I’m loving this ride, but can I share something with you?

Since starting this magazine in 2012 every month moves faster! As we focus on the next edition time picks up speed, maybe because I am counting the days down for those who are asking. Maybe it’s because I notice how quickly my little one is growing, as he asks, “When we can swim at the pond?”, and “How many days to Easter?”. But no matter what, time is speeding up, and so are the life lessons. The most important lessons, enjoy life, notice the now moment, spend time appreciating, and live with deep gratitude for all that you have! It’s not so much about pushing for the next edition or gearing up for the next season, it’s about letting it flow and enjoying the ride. This month I hope to bring those keys closer to your heart and mine!

The Health Benefits of Oil Pulling has reached this consistency, it is spit out before the toxins are reabsorbed.

What does oil pulling do?

Oil pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic remedy for oral health and detoxification. It involves the use of pure oils as agents for pulling harmful bacteria, fungus, and other organisms out of the mouth, teeth, gums and even throat.

The most effective oil pulling is done by placing around a tablespoon of cold pressed organic sesame oil into the mouth and swishing the oil around the mouth for approximately 10-15 minutes and then spitting it out.

Other oils such as extra virgin cold pressedcoconut, sunflower and olive oil have been used, although sesame oil is considered one of the best oils for this practice. I recommend alternating oils every couple of days to get the full benefit. Putting high quality organic oils into the mouth has a multi-effect outcome.

First, the oils mix with the saliva, turning it into a thin, white liquid. Lipids in the oils begin to pull out toxins from the saliva. As the oil is swished around the mouth, teeth, gums and tongue, the oil continues to absorb toxins, and usually ends up turning thick and viscous and white. Once the oil

Multiple scientific studies show the efficacy of oil pulling therapy. One study [1] shows that oil pulling with sesame oil can boost overall oral health.

Specifically, using sesame oil as an oral health agent helps to reduce the amount of S. mutans (germ) count in both teeth plaque and mouth saliva.

Scientists believe that the lipids in the oil both pull out bacteria, as well as stop bacterial from sticking to the walls of the oral cavity.

Oil pulling may also increase saponification in the mouth, creating a soapy environment that cleanses the mouth as vegetable fat is an emulsifier by nature. Most interesting is perhaps the ability of oil to cleanse out harmful bacteria, as well as reduce fungal overgrowth. These oils also possibly help in cellular restructuring, and are related to the proper functioning of the lymph nodes and other internal organs.

Other possible benefits of oil pulling for oral health include: 

Benefits Beyond the Mouth?

Ancient Ayurvedic health practitioners believed that oil pulling could reduce more than just diseases of the mouth and throat. Today, many holistic practitioners tout its use for a variety of health concerns. It is believed that these oils help the lymphatic system of the body as harmful bacteria are removed and beneficial micro flora are given with a healthy environment to flourish. Because of this holistic perspective, oil pulling has been used as a preventative health measure for many other conditions.

Scientific Studies on Sesame Oil and Oil Pulling Sesame oil is particularly high in the antioxidants sesamol, sesamin, and sesamolin.

It also holds a high concentration of Vitamin E and polyunsaturated fatty acids. These antioxidants have been found to stop the absorption of negative forms of cholesterol in theliver. Multiple studies have shown the antibacterial capacities of sesame oil.

These studies support the use of oil pulling in the prevention of dental cavities and gingivitis.

A 2007 study [2] looking into the effect of oil pulling (with sunflower oil) on plaque and gingivitis on oral soft and hard tissues. Results found that after 45 days of oil pulling, subjects showed a statistically significant reduction in gingivitis.

Another study [3], conducted in 2008 found a “remarkable reduction in the total count of bacteria” in the mouth, and an overall marked reduction in susceptibility dental cavities. The antibacterial activity of sesame oil was also studied and found to have an effect on the Streptococcus mutans in the mouth. In fact, these studies showed an overall reduction of bacteria from 10 to 33.4% in participants, and after 40 days of oil-pulling, participants were found to show 20% in average reduction in oral bacteria. Moreover, half of all participants in this case study showed a drastic reduction in susceptibility to dental caries.

