As such, the areas of investigation in HTA include cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hypertension, infectious diseases, including HIV/ AIDS, hepatitis, malaria, vaccines. The methods of investigation and the correspondent reports include primary research (clinical trials, as the PREVER study and cohorts, as the ELSA study, and cross-sectional surveys), reviews, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, health economics, tele medicine and ethics. Most projects have additional funding, but are conducted under the perspective of HTA. Summary of achievements and perspectives Currently IATS hás 77 investigators from nine Institutions presented above. In addition to the investigations on the way, the main activity of the Institute was oriented to the preparation of investigators and collaborators of IATS. Courses of management of STATA and TreeAgee and of metaanalysis were offered. The Seminar of Health Economics and the Scholl of Advanced Studies were the mains initiatives. The first, led by CPES-São Paulo, is already a traditional seminar and was supported by IATS both in financial support and in the participation of IATS investigators. The School of Advanced Studies took place in Porto Alegre between June

28 and July 2nd. A total of 105 participants, including 4 international speakers (David Banta, França, Joseph Mathew, Anushua Sinha, EUA, Ursula Rochau, Áustria), IATS investigators and graduate students participated. Seminars and conferences addressed methodological issues in systematic reviews, meta-analyses, primary research, modeling, economics and ethics. Proposals of transference of HTA technologies to the administrative and clinical settings were specifically presented and discussed. The Seminar was also funded by CAPES. A detailed report of the Seminar is being prepared. Investigations in collaboration between centers and consultation to governmental institutions and health services have been provided. The site of IATS has regularly presented analytical appraisals of the scientific literature and occasionally has granted access to original contributions of the investigators of the IATS.
