health & wealth magazine for AIM Members Living Well High Blood Sugar? AIM’s Natural Solutions • AIM GlucoChrom™ • AIM BarleyLife® • AIM FibreBalance® (CAN) • AIMega® November 2011 theaimcompanies.com Executive Message / Contacts 2011 Moving Forward has been a continuation of the challenging times we live in. During such times, we must keep our footing and strive to overcome doubt. Hope and faith keep us moving forward. Times are changing, and we are in transition. People will look to simplify their lives. They will gravitate toward products and companies that are tried and true. The best example I can give you is The AIM Companies™. AIM whole-food supplements can help you stay strong and healthy and, in turn, you can share them with your family and friends. AIM’s business compensation plan can add to your income. Build your own AIM business to secure your future. Of course, the actual results—$1,000, $2,000, or more a month—depend on you and factors such as hard work, creativity, and time spent. I know AIM supplements have made a huge difference in my life and in the lives of my children, Patrick and Kathleen, and their families. We are all much healthier as a result and rarely ever ill. In fact, I believe that the use of supplements has prevented me from being a diabetic like my mother (see page 5). I cannot stop sharing the gift of AIM, and I am thankful for the opportunity to help others. Thanksgiving is just around the corner in the USA (November 24), and in Canada we recently celebrated this holiday (October 10). We have much to be thankful for—health, the opportunity to expand your income, and The AIM Companies to provide only the BEST. If we all did the things we are capable of, we would astound ourselves. ~Thomas Edison Rose Bird Chartered Herbalist and General Manager of AIM Canada™ USA – HOW TO REACH US Web/online orders: www.theaimcompanies.com E-mail: email@example.com International inquiries: firstname.lastname@example.org Weekday hours: 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. MT TELEPHONE NUMBERS Member Sales and Service Center . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1-800-456-2462 Orders, applications, renewals, order research, returns . . . . . . . . . . This contest, exclusive to Seattle convention attendees, ends December 31. November 2011 3 Main Feature High Blood Sugar? The following facts are from the World Health Organization (WHO): • 346 million people worldwide have diabetes • In 2004, an estimated 3.4 • • million people died from consequences of high blood sugar Deaths from diabetes will double between 2005 and 2030 Healthy diet, regular physical activity, maintaining a normal body weight, and avoiding tobacco use can prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes The last fact says so much because tests that indicate high blood sugar do not mean that type 2 diabetes will surely follow. Although some risk factors for this disease cannot be changed, such as family history, ethnicity, aging, or a history of pre-diabetes, the above lifestyle changes can reduce your risk. You can also take supplemental steps to reduce high blood sugar (glucose) levels, and AIM has just what you need to do so. AIM GlucoChrom™ At the top of the list is AIM GlucoChrom™—a synergistic combination of two trace minerals— chromium and vanadium—and two herbs— Gymnema sylvestre leaf extract and bitter melon fruit. All four ingredients work together to maintain healthy blood sugar levels by increasing the effective action of insulin. Insulin is secreted by the pancreas when the body detects a rise in blood sugar. After insulin attaches to the surface of a cell, blood sugar can be absorbed into the cell and used for energy. Type 2 diabetes is a disease that occurs when the body cannot effectively use insulin, so high levels of sugar remain in the blood, causing chronic inflammation. Insulin simply does not work without the presence of chromium, the trace mineral that gives GlucoChrom its name. The requirement of chromium for insulin was discovered by 4 theaimcompanies.com I 1-800-456-2462 accident in the 1970s when hospital patients developed high blood sugar from being fed intravenously. Since chromium was already known to be required for insulin action in animals, it was added to the patients’ feeding solutions, correcting their blood sugar issues. Believed to activate insulin receptors, vanadium—the second trace mineral in GlucoChrom— improves systemic responsiveness to glucose (insulin sensitivity), so it helps to promote a healthy reduction of blood sugar