Many weeks ago, before my move back to the Dallas area, I had a red-shouldered hawk perch itself on a branch just yards from me. I know it knew I was near because it looked straight at me, almost starring, several times. For at least two-minutes it moved its head scanning, then always back to me. If you know about red-shouldered hawks, they are solitary birds and in the wild keep their safe distance from humans. For some reason this hawk was not bothered by my proximity. I found its behavior a little extraordinary but concluded the encounter as randomly weird and moved on. A few days later the same thing happened and I couldn’t discount its second visit as random chance; not within the mechanics of quantum entanglement. Yes, I know; a big leap perhaps. But stay with me a minute.

I have a deep fondness and admiration for

indigenous people and their connection to nature and Earth. Though they might appear as “uncivilized” by Western standards, they have an understanding of their environment that goes much deeper than our vocabulary and descriptions. Native American culture is inextricably connected with natural systems, Earth-systems, and their culture places high regard and meaning for hawk visits. For example, a hawk brings or confirms heightened vision, power, energy, and a rebirth. It also brings or confirms heightened strategy, intensity, attention, protection, teamwork, intelligence, focus, and intuition. I have noticed an increase in all of these traits over the last two months, many of them confirmed by coworkers and friends without my solicitations.

One website explaining hawk visits and totems says the following, which I found further confirms what has happened in my life these last few months. Bear with me please: “Hawk totems are extraordinarily effective at

protection. They are kind of like raptorangels. They keep watch over those who hold an affinity for them (and vice versa).

They tend to arrange energy in such a way so that danger or bad choices are either made known to their people, or are avoided altogether.

If the hawk is your totem, you are extremely perceptive. You see things others miss. Your vision goes beyond the physical too – you have a knack for seeing into the souls of people you deal with. You might call it a gift of intuition. You just have a sense, or an ‘aerial view’ into what is going on in the hearts of people. This is a great trait, but the downside to hawk people with this gift is that you tend to be way too forthcoming with your observations. Being naturally direct and candid personality types, hawk-people will make pointed statements about very sensitive issues that they’ve picked up by their powers of perception. Word of advice: Be delicate and diplomatic with your deductions.

Perhaps it is their unyielding honesty that makes hawk-people admirable partners. People who have hawk as their totem make outstanding mates, friends, co-workers, lovers, sister, brothers etc. They are loyal, honest and direct.

Typically, you always know where you stand with a hawk-person, and others find this refreshing in a world of mind-gamers. Hawk-partners are also very protective, and will defend their compatriots to a fierce degree.

Those with the hawk as their totem are also visionaries. They look above the problem (another ‘aerial view’), for solutions. They are expert problem solvers because they aren’t part of the problem – they aren’t stuck in the issue.

Rather, they rise above it, and in an elevated state they are able to see answers most might overlook.”

Now many would argue that it is simply a hawk’s instinct to fly and perch in certain ways. Many would argue there are logical environmental or predatory reasons the hawk perched in that particular spot. I would not disagree one bit. There is a waterfall and pond just under the two different branches it sat on. The habitat of Red-shouldered hawks is indeed forests and streams where their food can be found. Our 20

pond has several goldfish and one or two leopard frogs. What naysayers can’t explain away is their known behavior around humans: solitude. In the wild they do not seek out the company of humans! Yet my red-shouldered hawk did just that, for long moments, and did so on two separate occasions within days. I don’t believe I can ignore that. And with an adequate understanding of the interaction between quantum atomic systems and macro-systems (themselves made up of quantum systems) demands at least examining the encounters, not ignoring them.

This I know: my powers of intuition and observation are definitely heightened and I am doing no illegal drugs. This has been evidenced in several life-decisions and reactions, or interactions with people over these last couple of months. What is amazing for me is to see and understand how it all operates and coexists. What is more astonishing is watching it all work without words. The exchange of information takes place not only on obvious levels such as verbal communication, but just as much on subatomic levels. One only needs to become more observant, more aware of the exchange method, if you will. In fact, I would wager that much much more information is available and exchanged than the obvious five senses. Quantum Entanglement is increasingly showing this phenomenon to exist. We crudely call it intuition.

I wonder if we are to eventually know that the inward and the outward are never really separated, ever, by any distance?

with Diane Marie Ford Once upon a time an exceptionally lively kitten by the name of Seven, took up residence with our family.

“Don’t Look For Me. See Me.”

Mischievous.

Adventurous.

Expressive.

And very, very curious.

Seven was always up to something and kept us on our toes with his entertaining and heartwarming antics. We nicknamed him ‘Moses Poses’.

