This was a passion project for Karam, whose godson Liam was born with Down syndrome, as proceeds from the book support good deeds Down syndrome research.

goodlike deeds “I was inspired to volunteer for this project. It seemed the perfect way to support Liam and the other folks who have Down’s,” Karam said. The story revolves around the unique Austin tradition of decorating random cedar trees along the roads at Christmas and is based on a real child named Stella. Karam also recently launched a mobile application company called NowAPPening LLC, and her first app is out this spring.
