience the vehicle.”

US POSTAL WORKER GOES TO THE MOON AND BACK BY SKIP MARTIS

MANAHAWKIN, NJ - I have sold thousands of cars in my long career. None were like the one I ordered for Joanna Czuber in January of 1996. It was a stick shift Ford Ranger Supercab Splash model. The color was even special. The name escapes me but it was like the color of raspberry sherbet!

You will receive a brand new 2015 Lincoln MKC to drive your Date for an evening as well as a $100.00 Visa Gift to buy your Date dinner and maybe even a Movie! Call 888-628-3515 to Schedule your Lincoln Date Night now! Ask for Rob or Wallace

I have tried over the years to sell her a new one, to only be rebuffed over and over again. Joanna would simply say “Not until I reach 500,000 miles!” Well in May of this year she hit that amazing milestone! Yes half a million miles! To put it in perspective Joanna has driven more than the equivalent of going to the Moon and back! How did that Ranger make it? Joanna faithfully serviced her truck at Causeway Ford with her favorite assistant Service Manager Pat McGee. She completely took advantage of our Free Oil and Filter change program!

From Google: How far is the moon? 238,855 miles At perigee — its closest approach — the moon comes as close as 225,623 miles (363,104 kilometers). At apogee — the farthest away it gets — the moon is 252,088 miles (405,696 km) from Earth. On average, the distance from Earth to the moon is about 238,855 miles (384,400 km).

Guess what she did once she arrives in Vincentown? She gets in her US Postal truck and drives all day! Now that she has reached her goal hopefully I might be able to pry her Ranger away and get her something newer! Joanna says maybe, but it would be kicking and screaming!

CROCKPOT

ROUNDUP Low Country Boil

Nothing says summer like a Low Country Boil. It has to be one of the most fun meals to eat. The combo of corn, shrimp, potatoes and sausage are unlike any other. You should have seen the girls’ faces when I started dumping the food onto the newspaper covered table. “Mommy!!!! What you are doing?!!!” The “cool factor” of being able to eat with our hands, off of newspaper, really enticed the girls to give this new recipe a try. Score! This Crockpot Low Country Boil is a perfect recipe to make for a group of friends this summer. So grab some newspaper, shrimp sauce , lemons, and have a blast! NOTE: You will need a 6-7 quart crockpot for this recipe. I used a 6 quart and it was filled to the brim! Ingredients: - 1.5 lbs small red potatoes (cut in half) - 5 cups of water - 1 bottle (12 oz) beer (you can also sub in broth) - 1/4 cup Old Bay Seasoning - 2 stalks celery, cut into 1-inch pieces

- 1 onion, cut into quarters - 3-4 garlic cloves, minced - 2 lemons, cut in half - 1 lb cooked kielbasa sausage, cut into 1-inch pieces - 4 fresh cobs of corn, cut into 3-inch chunks - 2 lb fresh, uncooked large shrimp in shells

Optional: Cocktail sauce, fresh lemon slices, Cajun seasoning Directions: 1. Start by spraying a 6 or 7 quart slow cooker with cooking spray. Add in water, beer, Old Bay Seasoning, and garlic. Stir until well combined. 2. Place potatoes, onion and celery in slow cooker and squeeze lemons over mixture in slow cooker. 3. Place lemon halves to slow cooker. 4. Cover the crockpot and cook on Low heat setting 4-5 hours. 5. Add sausage and corn, cover and cook 2 hours longer. 6. Increase heat setting to HIGH and add in your shrimp. Your crockpot will be very full, so do your best to stir a little and squeeze your shrimp in :) Cover and cook 30-40 minutes or until shrimp are pink. 7. Drain your Crockpot Low Country Boil using a large strainer. Serve this meal on a newspaper covered table for easy clean up. We enjoyed ours with cocktail sauce, fresh lemon and some Cajun seasoning.

Causeway is rolling out it’s 2015 Fresh Start Program to assist our customers and local residents that need a “Fresh Start”. We know bad things happen to good people. “The Fresh Start Program can help so many situations” says Corey Gellis General Sales Manager and creator of the Fresh Start Program. “Whether you have had a bankruptcy , foreclosure, low credit score, job loss, or divorce we can help”. Even if you have had a vehicle repossessed there is hope! The Fresh Start program utilizes all current technologies along with over 50 different lending sources. This assures that we will find the perfect consumer/lender match. Giving you the Fresh Start with your credit and allowing you to purchase the vehicle you need. Mr. Gellis has helped hundreds and hundreds of customers over the last 18 years at Causeway. “I have found so many of our customers get turned away at other dealerships before coming to us. They are told sorry we can’t help you or even worse they are ignored! We have always taken a compassionate approach with the understanding that everyone deserves a second chance!” Causeway is also prepared with additional special inventory just for this Fresh Start Program! “We have secured specific vehicles that our lenders prefer and work best with their approval programs” Says Joe Stroffolino Director of Vehicle Acquisitions. “We have even tried to address the needs of families by stocking Vans and compact SUV’s that the lenders like.” “We expect a large response to this Fresh Start Program. Our biggest concern is running low on the necessary vehicles needed for this Program. These vehicles will be available on a first come first approved bases. We recommend calling to schedule your no obligation Fresh Start consultation. If you choose, the option of immediate delivery is often available! Be prepared and bring items such as current pay stubs, Driver’s license, proof of insurance, a utility bill, payoff information if you have a trade in, and a method of a down payment if required by a lender. We will even payoff your trade no matter how much you owe! We have setup a special Fresh Start hotline.” Call 888-833-6024 and say “I want a Fresh Start”! A representative will schedule your consultation immediately.