One day out of the blue, Seven threw a blood clot and was rushed to the hospital, where he remained in I.C.U. for four days. On the morning of the fifth day, the day we were to bring him back home, I was on the telephone with the vet tech making arrangements to pick him up. In the background I heard loud voices shouting something out.

Then I heard the vet tech exclaim “Oh No! He just died!” Seven threw another clot. This one took his life.

We picked him up that day, and brought his tiny body back home. We celebrated his life with a proper burial and proceeded to move on with our lives, the way we all do after losing a loved one. Life goes on and all that jazz.

Missing this frisky, enthralling feline, I lamented his physical presence each and every time I entered our home through the kitchen door. I grieved for him everyday… until that one day which changed my life forever.

On that day, as I entered the kitchen, I yearned for Seven with every cell of my body aching just to see him again. I looked around hoping he might magically appear – right there on the counter – right there in one of his ‘Moses Poses’ flopped over positions; when I heard him say “Don’t look for me. See me!”

In that instant everything changed! My perception, my pain, my longing, his absence.

Suddenly and effortlessly he appeared. I could see him everywhere; I could sense his presence right there with me. I felt myself smile with joy, saw a reassuring twinkle in my eye and experienced a deep sense of connection and love within my heart.

The circle had completed itself. Seven hadn’t died. Seven had merely changed form.

His advice to ‘stop looking for him’ opened new pathways. Not only was I able to see those who had gone before me everywhere I looked, my connection with the spirit world deepened. I was suddenly able to open up in a much easier way and tune in on a more

meaningful level. Connection with those in spirit became effortless and very, very rich.

Seven’s message is timeless and ageless. It applies to us all on so many levels and in so many realms. “Don’t look for me. See Me.” Think about it, if you will… 

How often have you actually made a connection with a loved one in spirit but second guessed yourself because the connection wasn’t what you thought it would feel or be like?



How many times have you gotten in your own way and blocked the flow of _________________? (Fill in the blank)

How many times have you tried so hard you found yourself creating agonizing resistance?



How about not being able to see the forest for the trees? You want it so badly you can’t see it standing directly in front of you?

What would it take for you to step out of your own way and trust in the divine right order of things? 

What do you think that would feel like?



How would doing so benefit you?

You may be surprised with the answers which will rise to the surface if you simply trust yourself.

I reflect back on Seven’s simple advice and feel grateful to him for reminding me that I had possessed the key all along. The key which 24

opened the door and allowed me to move out from the room of doom and gloom, of pain and despair, into light-heartedness and clarity. I had become so distraught after his death that I had forgotten I held the key.

Death has a way of doing that… of making you forget certain things.

May I remind you that you hold the key and you posses the power to experience life differently?

I suggest you start off gently and give Seven’s sage advice a go… especially if you are grieving the death of a loved one. Rather than longing for their physical presence, feel them with you.

Listen to their words.

Take a comfortable seated position in which your spine can be straight. Ideally you will sit in an easy cross legged posture with your sitz bones grounded into the floor and relax.

Close your eyes. Bring your attention to your breathing, and watch it gently, without making any special efforts. After a couple of minutes of gently observing your breath draw in the sound so as you inhale (silently) pause at the bottom of the breath for a moment, and let the sound HUM float in your mind, as you exhale out. A gentle pause here, and then repeat. Do this for as long as it remains effortless. When you release the last comfortable HUM sit with your eyes closed, gently absorbing the results of your lack of effort. Then open your eyes, and proceed with your day.

For me, Breath is the core of my yoga practice. Every inhale and exhale reminds me that I am connected to all things, a part of all things, not just in the here and now, but in the yesterday and tomorrow. I have been, I am and I will be. I am infinite and immortal, and breath is the bridge.

Many websites contain content specifically designed to use keywords so frequently that it borders on absurdity, in an attempt to improve organic ranking. The 2013 Hummingbird update took this into account and copywriters rejoiced, no longer would they be forced to sully their carefully written content into keyword rich drab. With the most recent Google algorithm changes keywords are still important in creating a good user experience, but not at the cost of making a site page relevant and useful. Try to create your pages with topics in mind, rather than keywordcentric paragraphs. After misjudging the future success of Facebook and social media in general, Google came to realize that they were no longer innovators in the ever-changing tech industry. While they were buying companies left and right and expanding their portfolio, they lost focus on their core products — a lesson that Steve Jobs himself pointed out to Larry Page on his death bed. Organic and Paid Search, while still the best practices in the industry, weren’t being updated quickly to adapt to changing web behavior. Google attempted to rectify their bad judgment with Google Plus – a tool that’s important now, but was too little too late in the game of Social Media. Thus began the new policy amongst Google developers: always think ahead.