levels. Gymnema has been used in India as a natural, Ayurvedic remedy to treat diabetes for nearly 2,000 years. In fact, one of the many names of this woody, climbing plant is gurmar, which translates from Hindi as the destroyer of sugar. Chewing on gymnema leaves can reduce sugar cravings. This herb is noted for lowering blood sugar levels and stimulating insulin secretion, so it is an ideal leaf extract for the GlucoChrom formula. The second herb in GlucoChrom comes from the fruit of the bitter melon (Momordica charantia), which has been shown to lower high levels of blood sugar (hypoglycemic properties). “The advantage of bitter melon is that there are no known side effects,” stated Dr. Jiming Ye, a scientist at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research in Australia. “Practitioners of Chinesemedicine have used it for hundreds of years to good effect.” AIM GlucoChrom™ For increasing the effective action of insulin, which regulates blood sugar, add GlucoChrom to your supplemental choices. And if you are trying to shed some pounds, this natural health product also supports weight loss by metabolizing both carbohydrates and fats. Daily Essentials The World Health Organization recognizes a healthy diet as a way to prevent diabetes, and a healthy diet requires greens, essential fatty acids (EFAs), and fiber—the Daily Essentials. Our diets and food supply are deficient in nutrients, so supplementing with greens from AIM BarleyLife®, EFAs from AIMega®, and fiber from AIM Herbal Fiberblend® or AIM FibreBalance® can improve overall health. AIM offers a choice of four Daily Essentials packs—priced to save you money (see the Price List and Order Form for product combinations). In 2003, I was diagnosed with high blood sugar by my doctor, so a glucose tolerance test was recommended. Upon completion of the test, the doctor wanted me to go to a class for diabetic instruction in what and how to eat, but I didn’t go or take any of his prescribed medication. I found out from research that chromium is necessary for insulin to work, and so in 2004 I started to use GlucoChrom, which I continue to use. All of my annual blood tests have shown that my diabetes is under control. I gave a datasheet to my doctor, who is a diabetic, and even though he agreed that Glucochrom worked for me, he wouldn’t try it because it wasn’t recommended by the American Medical Association. That’s his choice, but I’m convinced that I have the best possible solution for controlling type 2 diabetes. Robert L. Ianson, AIM Group Builder Dade City, Florida Testimonials should not be construed as representing results everybody can achieve. In 1992, my health care practitioner informed me that my blood tests indicated that I could become a diabetic like my mother. She suggested medication of course, but I decided there had to be a better way—a natural solution to lowering my blood sugar levels. Besides, I had witnessed several members of my family battle lifethreatening illnesses with prescription drugs that lowered the quality of their lives. After some research, I was able to naturally lower my blood sugar levels in only three months—no drugs. The experience was a major turning point in my life for I eventually moved into natural health care as a career focus. When I joined AIM in 1999, a large piece of the supplemental puzzle completed the picture, and I have never looked back. To this day, I maintain a daily regime of AIM products, which continue to keep me in good health. At the top of the list for keeping diabetes at bay are GlucoChrom and my Daily Essentials—AIM BarleyLife®, AIMega®, and AIM FibreBalance® (AIM Herbal Fiberblend® in the US). His game just happens to be the National Senior Games where Jim is a multiple gold-medal winner. Here he explains his latest exploits at the Texas Senior Games and Houston’s National Senior Games. “I just returned home from Texas where I competed in the Texas Senior Games at Bryan/ College Station. I raced in the 1,500-meter and 5-kilometer race-walks and the 5-kilometer and 10-kilometer runs in the 70-to-75 age group. I won them all. “I came in first overall among all age groups in three of the four races, and I brought home four 6 theaimcompanies.com I 1-800-456-2462 gold medals from the Texas meet. I then went to Comstock, Texas—with twenty-five-tothirty mile per hour winds and temperatures over 100 degrees—to train for the National Senior Games which took place the following month in Houston. “At the nationals, I won the gold medal in the 1,500-meter race-walk, beating my own best