Two Receive Academic Honors Hand Named Academic All-District Oklahoma’s Whitney Hand was voted to the Capital One Academic All-District 7 Women’s Basketball First Team, announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Hand graduated with a 3.76 GPA in health and exercise science in December. The Sooners have had 13 Academic All-District women’s basketball players in the 16-year tutelage of Sherri Coale. Both Hand and Joanna McFarland were also named to the Academic All-Big 12 Women’s Basketball First Team for the second straight season.
Campbell 4-Time Honoree Star Spencer Product Among Top Freshmen Sharane Campbell was named the Big 12 Freshman of the Week four times last season (Dec. 19, Jan. 2, Jan. 23, Feb. 6). Campbell led Oklahoma to an 89-57 win over Ohio in the opening game of the Duel in the Desert, scoring a career-high 19 points, then scored 17 in OU’s 82-54 rout of TCU. Most recently, Campbell averaged 21.5 points and 8.5 rebounds, leading OU to wins over Kansas and Oklahoma State. Robinson Receives Top VIII Award
Former Oklahoma women’s basketball standout Danielle Robinson was one of eight student-athletes recognized by the NCAA with one of its highest honors. Robinson was awarded the Top VIII award Friday, Jan., 13, at the NCAA Honors Convention in Indianapolis. The NCAA Today’s Top VIII Award recognizes student-athletes who completed their athletics eligibility during the previous academic year for their success on the fields and courts, in the classroom and in the community.