In 2012, Google surprised paid search marketers with the news that mobile placement could no longer be managed as a separate platform, but would instead be combined with desktop and tablet platforms. Along with the Hummingbird

algorithm update, Google is striving to maintain their status as innovators in the online marketplace. In this industry, it is important to predict the upcoming changes to avoid stagnation.

RELYING ON GOOGLE ANALYTICS Pick up your jaw from the floor, and compose yourself. The following information is not as salacious as the headline suggests, and Google Analytics will remain an important weapon in your arsenal. In fact with the constant addition of tracking features and the service being FREE, it is foolish to elect not to use Google Analytics. However, a recent change in the service has been met with some skepticism. The organic keyword feature is now “100% secure,” which means that searches performed on Google.com are no longer available for collection and analyzing. Google has justified this change with the shift in how queries are being made (see above). Experts have suggested that Google is encouraging small businesses to rely less on organic search and more on paid placement, which still offers an abundance of keyword data. If this is the case, Google AdGrants makes for a wonderful alternative to non-profits.

The Hummingbird algorithm update has changed the relative importance of the strategies mentioned above, with regard to improving organic rank. In the upcoming posts we will examine Audience Optimization techniques to continue to utilize or to begin utilizing for your site.

Re-Discovering Reiki as a Spiritual Practice Spoiler Alert: Opening the Heart The system of Reiki was developed in Japan by Sensei Mikao Usui (1865 -1926) first and foremost as a spiritual practice for connecting to our own Rei-ki, ‘soul energy’ or ‘spiritual energy.’ Usui’s education and training were based in Buddhist teachings, so it is no surprise that his system of Reiki is about cultivating inner peace so we can live in harmony and accord with the unfolding of our lives. The following quotation from Usui’s Memorial Stone is helpful here: "The main objective of Reiki is not only to heal illness, but it also …balances the spirit, makes the body healthy, and thus helps achieve happiness."

By resting in the Reiki meditations, Reiki Precepts and daily self-Reiki, we connect deeply to our inner selves, our true selves, our spiritual selves. In this way, we are open to a transformation of consciousness. This transformation of consciousness brings into our lives the gifts of patience, understanding, loving-kindness, compassion and gratitude. With these gifts our lives are changed forever, as is the energy we carry into our relationships with people, Nature and Spirit.

In the West, the emphasis in Reiki training has often tended to be on the hands-on healing component of the system of Reiki. Therefore, many Reiki practitioners in the West may experience a rediscovery that, at its core, the system of Reiki is a spiritual development practice. Let’s take a look at the experience of re-discovering Reiki as a spiritual practice in the life of a hypothetical Western-trained Reiki practitioner.

You are in the kitchen, rushing a bit as you slice vegetables for a nutritious new recipe you are trying.

The knife slips and you nick your finger. We have all done it. If you are trained in Reiki you will likely immediately treat your finger, knowing that your finger will heal quicker and the pain will be effectively reduced. This use of Reiki healing is an example of Reiki as a therapeutic tool to alleviate an acute injury and address specific symptoms resulting from the acute injury. Reiki as a therapeutic tool is practiced on oneself and on others.

A week later you find yourself re-visiting the same old chronic worry that has burdened your life on and off for over a decade. At your recent Reiki training, though, you were taught and encouraged to practice self-Reiki every day.

You have been doing your selfReiki practice diligently for two months now, so you have begun to gain some perspective on your chronic worry. Not only that, as a result of your daily self-Reiki practice you have been able to reduce the severity of the emotional pain that went along with your thoughts of worry. Since Reiki is really all about love, including self-love, you find your heart opening to accepting this part of yourself, and now, before they overcome you, you can more easily recognize those thoughts arising in your mind, along with the body sensations that tend to go with them, and work with releasing them. This use of Reiki healing is an example of Reiki as a daily practice, like yoga or meditation, to gain balance in our lives. Reiki as a daily practice for managing chronic mental and emotional distress is practiced on oneself and on others.

As the months go by, you continue exploring the system of Reiki even more deeply. You are moved to do so because your ongoing practice is creating its own momentum of building gentle inner connection and transformation of consciousness.

