2 012-13 GAME-BY-GAME RECAPS TCU 67, MISS. VALLEY STATE 64 Fort Worth, Texas (Daniel-Meyer Coliseum) Dec. 30, 2012

FORT WORTH — TCU led by double digits early before having to force a late rally on its way to a 67-64 victory over Mississippi Valley State. The Frogs scored seven of the game’s final nine points in the comeback win. The Frogs led by as many as 12 points but saw their edge evaporate late as MVSU cranked its game up to another level. A 6-0 run gave TCU a 56-47 lead with 9:34 remaining, but MVSU scored 15 of the game’s next 19 points to move ahead inside the final three minutes. The Frogs went cold from the floor during the stretch, as the Devils held the squad without a field goal and to only four foul throws for nearly eight full minutes. A Darryl Marshall layup gave MVSU its first lead of the game at 62-60 with 2:24 to play, but TCU responded with its late surge. Adrick McKinney came up with two huge plays down low on back-to-back TCU possessions, first tying the game with a layup off an assist from Kyan Anderson. McKinney then gave the Frogs the lead for good with a tip-in off a missed layup by Garlon Green with 35 seconds left. GAME NOTES 4TCU finished non-conference with a 9-4 record, its best mark (.692) since going 10-4 (.714) in regular-season non-league games in 2004-05. 4TCU erased a second-half deficit for the sixth time in a win this season. 4Garlon Green recorded his 400th career rebound. 4Adrick McKinney scored in double figures for the fourth time in the last five games and led TCU on the glass for the sixth time in the last seven contests.

TEXAS TECH 62, TCU 53

Fort Worth, Texas (Daniel-Meyer Coliseum) Jan. 5, 2013 FORT WORTH — TCU staged a late comeback attempt but fell short, dropping a 62-53 decision to Texas Tech in its inaugural Big 12 game. TCU trailed the Red Raiders by 16 points with just over five minutes remaining before rallying. The Frogs scored 12 of the game’s next 13 points to climb to within five inside the final minute, but the squad was unable to get any closer. Tech closed the game out at the free-throw line, going 2-for-2 on successive trips inside the final 35 seconds to hold off the Frogs. Devonta Abron led TCU with a game-high 16 points, while he added seven rebounds and a career-high four blocked shots. Abron paired with Adrick McKinney to give the Frogs a physical presence inside against the Red Raiders. TCU posted a 35-30 rebounding edge, its second-largest of the season, while pulling down a season-best 17 offensive boards. GAME NOTES 4TCU fell to 42-49 all-time in conference season openers. The squad has dropped its last three openers. 4TCU was outshot from the floor for only the fourth time this season. The squad is now 0-4 in such contests. 4TCU fell to 5-2 when outrebounding the opponent. The Frogs’ 17 offensive rebounds marked a season high. 4Adrick McKinney and Devonta Abron started together for the first time this season. 4TCU matched its team season high of seven blocked shots. Abron set a career high with four blocks, matching the most for a Frog since 2006-07.

RV/ RV OKLAHOMA ST. 63, TCU 45 Stillwater, Okla. (Gallagher-Iba Arena) Jan. 9, 2013

STILLWATER, Okla. — Garlon Green scored a game-high 20 points, including the 1,000th of his career, but Oklahoma State proved to be too much on its home court, downing the Horned Frogs by a 63-45 count. Green reached the 20-point plateau for the third time in the past five games, making 8-of-15 shots from the field. TCU needed Green’s efforts, as the rest of the squad struggled on the offensive end for much of the evening. The squad finished the contest shooting only 36.2% from the floor overall while committing a seasonhigh 21 turnovers. Kyan Anderson joined Green in double figures with 10 points. OSU took an early lead and never looked back, running out to a 36-22 advantage at intermission after leading by as many as 17 points in the opening half. The Frogs struggled to find their offense in the first period, with the exception of Green, who totaled 14 points in the frame. TCU shot only 33.3% from the floor in the stanza, while the Cowboys had no such problems, scoring at a 61.9% clip. GAME NOTES 4Garlon Green led TCU in scoring for the team-high fifth time with a game-high 20 points. It marked the seventh time in his career, and his fourth game this season, with at least 20 points. 4Three of Green’s 20-plus point efforts have come in the last five contests. 4Green became the 31st TCU player with 1,000 career points and the 20th with 1,000 points and 400 rebounds on a jumper late in the first half. 4TCU forced a season-high 24 turnovers.
