Barbara Hepworth (British, 1903-1975) Rock Forms, 1961 Signed and dated “Barbara Hepworth 1961” l.l., inscribed, titled, and dated in the artist’s hand in pencil on the backing board, identified on a label from Gimpel Fils Gallery Ltd., London, affixed to the backing board. Oil and pencil on Masonite, 23 1/4 x 12 in. (59.1 x 30.5 cm), framed (under glass). Condition: Mild surface grime, Masonite panel mounted to a larger Masonite support measuring 27 3/8 x 15 3/8 in. (69.5 x 39.1 cm), surface grime to the support. Provenance: Purchased by Sam Booth, then by family descent. Literature: Recorded in Barbara Hepworth’s unpublished catalogue of her paintings and drawings as “D 451, Rock Forms, 1961” (Hepworth Estate). The frame of this work is thought to be original, with a notation in Hepworth’s hand on the back of the secondary support.