Of course you continue to practice Reiki as a therapeutic tool on yourself and others for acute and chronic conditions. You continue your daily Reiki practice on

yourself and others for wellness and to bring balance into your own, or someone else’s life on the physical, mental and emotional levels. You now re-commit yourself to daily contemplation of the 5 Reiki Precepts and the Reiki meditations you were taught in your Reiki training, two of the foundational practices within the system of Reiki. You have rediscovered Reiki as a spiritual

path.

One of the foundations of Reiki as a spiritual development system is the 5 Reiki Precepts/Principles, or Gokai. Here they are in a favorite translation of mine:

Do Not Abide in Anger Do Not Abide in Worry Be Grateful Do Your Work Diligently Be Kind to Self and Others One may find these 5 Reiki Principles to be simplistic, but we all struggle to let go of anger, fear, worry, impatience and all of our habitual conditionings around these states of mind. Once we begin the diligent inner work with our anger and worry, however, the blessings of gratitude, contentment, compassion, and unconditional love pour forth with surprising ease. We learn this from Sensei Usui’s introduction to the Reiki Principles. Usui tell us that the Precepts are “The secret

of inviting happiness through many blessings; the spiritual medicine for all illness.” The spiritual practice of Reiki includes

reciting and contemplating the Precepts twice a day, bringing them into our consciousness and hearts so that we can ultimately incorporate them into our very beings, gently bringing us and those around us wellbeing in body, mind, and spirit.

Working with the Reiki meditations, such as Joshin Kokyu Ho and Gassho meditation, supports us as we connect to our inner spiritual space. Gassho meditation, just for one example, consists of the ostensibly simple practice of bringing the palms of the hands together in front of the body at about heart level, and breathing into the hara (also known as tanden or dantian in non -Japanese systems). The hara is the energy center of a person in the Japanese spiritual system.

Although we are not trying to ‘achieve’ anything with our practice, it is nonetheless true that Gassho meditation practice and breathing into the hara allow us to cultivate a stable, secure foundation. This is the same as what many may call ‘grounding’ or ‘centering.’ We want to find our solid foundation as Reiki practitioners so our minds are clear, calm and focused, instead of frantic, scattered minds full of thoughts racing around. This base of balance within us allows us to manage our fears and insecurities with greater resilience. From this space of stability and inner mental and emotional strength we offer Reiki to our clients and ourselves with compassion and openheartedness, without fear or worry or judgment. We provide a calm, comforting, healing presence to 39

our clients in an authentic way because we are not distracted by reactive thoughts.

Have you ever been in attendance at a concert, recital, lecture, graduation ceremony or play; or at a gathering where someone or a group was being acknowledged and honored for their achievement or their performance? Probably every reader can answer “Yes” to that question.

In the above scenario(s) did you ever rise from your seat to join in or even been the first or only one to give a standing ovation? Again, I bet most of you will answer “Yes”.

You may have shared a personal connection with the recipient: family, colleague, team member, friend, mentor, student, sponsor... Possibly you were simply a great fan, or maybe you were completely taken by surprise at your own enthusiastic response to the object of all that hubbub.

Can you recall how that felt?

Most likely you felt a combination of the following: energized, inspired, grateful, impressed, passionate, expansive, vibrant, thankful, joyful, moved, proud; or maybe simply ‘blown away’. Feel free to add your own feeling(s) to the mix.

Now, let’s flip the coin. Have you ever been the object of such great outpouring?

If your answer is “No”, please take a moment to imagine what it might feel like to be received in such a manner? Think about it... feel it. The recipient of the standing ovation would probably feel much the same way as the giver.

The bottom line is that both the giver(s) and receiver (s) undoubtedly became connected in a positive way, and felt that powerful vibration. It was an uplifting and memorable experience.

What a magnificent testament to a mutually grand and grateful state of being. What you’ve done by imagining or calling to mind this state is put yourself into a ‘standing ovation mindset’!

It is my belief that from within this mindset, this expansive and ‘connected’ perspective, compassion and mutual support are recognized. It is from this shared mindset that greatness manifests itself.

Who would not want to feel that way? Who could not benefit from being held in this high vibrational state? What do you imagine could spring forth from living day to day in such a rich mindset?