time by over fifty seconds. The following morning, I ran a 5-kilometer race at 7:00 a.m., coming in third. Two hours later, at 9:00 a.m., I walked a 5-kilometer race-walk, winning the gold in my age group and coming in sixth overall out of a group of people from age fifty to 100. “It is a great blessing to have won the 2011 National Senior Championship in race-walk and third in the nation in the 5-kilometer run. I worked hard training, prayed Isaiah 40:31 as I trained, and took AIM BarleyLife® and AIM Peak Endurance® to maximize my recovery. “And I don’t plan on stopping any time soon. Someone said after the recent races that I could sit back and relax. No, I have many races to compete in and am registering for the New Jersey Senior Games, which come up this fall. “So, I continue to train. “When training, I take up to five table spoons of BarleyLife during the day with Peak Endurance before and after a workout. I also take both products between races when the races are back to back. In addition, I also drink AIM ProPeas® for extra protein, usually in a raw veggie-and-fruit smoothie or blended salad.” For more information and updates from Jim, visit his MyAIMStore site at myaimstore. com/sherryjoandjimhorton. Radio Program Carolyn Kling Aging Outside the Box® AIM Chairman’s Club Director Carolyn Kling appeared on “Aging Outside the Box®” Syndicated Radio Show on August 18 to share her testimony of health and wealth. Carolyn and her husband Jim were principal founders of AIM and recently reached the Seven Million Dollar Club in earnings through their AIM business. During the Aging Outside the Box program, Carolyn detailed her experiences, starting thirty years ago with the founding of The AIM Companies™ and the first barley leaf juice to present day with her role as one of the leading business builders in the history of The AIM Companies. Throughout the hourlong segment, Carolyn weaved testimonies of better health through AIM nutrition, opportunity, and success. “Jim saw that this product was outstanding,” said Carolyn, as she recounted the origins of their BarleyLife history, “and he found people that were taking it who were getting well. One lady with extreme arthritis threw her walker away; another lady had cancer and her doctor wrote a note on a prescription pad that said radiation and barley had put her cancer in remission. So we just went from there.” Carolyn and Jim quit their real estate business in Nampa, Idaho, to pursue the AIM opportunity full time. Their passion for the products was key to building a strong business. “We wanted to share with everyone we met,” Carolyn said. “We had a three-foot rule where if you got within three feet, and we had an opportunity, we were going to tell you about having better health. “We got inspired to help people. We saw testimonies of people getting well and getting healthy with our green leaf powder. So we decided that we had a story to tell and we needed to share it with as many people as we could around the world.” Aging Outside the Box host Shirley Mitchell described Carolyn’s business as a “roaring bonfire.” Carolyn shared tips from her book, Turning Green Into Gold. Written in 2000 with help from Carolyn’s daughter, AIM Star Sapphire Director Cathy McCrea, the book covers the Kling’s business experiences and business plans with the hope of inspiring others to reach the same heights. “I don’t know of anything more important that you can give someone than to give them a better way of life and a better quality of health.” November 2011 7 Main Feature / New Product CranVerry erry++ AIM ™ CranVerry is Back and Better than Ever! After being gone from the product lineup for two years, AIM CranVerry has returned. And its time away was time well spent. AIM CranVerry™+, the new cranberry extract product from The AIM Companies™, features the outstanding benefits of all-natural cranberries clinical studies for more than 12 years (AIM uses CranMax® as the source for its cranberry extract). A recent study has shown that the amount of CranMax cranberry extract in one capsule of CranVerry+ has the equivalent anthocyanin content of seven eightounce glasses of cranberry juice. CranVerry+’s other calling card is its ability to combat Candida yeast infections. While Candida on its own is usually not harmful to the body, an overabundance can cause a myriad of health concerns, including fatigue, weight gain, and toxification. We are at increased risk for Candida overgrowth due to the prevalence of processed foods in modern diets, the increased use of antibiotics, and the