Timeless Traditions

THE BLIZZARD One of the most unique traditions in college basketball, the Blizzard began in 1985 when students brought “Tech Squares” — squares of toilet paper stocked in the dormitory bathrooms — and threw it into the air after the first successful shot made by the Golden Eagles against rival Middle Tennessee State. The annual tradition continued for many years, and it was always performed when MTSU visited The Hoop. When Tech’s biggest rivals left the OVC for the Sun Belt Conference, the tradition waned, but a significant movement to restore it has taken place on campus over the past several years. Last year, the Blizzard rained down on Tennessee State in a February game at Eblen Center. 2 0 1 2 -1 3 G O L D E N E A G L E B A S K E T B A L L
