Penny is a self-taught artist who began creating jewelry in 2009. Her first designs highlighted an array of glass, crystals and semiprecious stones, but Penny’s love of metal art led the way to her specialization in chainmaille jewelry. In this technique, small metal rings are individually connected to form a specific weave. Catcophony, a play on cacophony, resulted from a love of cats and the inability to settle on only one technique for creating jewelry. The artisan uses both traditional and unconventional jewelry techniques to create wearable art from copper, silver, and brass. The use of a scrapbooking technique resulted in the ‘Watercolor’ earrings she created for celebrities and media at the GBK Oscars Gift Lounge. Tricia Samundsen Scentability Handcrafted Body Products & Home Fragrance Scentability.net Tricia Samundsen is a busy wife and mother to three young children, who recently resigned her Registered Nurse position to work on her business expansion. Scentability was started in 2009 as a result of Tricia’s passion for creating products that smell wonderful, and also have practical purposes, without breaking the bank. “Scents are very strongly entwined in our lives. It can enhance or change our moods, trigger fond memories, and sometimes, in the case of aromatherapy, help to alleviate symptoms of physical illnesses,” says Tricia. She loves putting her nursing background to work formulating recipes to fit diverse skin types and also to help relieve the symptoms of many skin issues.

Hoshii Designs burst into existence in 2011 when Deborah Hosaki found herself between working contracts. With some extra time on her hands she decided to go back to her creative interests and opened shop with a collection of sewn purses, scarves, obi belts, and other accessories. Deborah focuses on using renewable, sustainable, and earth-kind materials. Her current collection includes articles made from unprocessed wool felt, recycled leather, reclaimed vintage fabrics, jewelry, buttons and other pre-loved items.

Fen Li gets compliments from others when they see her beaded flowers. Her work is meticulous but patience is a different matter. Fen discovered French beaded flowers while in college and has been working in this old world art form for ten years. Her typical Asian parents urged her to study. Defiant, she beaded clandestinely… gathering up her beads when she heard them coming home from work. After receiving much recognition through media features for her work, Fen can now bead in the open.

MOTHERBORED, founded by Michelle McLaughlin, is a mother of one, but bored no more. Saved from their demise at your local landfill, Michelle recycles desktoplaptop computers into beautiful unique jewelry and accessories. All salvaged computers have colorful motherboards awaiting her discovery! Using as much as possible from the computers, she leaves little to no scrap trail behind for an eco-friendly product. Each piece is made solely by her, from start to finish, while no two pieces are alike.

When Erin was a young girl, she wanted to be a superhero. Or a supervillain. She hadn’t decided. Whilst saving the world in her Underoos, she spent about five minutes on an assortment of crafts then moved on to the next adventure. Eventually, she found metalworking. It was the perfect union of so many things she loved—science, artistry, brute force, and danger.

Tenisha Proctor launched her small business, Designs by Tenisha on Etsy in early 2011. Since then she’s gone from selling a few greeting cards to expanding the business, which now includes: party favors and decoration, art prints, and more.

While studying graphic design in college, Tenisha created an invitation in the shape of a favorite childhood activity, a “cootie catcher.” Since then she has taken the same template design and now creates custom versions for any event, including weddings, birthdays, baby showers, and holidays.

Sew Beastly is a brand created by Citlalli Sanchez, a self-taught artist with a handmade dream. The brand focuses on sustainability by creating everyday handmade accessories from eco-friendly and recycled fabrics. Her newest collection, Scrap Me Pretty, features leftover scraps that are given a new life. Citlalli continues to work and grow into her handmade dream and to this day enjoys walking around with thread on her pants, and she knows it’s only the beginning.

Kharisma Sommers is the artist behind Popnicute (pop-knee-cute) Artisan Jewelry. She is a self-taught jewelry designer with a degree in Visual Communication Design. Kharisma was born and raised in Indonesia, where the culture helped develop her artistic taste. Evoking both Eastern and Western influences, her collections appeal to buyers around the world in over thirty countries. She now lives in Quincy, IL, with her husband. Popnicute was named Favorite Handmade Jewelry Artisan in About.com’s 2011 Reader’s Choice Awards.

Sarah Struett’s enthusiasm for hand-crafted dog products began in 2007 when she first became the lucky mother of a Labrador retriever named Leila. Struett, a teacher from Michigan, started Four Black Paws in 2010 by combining her dogged passion for her pets with a courageous dose of entrepreneurial spirit. Since then, her passion has exploded onto the web with her online store, Four Black Paws, a one-stop virtual pet-shop that offers custom-made pet products ranging from collars and toys to bed covers and key fobs.

Carla Thomas traded her cornfield landscape for the Florida beaches in college, studying business at Florida Atlantic University.

Gives Back

The Artisan Group donates to several worthy charities every year, targeting the aid of children, animals, and the environment. Our mission is to help create awareness and to raise funds for many valuable ongoing programs. Our members generously donate products from their shoppes, and we as a group then donate our exclusive swag bags full of handcrafted products, valued at over $800, to these charities to auction off during their fundraising efforts. We’re pleased to announce our gift bags were auctioned off for thousands of dollars to help these worthy charities. We recently participated in annual fundraising events hosted by The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Columbia Basin, Summit Animal Rescue Association, National MS Society, and Let’s Move Together Arthritis Foundation.
