p o r t f o l i o : r e c r e a t i o n f a c i l i t i e s Westside Community Recreation Center p r o j e c t Westside Imagined as an oasis at the edge of the Chihuahuan Community Recreation Center, El Paso a r c h i t e c t Parkhill, Desert, the Westside Community Recreation Center Smith & Cooper d e s i g n t e a m Hector De Santiago, AIA; Eric Perea, Assoc. AIA within the Three Hills (Mulberry Dam) Park in El Paso General Contractors acts as a gateway to hiking the adjacent undeveloped c o n s u l t a n t s Schrickel, Rollins & Associates (landscape); Parkhill terrain. Designed by Parkhill, Smith & Cooper in col- Smith & Cooper (irrigation, structural, civil, MEP) laboration with Shrickel, Rollins & Associates, the p h o t o g r a p h e r Geof 21,200-sf recreation center and associated outdoor c o n t r a c t o r SamCorp Harral 6 5 amenities, budgeted at $5,857,000, are the first phase fences , gates and hardware : of the master plan. Sited on a remnant parcel of flood Mesa Fence; recreational facility and playground equipment: Landscape control land, the project includes a gym, basketball and Structures (Exerplay); r e s o u r c e s concrete pavement : Cemex; Totturf (Exerplay); volleyball courts, and covered playgrounds. Preliminary Del Norte Masonry collaboration with the city’s parks and recreation staff Products; stone : Advanced Cast Stone; metal decking : CSI Metal Dek and interested citizens affirmed the building as the shelters : Group; rubber safety surfacing : Icon Shelter Systems; architectural woodwork : Johns Manville; masonry units : Heron Millwork; roof and wall panels : Berridge; building insulation : park’s center of activity, an idea that is reflected in its glazed curtainwall : radiating geometry. This design maximizes visual control indoor for staff while orientating patrons to their destinations athletic wood flooring : through a series of arches that correspond with various Connor Sports Flooring; laminate flooring : Armstrong; fluid applied activities. The center stands out as a beacon against flooring : the desert landscape with bright washes of color, while United States Aluminum; athletic flooring : gypsum / acoustical ceilings : Mondo Sports Flooring; USG; Daltile; paint: Dunn-Edwards Paint; cable supported fabric structures : Exerplay simultaneously offering patrons opportunities to connect with nature.
