The world has become a vast dried out planet, where the growing of cotton, over exploited for economical reasons is the main cause of desertification. A saline desert covers acres of dried out land where strange salt trees appear. This phenomenon echoes an even greater ecological disaster, the desertification of the Aral Sea. And man is always responsible... Maa on muuttunut valtavaksi kuivuneeksi planeetaksi. Aavikoitumisen pääsyynä on taloudellisista syistä tapahtuva puuvillan riistokasvatus. Suolaaavikko kattaa hehtaareittain kuivaa maata, jonne ilmestyy outoja suolapuita. Ilmiö heijastelee vieläkin suurempaa ympäristökatastrofia, Aral-järven kuivumista. Ja ihminen on aina syypää.

The breeze of the wind that crosses my face, which crosses your face, the bullet in the head, the blood stuck in the roof. How to return to look at the history? How to go back? I was born the year 1979, six years after the military coup in Chile. I grew with the dictatorship in the arms of my mother. She told me that paradoxically it was the period in which she was happier. She was behind a wall, protected from everything. As soon as I grew, my mother realized that there is not another period in Chile of so long and sharp (acute) precariousness and vulnerability of life, I am a part of this history, contradiction flood. Tuuli joka puhaltaa kasvojeni yli, joka puhaltaa sinun kasvojesi yli, luoti päässä, veritahrat katolla. Kuinka palata katsomaan historiaa? Kuinka mennä takaisin? Synnyin vuonna 1979, kuusi vuotta Chilen sotilasvallankaappauksen jälkeen. Kasvoin diktatuurissa, äitini sylissä. Hän kertoi, että paradoksaalista kyllä, se oli aikaa, jolloin hän oli onnellisempi. Hän oli muurin takana, suojassa kaikelta. Vartuttuani äitini ymmärsi, ettei Chilessä ole ollut toista yhtä pitkää ja ankaraa epävarmuuden ja haavoittuvuuden aikaa. Minä olen osa tuota historiaa, ristiriitojen tulvaa.

After filming More and More in 1993, I had to shoot Less and Less, my 40th film, in 2010. In 14 minutes it evokes the development and expansion from 1968 to 2010, of the funny devices based on computers, automats, interactive terminals and other objects that can be found everywhere, and their consequences upon unemployment. Kuvattuani vuonna 1993 elokuvan Toujours plus oli minun vuonna 2010 kuvattava myös Toujours moins, 40. elokuvani. 14 minuutissa se tuo esille sen kehityksen ja määrällisen kasvun, jota kaikkialla käytettävien, hassujen tietokoneisiin perustuvien laitteiden, automaattien, interaktiivisten päätteiden ja muiden vastaavien koneiden piirissä on tapahtunut vuodesta 1968 vuoteen 2010, sekä näiden laitteiden vaikutukset työttömyyteen.
