Tilt-in-Space Riser Recliner Chairs Available as single or dual motor, these chairs recline you but keep the hip, knee, and ankle angles the same. These chairs are favoured by occupational therapists, as they distribute weight more evenly and reduce pressure points. In addition they can elevate your legs so that your hips are higher than your heart â&#x20AC;&#x201C; invaluable treatment for poor circulation and fluid retention. These are particularly useful if you cannot correct your position while seated, are frail or have limited strength.

Single Motor Riser Recliner Chairs A single motor controls the back rest and foot rest. The foot rest normally comes up first, allowing you to have your legs supported while still sitting up â&#x20AC;&#x201C; once the foot rest is fully raised, the back will start to recline.

That is because it has been specially designed for those with limited mobility to transfer easily in and out of it. It has a unique drop down arm that allows for easy transfer, for example, from a wheelchair. Once the user is seated, the chair arm can be raised back into place. Now an octogenarian, he is the man behind classics such as the angle poise lamp, the Kodak instamatic camera and the Kenwood Chef mixer. In 2011, he was commissioned to design an ergonomic chair specifically for older people by the furniture maker Hitch Mylius. The result would not look out of place in an art gallery. There are 5 measurements you will need when deciding which chair is the right size. To measure accurately, you must be wearing the shoes or slippers that you would normally wear when at home. Sit on a chair with your back straight. Your hips and knees should be at right angles and feet flat on the floor. You might find it easier if someone helps you take the measurements.

Seat height

How to measure seat height Measure the distance from the floor to the crease at the back of the knees. Choose a chair which has a seat height that is not smaller than your measurement. Always go to the closest height above your measurement to ensure comfort.

How to measure seat depth Measure the distance from the back of the hips, along the thighs to approximately 4cm (1½") behind the back of the knees. When seated you should be able to place 2 fingers between the edge of the seat at the back of the knee.

How to measure seat width The correct seating width should be the width of the person's hips plus a 20mm (¾") inch gap on either side. This should ensure the arms sit comfortably on the arm rests and that the chair is not too wide or too narrow.

Your weight It is important to choose a chair that is suitable for your weight. The motor that lifts you to a standing position and lowers you to a seated position has been tested to lift a maximum weight. This weight is stated next to all the chairs as the maximum user weight. If you use a chair which is not suitable for your weight it will invalidate the warranty, as it puts extra stress onto the motor.

Safe recline distance This is simply the space you need to have behind the chair in order to recline and not hit anything.