Like a Good Neighbor...

DONNA STROFFOLINO

Lisa Patchell is a local State Farm agent on Route 9 North in Manahawkin next to the Napa Auto parts store. She has been with State Farm Insurance for over 20 years and 9 of those years have been as a State Farm agent in town.

30 YEARS EXPERIENCE!! And receive 10% off cut and color with this ad!*

From Lisa’s perspective:

What I enjoy about my profession is meeting with people, understanding their needs and building a plan for them. Hopefully, you never need the insurance. But if you do, I like to know I did the right thing for my clients in making sure they are properly covered. I’ve seen our claim reps work with my clients on settling house fires, I’ve delivered total loss auto checks to clients and sadly, death benefits for life insurance.

Originally a single line auto insurance company, State Farm now offers nearly 100 products and services, in five different lines of business, to help customers manage today and prepare for tomorrow. We write home, auto, business lines, life insurance and we’ve also had a bank since 1999. We show our commitment to our policyholders by handling nearly 35,000 claims per day. The history of State Farm not only demonstrates we do the right thing for our customers; we do the right thing for communities. We are heavily involved in and support communities through sponsorships, safety programs, education leadership, and servicelearning.

The difference with my agency and an 800 # is you can always speak with me or one of my 4 licensed team members and after my office closes at night, a customer service rep 24/7. You build a relationship with my office and know you can count on us. After Sandy, I held hands with my clients and helped them navigate through the claim process. When you have a devastating loss, it’s comforting to have someone you know help ease the pain just a little bit. If you come to my office, we hope to help you. We are honest in telling you if you should stay with what you have or we might offer suggestions for more appropriate coverages. Our goal is to help you manage your risks, reach your dreams and plan for your legacy. I love what I do and I expect the people who work for me to love it to. You deserve that as a policyholder so we strive to offer exceptional customer service each and every day.

Southern Ocean Medical Center News

Ask The Expert! Getting the Most out of Your Doctor’s Visit Of all the relationships you have in your lifetime, perhaps one of the most important is the one you have with your doctor. After all, you are entrusting your health – and sometimes your life – in their hands. The doctor-patient relationship is an important one, and the key to its success is good communication. According to Shannon Rittberg, D.O., a board certified family medicine physician at Southern Ocean Medical Center who has been in practice for over 10 years, “It’s important to be on the same page so you make the most of the time with your doctor.” So what should you do to get the most out of your doctor’s visit? Being prepared is one of the best things you can do to remain focused and make the visit more efficient so your doctor can give you more time and attention. First, be organized and concise. Be prepared to tell the doctor about symptoms or problems you are experiencing, how long they have been happening, and mention if they are better/worse when doing certain activities. Have a complete list of all the medications you are taking, including any herbal remedies or over-the-counter drugs. This includes medications or treatments that another physician or specialist may have prescribed. Also think about what will happen at the visit, and wear loose fitting clothing to make a physical exam easier. Finally,

accomplished. If you made an appointment for one or two problems, then dedicate that visit to those issues. All problems cannot be addressed in one visit, so if you have other concerns that arise, make a separate appointment for them. This way adequate time will be spent on your pressing health issue. Dr. Rittberg also suggests that you be open and honest with your doctor. Don’t wait until the very end of your visit to say, “By the way…” and then share some pertinent piece of information.

“Patients shouldn’t be afraid to talk about physical, social, or emotional problems they are experiencing,” says Dr. Rittberg. “These could be significant and impact a physician’s course of treatment.”

Communication is important on many levels. Good communication leads to better compliance and better care. For some patients, it may be beneficial to bring someone with you to the visit. Memory or hearing issues can be a barrier to effective communication, and if a patient is dealing with a serious issue, emotions can distract you. Having someone there to take notes and ask additional questions can be very helpful. The bottom line is that it takes a little bit of work to get the most out of your doctor’s visit, but it is well worth it. Preparation and communication are essential. Combined with your personal efforts to practice preventative care and lead a healthy lifestyle, you’ll be taking the right steps towards better health and wellness. If you or a loved one is looking for a primary care physician, call Meridian Health for a free physician referral at 1-800-560-9990.