rise in obesity and diabetes. Along with cranberry extract, the second ingredient in CranVerry+, resveratrol, which studies have shown, disrupt Candida’s ability to become pathogenic in the body. Resveratrol is a naturally-occurring phytonutrient that occurs in several plants. Research completed in 2007 noted that the fungicidal effects of resveratrol demonstrated its potential as an antifungal agent. Derived from Japanese knotweed, the resveratrol extract in CranVerry+ is standardized to 50 percent trans-resveratrol. The trans refers to the orientation and, therefore, the stability of the functional aspects of each resvertrol molecule. The third ingredient in CranVerry+, mango steen fruit concentrate is a 20:1 concentration of the superfruit and includes the whole fruit, including the rind, which contains active components that belong to a group of xanthones (plant phenols). Studies have shown that xanthones have a wide scope of anti bacterial activity and kill Candida within twenty minutes of exposure. To understand this enzyme’s role in the battle with Candida, it is important to understand how biofilms and infections occur in the body. Biofilms are used by microorganisms as a way to remain adhered to surfaces inside the body. Up to 60 percent of human infections are attributed to biofilm, due to its role as a protective shield that enhances the survival and reproduction of microorganisms. Candida albicans, a pathogenic species asso ciated with candidiasis, secretes beta-glucans within the biofilms, and these beta-glucans are believed to contribute to Candida’s resistance to drug therapy. The enzyme beta-glucanase found in CranVerry+ is a carbohydrate enzyme that breaks the bonds within beta-glucans. This breakdown reduces the viability of the biofilm thus weakening C. albicans’ resistance to drug therapy. This can lessen the symptoms related to a Candida infection. This unique and powerful combination of phytonutrients and enzymes provides CranVerry+ with the weapons it needs to inhibit urinary tract and Candida infections. After two years out of the AIM product lineup, CranVerry+ is ready to make a bold return. Welcome it back, and give your urinary health a boost. Product Feature SP ReAssure AIM One of the hormonal changes a middle-aged or older man can go through may result in an enlarged prostate—a condition known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Environ mental factors, such as diet, may also trigger BPH, but its exact cause is unknown. An enlarged prostate compresses the urethra and affects the flow of urine from the bladder. Some of the symptoms1 of BPH include: Frequent urination Unable to postpone urination Delay in starting to urinate Weak urinary stream – straining Intermittent stream – stopping and starting Incontinence (loss of urinary control) Painful urination Blood in urine Inability to empty bladder (acute urinary retention) Diseases such as prostatitis, bladder stones, bladder cancer, and prostate cancer can also produce some of these symptoms, so seeing a health care practitioner is necessary for an accurate evaluation. Depending on the severity of BPH symptoms, a variety of treatments may be suggested, including drug therapy, surgical approach, and minimally invasive procedures1. Taking AIM ReAssure® SP is a natural way to prevent— for men forty and older—or relieve the symptoms of mild to moderate BPH. Its unique, synergistic combination of natural ingredients can help to keep your prostate healthy. Each 2-capsule serving of ReAssure SP contains 320 mg of saw palmetto berry oil extract, 240 mg of pumpkin seed oil, 15 mg of zinc citrate, and 5 mg of lycopene. Scientific research shows that saw palmetto produces “similar improvement in urinary tract symptoms and urinary flow ... with fewer adverse treatment events2” • • • • • • • • • ® when compared with finasteride—the commonly prescribed drug that has possible side effects (such as impotence, decreased sex drive, and male breast cancer). Instead of the less-effective berry powder, AIM uses only the beneficial berry oil extract from the saw palmetto. Pumpkin seed oil improves bladder function and urinary flow, while reducing the frequency of night-time urination. Healthy prostate cells accumulate “the highest level of zinc of any soft tissue in the body”3, so ReAssure SP also provides zinc citrate. Rounding out the formula, lycopene is a carotenoid antioxidant that may hinder the growth of prostate cancer cells. ReAssure SP—a natural way to a healthy prostate. See the datasheet for more details. I started