2009 Final Four
Oklahoma swept through its home state once again in the 2009 NCAA Championship en route to its second Final Four appearance. Following its sixth Big 12 season championship, OU was rewarded with the No. 1 seed in the Oklahoma City Region, ensuring a path through the Sooner State. Oklahoma dropped Prairie View (76-47) and Georgia Tech (69-50) in Iowa City, Iowa in the first and second rounds. At the Ford Center in Oklahoma City, the Sooner Nation swarmed to the best-attended regional site of the season as OU played in front of crowds of more than 11,000 on its home turf. The Sooners dispatched of Pittsburgh (70-59) and Purdue (74-68) to punch a ticket to St. Louis and the Final Four. Oklahoma fell to Louisville at the buzzer, 61-59, ending its remarkable run. The Sooners matched their single-season program record for wins with 32 and finished fourth in the national polls.
2002 Final Four
The University of Oklahoma women’s basketball program made history in 2002 with its first trip to the NCAA Final Four. The Sooners dominated NCAA action by winning five of their six games by an average margin of 21 points.
Oklahoma has proved its status as a national powerhouse with its frequent postseason action. The Sooners Have Appeared in 14 straight NCAA Championships, including finishing as the national runner-up in 2002.
After capturing the Big 12 Conference regular season and tournament titles, OU earned a No. 1 seed in the West Region and opened NCAA action inside the Lloyd Noble Center. With home court advantage, the Sooners advanced to the Sweet 16 with a pair of victories over Hartford (8452) and Villanova (66-53). However, in order to advance to the Final Four, OU had to eliminate two Big 12 teams in NCAA West Regional action. First up was Texas Tech. Oklahoma handed the Lady Raiders a 10-point loss (72-62), before routing Colorado, 94-60, for the right to play in the NCAA Final Four in San Antonio. Oklahoma shocked Duke with an 86-71 win in the NCAA semifinals before suffering a disappointing 82-70 loss to national powerhouse Connecticut in the national championship game. OU concluded the season 32-4 as the No. 2-ranked team in the Associated Press and USA Today/ Coaches Polls.
