DALLAS --- Nick Russell scored 19 points and Hall of Fame coach Larry Brown won his SMU coaching debut as SMU defeated Loyola Marymount 73-58. Ryan Manuel added 14 points for SMU, Shawn Williams had 12 and Jalen Jones finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Loyola Marymount (1-1) was led by Anthony Ireland with 17 points.
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) -- Jalen Jones scored a career-high 21 points, including a careerhigh four 3-pointers, and SMU improved to 2-0 under coach Larry Brown with a 64-61 victory at TCU. Ryan Manuel added 16 points and Nick Russell 12 for the Mustangs, who held on despite missing five free throws in the last 15 seconds. TCU (2-1) played without junior Amric Fields, who was hurt 12 seconds into the game. SMU never trailed, leading wire-to-wire. The Mustangs' biggest lead was 11 at the 13:17 mark of the second half (47-36). SMU led at halftime 33-26.
