13. THE ROLE OF PHARMACISTS’ ORDER IN THE ALBANIAN PHARMACEUTICAL SYSTEM

Abstract The pharmaceutical system has two main directions; firstly the drug, for which it is responsible from the production to the consumption, and secondly the necessary services in order to maintain and ensure the quality, safety and efficacy of the drug. The main objective of the Pharmaceutical system is to protect the patients’ health. Pharmacists should have the main role in the pharmaceutical system, in order to achieve this objective. Their role in the pharmaceutical system is unique, but also the whole health care system cannot be understood without the contribution of the pharmacists. Pharmacy professionals during exercising their profession should meet ethical and deontological norms in order to protect the profession and the professionals. This attribute gained during thousands of years in our profession, today in the most countries of the world is organized from Professional Orders. Pharmacists’ Order of Albania is the well-organized public entity for pharmacists in Albania. This public institution was established by Law no. 9150, dated 30.10.2003, “On the Order of Pharmacists in the Republic of Albania”, but started to work from 1 January
2006. Today is an important actor and plays an important role in the Albanian pharmaceutical system Pharmacists’ Order of Albania in order to guarantee the quality of pharmaceutical services, and also its continuous improvement, has as a main objective: the professional training for pharmaceutical personnel and the fulfilling of their needs for continuing education. And also being an active part of different working groups, administrative boards of various health institutions etc., give concrete opinions in order to improve pharmaceutical system. The consolidation of professional orders will be done only with the contribution of all pharmacists. This can be realized by appreciating and loving the profession in the highest degree, loving and respecting all colleagues and also trusting and supporting to their professional orders. The common future of all health professionals is the establishment, consolidation and cooperation between all professional orders within the country as well as those in the region and beyond.
