Sunday, October 28, 12:00 pm Temple Menorah

During the past year, the Social Action Committee, under the direction of Gail Rodkin, committee chair, has been focused on making the Committee a more vital and integral part of the Temple Menorah family. We are striving to create events that both benefit and connect with our three core areas of interest: the synagogue community, our local community, and the Israeli community.

foster kids need your voice! Educational Advocacy Training October 14, 2012 at 1pm Nearly three quarters of children in foster care currently perform below grade level, and nearly half have been held back in school. Forty-six per cent of foster youth fail to complete high school, compared with 16% of non-foster youth. Once they leave the foster care system, typically around age 18, more than half of foster youth are unemployed, almost a third will become homeless, and one in five will be incarcerated within two years. To addresses this need the CLCC Children’s Advocate program trains individuals to serve as a child’s advocate at their schools to ensure the requirements of the child’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) are being met and that their education needs are being taken care of. Join us and make a difference in the life of a child! For further information on how to support these projects, contact: SocialAction@templemenorah.org.
