Cretan Diet The history of Cretan diet is very old. Archaeological findings show that Ancient Cretans, the Minoans, consumed about the same products that Cretans consume nowadays. In the Minoic palace great earthenware jars were found containing various products. Olive oil, nuts, beans and honey were the basis of everyday diet. The secret of longevity and good health is simple for the Cretans. They consume products produced by their land. A great deal of fruits, vegetables, bean, cheese and greens, the great aromatic plants coming from the Cretan mountains, olive oil, honey, products of the highest nutritional value are the basis of the Cretan cuisine. Meat has its own value and position on the Cretan table. At ancient years, they used to eat meat from the offerings to the shrines. In the earlier years, meat garmented tables every Sunday. The diet of the Cretan family has been maintained unsullied for centuries. Nowadays, as it has become known all over the world, its value is offered to the mankind as a valuable secret of life.
