As a part of this program, I moved to rural Bluff, Utah to build a home for Juanita Joe, whom was paralyzed in a car accident. For 57 days 11 students and myself built the home from the ground up and presented it to Juanita in April of 2014. Interior spaces are more open and transparent to allow light to flood the building and also to give a sense to relief and calm.

The building is designed to imitate the coming together to two parties who are in dispute and create an icon for the Marmalade District to showcase the mediation process. The facade also illustrates the complicated process to mediation while act as a sun shading system to block the harsh sun rays, but let in light. This also serves to block views into the building creating a more private space for the intimate mediation process.

BLOSSOMS Sonic Response Studio Fall 2013

The objective of the Sonic Response Studio was to design and create a sonic sculpture that responded to either sound or motion. Our project featured “Blossoms” of silk fabric that through motion sensors, mechanics and Ardunio’s, opened by movement. This studio provided valuable knowledge of processing programs and Grasshopper that would not normally be taught in a conventional design studio. This studio also provided a space to think architecturally, but design without the common constraints of a building architecture. Team: Sarah Winkler

Hand Rendering I first became interested in architecture through drawing and sketching. I have always been a artistic and creative person. I enjoying working with a variety of mediums and I now apply these techniques to convey architectural ideas. I enjoy using this now lesser used medium to express architecture.
