MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE DEMOCRATIC SOCIALIST REPUBLIC OF SRI LANKA I am pleased to send this message of felicitation to the Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA) on the occasion of its 125th anniversary, being celebrated with an international medical congress in Colombo and a series of medical conferences across the country. Over the past 125 years the SLMA has made an immense contribution to uplift the standards of the medical profession in Sri Lanka and thereby played a significant role in improving the healthcare services in the country. Its continued efforts to keep the standards of the medical profession at the highest levels are highly commendable. In the current post-conflict era of peace, the SLMA has recognized the larger role it has to play in improving the quality and standards of health in all parts of the country, including the North and the East. The International Medical Congress with the theme “The Global Forum of Sri Lankan Doctors� has attracted Sri Lankan doctors from all parts of the world to which they have taken the knowledge and experience gained in Sri Lanka and improved on them with their studies and practice abroad. I trust that all of them will come together for further development of the health sector in Sri Lanka as we move to the challenging phase of post-conflict development. I extend my good wishes to the SLMA on reaching this important milestone in professional development and service to the people and wish every success in the years to come. Mahinda Rajapaksa