using ReAssure SP as soon as it came out. What a difference it has made in comfort and ability to urinate. I had tried other saw palmetto products at the urging of my physician and chiropractor, but using our AIM product made a positive impact. I wouldn’t be without it. The show was a huge success for them, and Joanne wrote an article about it that will be published in the next issue of Health Headlines. Extracted from that article are the following five tips for your own success: 1) Advertise that you will have a booth at the trade show, farmer’s market, or other venue, and place an ad in publications that are promoting the event. Contact your local paper to see if they would like to do an article about your BarleyLife business. 2) Keep your booth simple by using canisters of BarleyLife along with posters and datasheets. Display sales items, such as Nutrition That Works insulated grocery bags, Healthy Cell Concept DVDs, and hand blenders. Play an AIM DVD or make up a slide show with pictures of BarleyLife, barley grass, etc. for people to watch. Hand out BarleyLife Sample Packs and datasheets along with your business cards. 3) Advertise a “special price” for event purchases only. Make BarleyLife gift bags— for example, a canister of BarleyLife, a datasheet, and a measuring spoon. Staple your business card to the outside of the bag. 4) Ask if it would be all right to contact people who purchase BarleyLife in “a week or two” so that they expect and welcome your follow-up call—keep them short and sweet! 5) When speaking to people about BarleyLife, explain alkalinity and how important it is for good health. Most people are unaware that disease will thrive in an acidic environment but will not survive in an alkaline one. This really helps to get the point across as to why BarleyLife is important for optimal health. Joanne and Wayne know that there are many people out there that need their help and the help of the AIM products. BarleyLife and the other AIM products shouldn’t be a secret. And by keeping it simple with BarleyLife, you’ll be surprised at your own success! The stress increases, and soon you are losing sleep, which further compromises your health. AIM Composure® can make a huge difference in getting you back on track because let’s face it: life requires a great deal of composure. It’s healthier to remain calm when facing hardships, but sometimes you could use a little help. Instead of turning to synthetic pharmaceuticals with possible side effects and addictive substances, reach for Composure—a blend of natural herbs known to help you to relax and sleep soundly. The herbs selected for the Composure formula were carefully chosen. For example, the choice of passionflower was based on a long history of documented use to relieve muscle tension and calm anxiety, which contributes to getting a good night’s sleep. Early explorers to the Americas were introduced to the relaxing benefits of this herb by Native Americans. Today, passionflower is considered a sleep aid in monographs published by Canada’s National Heath Products Directorate and the European Medicines Agency. For those nights when you lie in bed worrying, passionflower is just one of the herbs in Composure that helps you to put your mind at ease and drift off to sleep. (Note: US and Canada have different formulations.) Let Composure get you back on track, and if you haven’t done so already, begin adding a few lifestyle changes, such as a healthier diet, regular exercise, and quality times with friends or family. Such changes are also natural ways to reduce stress and relax. Without Composure, I don’t know what I would have done. My husband Charles has dementia and giving him two capsules of Composure (NPN 80007112) in the morning and three at night relieved his frustrations during the day and helped him to sleep at night. I was able to keep him at home for five years instead of the three months that doctors had predicted before needing to put him in a care facility. I hope this helps others who are dealing with dementia. I take Composure as well and could not have done without it. Katrina and Charles Windels, AIM Directors Creston, British Columbia I have been using Composure for many years as a sleep aid. Depending on what the day has been like, I take 2-3 capsules about half an hour before bed. They work wonderfully; I relax and sleep soundly. When I awaken, I am refreshed with no fogginess or lethargy. Nancy Kipp, AIM Director Littleton, Colorado Testimonials should not be construed as representing results everybody can achieve.
