2016 SAINT JOSEPH’S WOMEN’S LACROSSE MEDIA GUIDE 1

2016 SEASON OUTLOOK The Saint Joseph’s women’s lacrosse team will open the 2016 season at American University in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, February 20. The Hawks will play their first home game on Wednesday, February 24, the first of nine home games to be played on Sweeney Field this spring. Under the direction of second-year head coach Alex Kahoe, Saint Joseph’s returns 18 Hawks, including nine starters, and welcomes eight newcomers for the 2016 season. Senior midfielder Mallory Grey and junior attacker Nora McCallion were selected captains for the 2016 season. “We are looking forward to building off of the success of last season while continuing to make improvements every day,” said Kahoe. “The team is really excited about this year and is working very hard. The returners have a very committed mentality, and the freshmen bring a new energy and intensity to practice. Putting this together helps push the competitive nature of our team, which will help everyone moving forward.” The Hawks will embark on their 17th year in the Atlantic 10 Conference this spring, opening league action at home against Massachusetts on Friday, April 1 on Sweeney Field. Saint Joseph’s will see a five-home, four-road game schedule for conference play. The Hawks were voted eighth in the A-10 preseason poll, the league office announced on February 4. ATTACKERS The Hawks return two of last season’s three leading scorers, who combined for 40 goals and 18 assists, in juniors Sarah Smith (24g, 10a) and Nora McCallion (16g, 8a). This veteran duo will be expected to lead the Crimson and Gray on the offensive end of the field this spring. Turning in back-to-back seasons of 15+ goals and 20+ points, McCallion enters her third year as a starting attacker this season. She turned in a trio of hat tricks last season, including in wins over American and Monmouth, and posted a career-high six-point effort (2g, career-high 4a) in SJU’s win over Longwood. “Nora has the ability to quarterback our offense this year,” said Kahoe of her junior co-captain. “She has a great lacrosse IQ and excellent field vision.” Smith was one of four Hawks - and the only non-defensive player - to make all 16 starts last season en route to leading the squad in assists (10) and free position goals (6) and ranking second in points, goals, shots (58) and shots on goal (47). She scored in the first nine consecutive games of the season and posted a careerhigh seven-point effort (career-high 5g, 2a) in a win at Monmouth. As a result of a committed work ethic, Smith averaged 3.6 points per game and 3.0 goals per game in SJU’s five wins last year. The junior will be expected to be a scoring threat once again this year.

Sarah Smith

SJU’s only senior attacker, Bianca Angstadt turned in back-to-back 10+ point seasons over her freshman and sophomore campaigns and has made her way back into the rotation after coming off of an injury that sidelined her for all of last season. Redshirt freshman and 2014 High School All-American Morgan Lamey and freshman Francesca Donato (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy), a three-time All-Suburban One Conference First Team selection, will add to the attack.

2016 SEASON OUTLOOK MIDFIELDERS With her outstanding speed and raw talent, senior Mallory Grey transitioned from the back line to the midfield unit this offseason and will be called upon to lead the Hawks this spring. One of four Hawks to make all 16 starts last season, Grey ranked second on the squad in draw controls (33) and tied for third in caused turnovers (17) but will be utilized on both the offensive and defensive ends of the field in 2016. “With her speed, we need her in the midfield to be a two-way, dynamic player,” said Kahoe. “She has been more confident on the offensive end of the field and has been playing really well with the attack. We are looking forward to her stepping up this year on both ends of the field.” An exciting addition to SJU’s midfield comes in the form of rookie Rebecca Lane, out of Victoria, Australia (Maribyrnong College). This past summer, Lane co-captained the 2015 U-19 Australian National Team at the World Championships, where she recorded 24 points (13g, 11a) and 20 draw controls through seven games en route to being named to the All-World Team. “With Bec playing in two U-19 world cups, she has the experience we are looking for to take us to the next level,” said Kahoe. “Her dynamic play will make an impact both offensively and defensively in the 2016 season.” Junior Maggie Egan was outstanding on both the offensive and defensive ends of the field last season, ranking in SJU’s top four in points (22), goals (15), and assists (7) and adding 19 ground balls, 17 caused turnovers, and 17 draw controls, and will return in that capacity in 2016. “Maggie is a great defender,” said Kahoe. “She is athletic, dynamic, and explosive. She has the ability to be a strong, two-way midfielder, and we are excited for her potential.” A core group of sophomores will also be in the mix to make an impact this spring in draw control specialist Dana Garbinski, scoring threats Aly Gormley and Kristen Kelbon, and defensive standout Kate Payne. Injuries limited the playing time of both Garbinski (6g, 18 draw controls) and Payne (12 ground balls, 7 caused turnovers) last season, but both have worked hard and stepped up this offseason. Gormley (9g, 5a), a 2015 Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team selection, and Kelbon (7g) will also be called upon to make contributions on SJU’s offensive end. Both started more than half of SJU’s games last season and made all 16 appearances. Junior Megan Tracy, who recorded an impressive 6 ground balls and 6 caused turnovers to go with a goal and an assist through five appearances last season, and junior Taylor Dachowski bring additional depth and experience while four-time