I imagine expanding my world with a wellspring of appreciation, heightened awareness, gratitude, power, connection, compassion, fulfilled dreams, rich and rewarding activity, inexhaustible energy, vibrancy, limitless resources, effectiveness, clear focus, passion, leadership, rejuvenation, success, inspired expression, ease, balance, creativity, joy, wonder…

I invite you to do your own imagining. What would living in a ‘standing ovation mindset’ look and feel like? The first step is yours to take, whenever you are ready. You are in charge of what you feel, and that defines your experience.

Here we go! This is the energy that heralds us in after the Solstice! Happy Spring! The new moon in Aries just came to us at the end of March, but its energy is felt throughout the month of April. Aries is the first sign in the zodialogical calendar, and therefore brings in a lot of new beginning and fresh start energy. It is the perfect time of year for beginning anew. Aries simplifies things, and maybe the answers were just far too simple; you looked right past them. Now you can see how simple things can truly be.

This new moon will bring back the joy and laughter. This fiery, cardinal sign brings in laughter, playfulness, passion and will spark a lot of new ideas. Take some time to have fun, and appreciate those you care for in your life. Aries is about fun, so live it up! Have a fire in celebration of Spring and new beginnings. Aries reminds us that we all have to take some time for ourselves, and this energy can help us follow through with what is best for us, individually. Aries will give us that extra push to pursue what we want for our lives; it does not matter what others think; Aries’ motto is I AM. Hold your ground with who you are, and what you stand for. Aries tells you to express yourself, and have fun while doing it! Sometimes we need to laugh at ourselves too, so don’t take yourself too seriously.

The darker qualities of Aries could bring out your selfish, pushy or demanding side; be aware of this energy in the air, and you will avoid conflicts easily. Enjoy the company of friends and family, and think of new ways you can react to old things. Aries is ruled by Mars, and therefore has fiery qualities of drive and action. Mars makes things happen; it’s a planet of doing. After this long period of winter, internal thoughts and psychic clues, now is the time for action. Aries tells us to get going! Whatever it may be…it tells us to physically get moving toward those goals. They say the longest journey starts with a 51

single step. Big goals can seem intimidating, but fear not; Aries will light the fire under you, and give you the drive to start moving.

Aries gets us moving, and sparks a lot of energy setting a perfect stage for Libra to come in on April 15th. The Libra full moon is highlighted with a total lunar eclipse this month, and will send out a lot more energy because of it. It asks us what kind of seeds we want to plant.

What do you want to manifest? Remember last harvest? What do you want to do better this year? Libra will bring your attention to the balance between living in the mystical dream world of your imagination versus the reality of putting your ideas into action; the balance between your work-life and home-life, as well as the balance between you and your partner. Libra is ruled by Venus, the feminine planet of love, music and balance. It will really bring your focus onto the areas in which you need balance the most. Are you balancing your inner and outer selves? Are

your dreams balancing with your reality? Libra will give you a great perspective.You will know what to do, if you listen to your inner voice… your higher self. Just remember that you can always turn inward, and the answers are there. Libra helps you weed the garden of life. It helps you get rid of that which no longer serves you, whether it’s an imbalance in a relationship or simply a bad habit.You cut out the old to prepare room for more growth. Libra is very good at being unbiased, and when it comes to what is good for us, sometimes, for one reason or another, we can be subconsciously drawn toward the very things that inhibit us.

So now it’s clean up time!

Only once you have let those things go, can you truly move forward. Isn’t this too what we do at the beginning of every planting season? We prepare the ground, and weed out what has taken over in the fall and winter months. We can then start with a clean slate.

This Aries-Libra cycle helps us simplify, and extricate that

which is inhibiting us. Take that beautiful Libra energy, and bring balance to any or all of these life aspects. By balancing one, then another, you will find that others may just balance themselves out for you! Libra will also bring out the socialite in you, so get together with those in your life you care for. Show your love. Balance those imbalances, let go of that which you need to, show off the artist in yourself and show your love. Those are the messages Libra heralds in!

April 29th brings in the new moon in Taurus, and with it a solar eclipse! The full moon in Libra gave us a total lunar eclipse, which boosted that beautiful energy, and helped us clear the slates for our new season. This new moon in Taurus with a Solar eclipse really sets us up for success. Taurus helps us build sturdy foundations after we have used the Libra energy to clean things up! The new moon in Taurus highlights Venus’ energy even more this month. Taurus teaches us to slow down, and nurture

ourselves. This new moon will bring your attention not only to your love life, but also your financial stability. Taurus longs to be secure and stable in these two areas, and will bring any aspect of those that are not in balance to your attention. This is a great new moon to set strong financial and abundance goals for yourself. This is also a great moon for starting a good routine or habit. It will set a strong tone to follow through with what you start. Anything started in a Taurus moon will stick and secure itself in your life, so be careful what you intend, and what you start.

