the little OPERA THEATRE of NY presents Liberté, Egalité, et Fraternité Sunday, July 14 • 3 – 4 PM the little OPERA THEATRE of NY presents an afternoon of French opera including the work of Chevalier de Saint-George. LOTNY is a chamber opera company whose goal is to strip the artifice away from opera and present it as an intimate experience, enabling the audience to reconnect with the music, the performers, and the story. The Metropolitan Opera Summer Recital Series Thursday, August 1 • 7 – 8 PM Produced in association with SummerStage and the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation, The Met’s Summer Recital Series returns to Socrates for its third season, featuring three talented young Met singers performing arias and duets from a variety of operas.

Hip to Hip Theatre Company celebrates 7 years of Free Shakespeare in the Park Enjoy a tragedy one week and a comedy the next, performed in repertory by a professional troupe of actors. All performances are fun for the whole family. Bring a blanket or low chair and picnic fare, and enjoy a Shakespeare play in the open air. The Tempest Sunday, August 4 • 5 – 6:30 PM After twelve years on a deserted island, a deposed Duke is now a mighty sorcerer. He raises a storm at sea, bringing within his grasp the enemies who robbed him of his dukedom. Half romance, half political thriller, Shakespeare’s final masterpiece has it all: a shipwreck, conspiracy, magic, monsters, and love at first sight. Love’s Labor’s Lost Sunday, August 11 • 5 – 6:30 PM The King of Navarre and three noblemen take an oath to devote their lives to scholarship for three years – without the company of women. When the Princess of France and three ladies-in- waiting arrive, passion and puns abound. Will the oath hold? Or will the men succumb to the game of love? In this screwball romantic comedy, Shakespeare takes wordplay and wit to dizzying heights. Dance at Socrates Presented in partnership with Norte Maar August 5 – 31, Performances: Saturdays • 3 – 4:30 PM (weather permitting) Hosted by Socrates, Norte Maar, renowned for their cross-disciplinary collaborative projects, presents a new choreographic residency and performance series, bringing New York-based choreographers and their dancers to the Park. Each week during the month of August, a new choreographer will be in residence creating new works on a site-specific stage. Visitors to the Park will witness the working process of these dance-makers and experience fully produced, cutting edge performance every Saturday. SkowheganPerforms Saturday, September 28 • 1 – 5 PM Occupying the entire Park, SkowheganPerforms invites Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture alumni to activate Socrates with an afternoon of performance. The site-specific works are interspersed throughout the Park’s field of public artworks, inspired by Socrates’ unique outdoor setting.
