a message from the Director of Development STEPHEN DAVENPORT
Dear St. Margaret’s family and friends, Having now been a part of this community for the past four years, I am thrilled to have witnessed a transformation in our culture of giving at St. Margaret’s School. Like all independent schools, St. Margaret’s relies upon the philanthropic generosity of alumnae, parents, families, board members, and friends in order to support our varying needs. Since I joined this Development team, we have emphasized the importance of growing this culture of giving within our community to accommodate these diverse needs at St. Margaret’s School. Several years ago, a generous donor stepped forward with a gift of $50,000 that the Office of Development was able to use as a matching challenge to help inspire leadership donors to increase their giving to St. Margaret’s. This past year, we were able to build on that momentum by launching a new giving level to our Annual Fund as well as focusing our attention on our parent giving. We are pleased to report that in the 2015-2016 fiscal year, we launched the 21st Century Society, a $25,000 giving level for the Annual Fund, and three members of this community generously stepped forward to participate at this prestigious level. Additionally, it is with great pleasure we share that we nearly tripled our parent giving to the Annual Fund, increasing from 24% to 71% participation. Over the past four years, St. Margaret’s has increased her dollars raised in support of the Annual Fund by nearly 25%, demonstrating that this community has the willingness to step up in support of our mission. Having had the opportunity to witness firsthand the evolution of our Annual Fund, and now as your immensely proud Director of Development, I look forward to continuing to promote and grow our Annual Fund. Cultural trends show us that now, more than ever, women are instrumental in making philanthropic decisions within their households. We also know that at this time, individuals are being solicited more than ever and the pressure to decide which institutions merit support is constantly mounting. For this reason, we are extremely thankful to the many alumnae, friends, and families of this school who show their generosity every year. We continue to rely on each of you in order to thrive in educating girls for life but not without the deepest appreciation. With sincere gratitude,
