A NEW GLOBAL TOURIST DESTINATION

By: DECIUS L. ESMEDALLA

T

he Department of Tourism, with its famous brand (or “Tagline) “It’s More fun in the Philippines” and the Philippine Tourism Promotions Board spearheaded the participation of various cities and provinces including tour operators and travel agents in the recently concluded World Travel Market last November 3-6 , 2014 at the Excel Exhibition Center in London. The WTM brings together the most influential figures in and out of the industry who deliver the latest trends and updates of the world’s dynamic travel industry. Put together under one roof, one can view the vastness of the tourism potentials from South Africa, the Americas, Europe and Asia. One of the major and most visited exhibitors in the event was the famous and beautiful island Province of Camiguin in Northern Mindanao, the Philippines. This province, known for its hot and cold springs, waterfalls, white sand beaches, historical and natural landmarks captured the hearts of the visitors especially those coming from England and other countries all over the world. Part of the strategy in promoting the province to the world market

was a video presentation showcasing the unique , breath taking , and awesome sights of the province that successfully seized the attention of the potential investors , buyers and holiday seekers. The Provincial Government of Camiguin together with Department of Tourism – Region 10 , prepared collateral materials such as brochures , gazette, CD’s, and a number USB’s that were given to each visitor as they dropped by and took time to appreciate the magnificence of the island through a well designed business center, with a huge framed photo backdrop of the whole island captivating the intense beauty of its natural wonders. This has also added to the splendors of the entire Philippine Pavilion. One of the highlights of the event was the presence of a double decker bus prominently bearing the name of the province “CAMIGUIN’ with sunny beaches and cool springs painted on its outer walls traversing the main thoroughfares of the City of London. This beautiful bus, also served as one of the official vehicles of the country delegation which brought them to and from the venue, but most of all, greatly added

to the promotional mileage in bringing the Province of Camiguin closer to the world. Another milestone of the event was the meeting of possible investors who would bring in more tourists to the island province by establishing new routes for Cruise Ships, inclusion of the Camiguin Province to their tour packages in Asia and opening of new business ventures through our resort operators and other tourism related facilities in the province. The team also had the opportunity to intensify linkages with other local travel agents and tour operators present during the event. The attendance of Camiguin Province in this world travel arena was also a welcome respite for travelers around the globe, for they also needed to explore new places to offer to their clients. Private investors seeking new destinations and longing for new experiences, inquired in terms of culture, arts, food and natural activities as new products, which they can develop and eventually sell to the industry stakeholders and partners. The team from Camiguin Province was led by Congressman Xavier Jesus D. Romualdo (Lone District of Camiguin Province), Provincial Governor Hon. Jurdin Jesus M. Romualdo, Mr. Ynigo Jesus D. Romualdo (Office of the Congressman, Lone District of Camiguin) , Mayor Maria Luisa D. Romualdo Municipality of Mambajao ) , Mayor Joseph G. Uayan (Municipality of Sagay ) Mayor Joanne Marie C. HAPPY WIFE HAPPY LIFE (CHANGE & IMPROVEMENT) http://www.chinkeetan.com/

TAN by CHINKEE

Allow me to share with you one compelling thing that created a major impact on the session. MYTHS ABOUT MARRIAGE And They Lived Happily Ever After… We often watch Disney Princess movies; how their lives started to experience hardships and cruelty from an evil step mother. How they were able to meet Prince Charming and towards the end got married and ended with the quote, “And They Lived Happily Ever After. The End.” The problem with the movie; it never showed the part two. How they at time, have disagreements and how they intentionally or intentionally hurt each other. How they were able to patch up and fix their relationships. Believe me, there is no such thing as a perfect marriage since we all have selfish and sinful nature. We are talking about two imperfect beings that has flaws and weaknesses put together by God in order to become better persons. That is the reason why we just need to admit that we need to CHANGE and

IMPROVE. The greatest room that we can ever have in our lives is CHANGE & IMPROVEMENT. So let us continue to ask and evaluate ourselves. What are the things we can CHANGE & IMPROVE? Is it your temper issues? You easily get irritated or get angry if things did not happen according to your plan or way. Is it a bad habit? You just have a hard time closing doors or drawers once you open it. Is it your spending issues? You just have a hard time controlling yourself to spend even if there is no need for you to buy things. The issue is not the weakness but the issue is if you are willing to admit and accept that you need to CHANGE & IMPROVE? The first step towards a better marriage is ADMISSION that you need to fix the issues. Me and my wife were so glad that many people inside the room were so brave to admit that they have issues, that there is a need for CHANGE & IMPROVEMENT. How about you? Are you also open for CHANGE & IMPROVEMENT? THINK. REFLECT. APPLY. What are the issues you have in your life? Is it a bad habit? Is it a pride issue? Is it a money issue? Are you willing and open for CHANGE & IMPROVEMENT? If you are, what are you planning to do about it?

Almost 200 couples were there; young and mature couples. I and my wife were so blessed that we were given the opportunity to help them and share to them our personal experiences on how God use our marriage in order encourage others.

I watched Exodus: Gods and Kings last night so I’m inspired to write a column about the origins of Christmas. Mind you, without these few heroic people in the Old Testament, the birth of Jesus would have never occurred. It all started when Abram was called by God to lead “the chosen people” into the wondrous land of Egypt. It was two generations later when Joseph – Abram’s grandson – ultimately fulfilled the promise by God and he was able to sneak into Egypt by wonderful accident. He was sold by his own brothers to the Egyptians. Pretty soon, the Israelites (named after

The Christmas prequel

Joseph’s father Israel or Jacob), grew in number and the Egyptians especially the ruling Pharaoh were harsh to them and treated them as slaves. The slaves were violently punished while working huge construction sites such as the pyramid and the Pharaoh’s own monument. I knew this story since childhood but knowing the story from a teen’s point of view and from an adult point of view is something different. When I was a child, I had with me an illustrated book describing vividly the Israelites’ escape into the Red Sea, the burning bush and the etching of the Ten Commandments. When

But there he is in all his majestic form ruling the cinema with Exodus: Gods and Kings with an equally competent cast in the form of Christian Bale as Moses and Joel Edgerton as Pharaoh Rameses. The next interesting part of the Old Testament will be the reign of the Judges. And on with the reigns of Kings Saul, David and Solomon. Then after that, there were the reigns of the major prophets Isaiah, Jermiah and Ezekiel and the minor prophets Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah Haggai, Zechariah and Malachi. A few generations after

You’ve got to imagine the lyric of the song: There can be miracles when you believe Who knows what miracles you can achieve Somehow you will when you believe Now here is a version by the great old director Ridley Scott. Imagine that the guy is now 77 years old and he’s still reeling with the sudden death of his little brother Tony. Imagine how distracted he should have been while making Exodus: Gods and Kings.

that, Jesus was born via Joseph and Mary. That will be our first Christmas celebration. But prior to that, these heroes I have mentioned earlier were really instrumental in bringing out the first Christmas. Without Noah leading “the chosen people” into Ur and Haran, there were no Jews. Without Joseph leading the Israelites into Egypt, there were no “chosen people” to this day. Without Moses leaving the Pharaoh’s comfort as a prince and a general and leading “the chosen people” out of his kingdom and into the barren land of Canaan filled with Hittites and other barbaric tribes, there would have been no Jewish people