Taurus is a fixed, earth sign so be careful not to be too stubborn. Taurus is also the bull, so whatever you charge at‌you will charge, full force; determination is a key quality of this moon.You may be feeling a little extra romantic in the presence of this moon; spend some time with someone you love. Show those you love that you love them. It is always appreciated.

Spend some time in nature this month as well. Soak in a

beautiful scene at a local brook or nature path. Breathe in this serene, pure love from nature, and send your own love and appreciation back.

Venus will help you appreciate how beautiful this world really is. This will put you in a state of appreciation and gratitude, which in turn always leads to more gifts.

This is a great habit to start in a Taurus moon; the habit of gratitude.

Overall this month of April really has things moving.

It starts of fresh and simple, and gives you the drive to move forward for yourself. It gives you this wonderful spark that may have been dampened in the winter months‌We can now reignite our passion for life and forward motion.

Libra shows up to help us cut out that which no longer

serves us, and does a great job of being fair. The eclipses during the full moon and even the following new moon really highlight all of the energy flying! This amps everything up and you will feel it! This beautiful whirlwind of air is quickly followed by the new, earthy moon of Taurus. What a great way to set sturdy foundations and strong goals. April is motivated and energetic! You will feel this forward motion, and by May will come to see how much you truly can succeed at. Go you!

t The Heavens Never Cried

I have always known that a fine line exists between our earthly dimension and the heavenly plane of life. Death is but a mere transition to the other side. An existence, I believe that is full of unconditional love, acceptance and a continual, evolving knowledge.

My brother, a year before his death came to me. Very matter-of-factly he said that he was going to die very young. I sensed a calm about him. I also did not find this information to be disturbing, yet the information he shared with me came out of nowhere. I simply took in what he relayed to me, never feeling it necessary to discuss it further.

I have met many people in my travels, in my work place and in a myriad of situations that have shared similar thoughts about dying. I have also read in spiritual texts how individuals often know of their impending death, though they are unaware of how they are going to die. I would have never, ever suspected my brother would have died a vicious death, nor could I possibly believe that he would know that he would die such a barbarous death. He knew that he would die. I believed him.

October 14, 1995 my brother, Michael, was brutally murdered without any rhyme or reason. He died a year to the date that he and I had our conversation about his potential passing. It was one of the worst atrocities to have ever taken place in the state of Massachusetts. Michael’s death was incomprehensible to me.

I have come to understand that grief is like the seasons. It is always there, yet it comes and goes, varying with degrees of pain. Just as the sun rises, it sets. Some days are less luminous than others. Just as it rains, it ceases, leaving a clouded view or a clearer one. It will either 57

rain, snow or the sun will shine; the leaves will eventually change color. Grief is no different. It is simply there.

Certain days are better. Certain days are gut wrenching.

Certain days are simply that, days, where the gift of numbness wins over, clouding over the searing loss and emptiness that is ever present.

The day we lay my brother to rest, my mother so wanted the heavens to bellow with storm and a ferocity of wind to reflect her torment, but the heavens never cried that day.

Instead the sun shone brilliantly. The irony of it. Perhaps that was hope.

I have come to understand that pain can be a wonderful stepping stone toward spiritual growth. Adversity can act as a catalyst, providing great gifts in the art of letting go, and to love even greater.

When my family and I returned from NYC after burying Michael, and as we made our way back to Cape Cod, over 30 of my dear and loving friends were in my home awaiting our arrival. Within a half hour’s time, everyone congregated in my kitchen. My best friend, Debbie, described a dream she had just had the evening prior, concerning my brother. Everyone stopped talking, putting their attentions solely on her. She said “Michael came to me yesterday in a dream, late last evening. He was wearing his blue suit. He looked very peaceful. He told me to please tell my mother, my sister and my brother that I am fine and that I am with my father. To make sure they understand, I am giving them the Queen of Hearts.

