2013 Youth Poetry Contest The Little Dancing Waif
I once saw a young woman so thin and pale That she looked like a little waif Her bones seemed so brittle and her braid was so thick it swung like a rope And her face was tight with pain and suffering But as she took her stance and began to dance As the music started Her tiny feet went tripping lightly Across her stage While the sway of flute and piccolo notes danced merrily on their way The little waif’s tulip eyes showed such an inner beauty of strength and courage As you would not think to see encased In such a small child And when the tune was done and she disappeared into the crowd She’d left her mark on everyone Through her dancing she’d shown the swarm How to continue on Natalie Thouvenin Grade 9, Homeschool Roses are Red Roses are Red violets are blue I love my mom and she love me to My mom is my mom nothing more nothing less She cares for me and I do the same to Nobody could replace my mom she is one of a kind I respect her and she respects me to My mom is a great mom she knows just what to do The things I do for her she does for me to I do the dishes, clean, and fold the clothes She respects just what I do The things she does for me Clean, buy me things, and food I respect the things she does for me! Cries of Hope You're too tired to sleep, And you don't know why Simple things seem so deep, And even compliments make you cry. You think you're a mess, Your screams are too loud. But for some reason no one tells you to scream less, So you stop anyway and you don't make a sound. You can cry out in hope, Or stay behind. It'll get too hard to cope, You'll be forever confined.