Please let them know I love them very much.” I looked at Debbie and shouted, “Don’t move!” I bolted over to a wooden drawer. Inside my mind’s eye flashed a deck of cards. My children and I seldom played with them. They were in the same space I had put them when we first moved in five years ago. When I opened the drawer next to the telephone, I almost fell down. I pulled out the deck; all the cards were face down, except the very first card. It was face-up. It was also the Queen of Hearts. Everyone in the room gasped. It was a miraculous moment. I called my friend who was an expert on Tarot Cards. She relayed to me that the Queen of Hearts represents love of the family. Michael was offering us his love.

I felt incredibly blessed to have been part of this sacred occurrence in my home. At least 30 people witnessed the event. No one could deny otherwise. Also, Michael was buried in his blue suit. Debbie could not have known this.

I am reminded that there is an incredible light at the end of the most pressing grief. Michael appeared to my mother, my brother and myself as a reminder that life goes on and love never dies.

Live as if everything is a Miracle, and expect them daily.

Chakra is the Sanskrit word meaning “wheel” or “turning.” These “chakras” are energy vortices that can be found supporting the human physical vessel.

These energy centers support physical life from the non-physical or spiritual realms into the physical. These vortices, when off balance or not metabolizing fully, can create distortions in our reality. When a Chakra has been “out of balance” for some time it can, and does, lead to physical disease. All disease begins as an energetic imbalance which stem from something within your internal landscape needing attention. When we begin to work and honor these naturally organic systems within the body, we truly begin to master our health as well as evolve into high consciousness.

The first Chakra Color: Red Location: Base of Spine The first chakra is located at the base of the spine. It points down towards the earth. Chakra 1 and 7 are the only chakras with only one aspect to them.

Chakras 2-6 have two aspects to them; a front and back. The first Chakra reflects and metabolizes the life energies of survival, connection to our family of origin as well as our tribe. The First Chakra is also our grounding to the planet. When we experience “imbalances” in these realms, it is our Soul’s wisdom calling forth a time of growth. Instead of seeing imbalances see these as opportunities for transformation, for every physical plane 65

imbalance, there is an aspect of our Soul ready to bring forth the wisdom, love and transformation. It is the exercising of our free will that calls this into being. It’s all yours for the asking!

Poverty Consciousness and the First Chakra Perhaps you’ve felt a poverty consciousness throughout your life.

Having or not having money has little to do with the consciousness of poverty. One can have much money, and still feel broke. Here are some questions to probe the energies of Poverty in the 1st chakra.

Do you feel deserving of what you truly want?

Has your family or your tribe (cultural/societal) carried this consciousness in its linage?

Are you grounding enough of your own spiritual energy through you to manifest your own dreams and desires?

Are you open to receive that which you desire?

Spiritual Evolution and the First Chakra How does your “security” feel when you think about manifesting the life you truly want?

So often working with clients, I’ll notice they are powerfully assisting others in the manifestation of their dreams and desires, all while putting their own dreams on the back burner. Often issues of security come up as one contemplates pursuing their dreams. You might ask yourself why? There is no ”good” reason that anyone needs to give up their own dream for the sake of another, other than to learn not to do it.

Ask and ponder these questions: “Will I be supported in the manifestation of my dreams?”

“Will others still like and love me if I pursue my own path?”

“Do I manifest others’ dreams and desires, but at the cost of my own?”

“Am I willing to sacrifice my desires and dreams for that of another?”

Nothing is more powerful than a Soul on Fire…

Our familial and tribal energies often have us side on the condition of what is safe for survival of the collective verses what is needed for individual to evolve. This can hold true often to the detriment of the individual’s evolution into greater self expression. As Spiritual beings, constantly evolving, it is important for us to recognize this balance of feeling safe and secure before we can launch ourselves into the higher pursuits of spiritual evolution.

In order for you to powerfully manifest into the physical world you must be grounded into and through the root chakra. In order for us to raise families and communities that allow and support the individual to aspire to greater expressions of the self we need to bring great awareness to our relationship within our first chakra. This awareness is the stuff that changes worlds!

The Reward of Patience is Patience -- St. Augustine Patience is a quality that we can find in the first chakra. In order to manifest that which we are bringing forth into the physical it requires us to have patience and stability of vision.

Questions to ask self: Am I a patient person in general?

Do I have patience to manifest that which my Soul longs to realize?

Do I look for quick solutions, or fast “fixes” to problems or issues?

Where do your courage, fortitude and steadfastness come from?