All-Bayside Conference selection Ally Beck (Ocean City, Md./Stephen Decatur), two-time All-Inter Ac First Team pick Sinead Brierley (Oreland, Pa./Springside Chestnut Hill Academy), 2013 3A/4A state champion Michaela Cassidy (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck), and two-time High School All-American First Team selection Hayley Sabol (Londonderry, Vt./Burr and Burton Academy) will add to SJU’s midfield unit.

2016 SEASON OUTLOOK DEFENSE Senior veteran Caroline Hagan will anchor SJU’s defensive unit in 2016. A two-year starter who has played in 45 career games, Hagan is a solid defender that makes a significant impact for the Hawks on the back line. Last season, Hagan led the squad in caused turnovers (20), which moved her up to seventh on SJU’s list of all-time career caused turnovers (54). She has recorded 20+ ground balls and 20+ caused turnovers in back-to-back seasons, including 26 ground balls and 20 caused turnovers last year. “Returning as our anchor of the defense, Caroline’s speed and defensive awareness will make an immediate impact in her final season,” said Kahoe Classmate Courtney Emanuele is one of three returning Hawks to have made all 16 starts last season en route to ranking second on the squad in both ground balls (27) and caused turnovers (19). Against the 13th-best team in the nation, Emanuele turned in three ground balls and three caused turnovers against Penn and added a career-high four ground balls and a career-high four caused turnovers at St. Bonaventure. Junior Becky Daub made eight starts, including in the final seven games of the season, as a defender last year and turned in 12 ground balls and nine turnovers in 15 appearances. Graduate student Ashley Alden (Ivyland, Pa./William Tennent) enters her first season with the women’s lacrosse program after two seasons with SJU’s varsity softball squad. Her athleticism and versatility combined with the leadership and experience she brings day in and day out has made for an exciting addition to SJU’s defensive unit. Alden, junior Maura Monti and sophomore Catie Vivian will round out SJU’s back line. GOALKEEPERS Senior Genevieve Giblin (12-19) returns for her fourth season between the pipes for the Crimson and Gray in 2016. Giblin made 32 appearances with 29 starts in her first two seasons on Hawk Hill and turned in the fifth-best all-time, single-season goals against average (8.82) as a sophomore in 2014. She currently ranks sixth all-time in career saves (216) at SJU and owns a 9.84 goals against average and .410 save percentage in 1897:13. “She is the leader of our defense,” said Kahoe. “She has a positive attitude and has stepped up a lot. She has made a lot of changes and has found that she is able to make more saves and be more effective for us.” Freshman Jenna Ansell (Hunt Valley, Md.), who won two high school national championships at McDonogh, will back up Giblin in net.

2016 SEASON OUTLOOK SCHEDULE Saint Joseph’s will compete against members of seven conferences, including teams of the Patriot League, Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, Northeast Conference, Ivy League, Big East, and Atlantic 10, this spring. The Hawks’ 17-game schedule features nine home contests – including the Feb. 24 home opener against Monmouth – to be played on Sweeney Field. St. Joe’s will see an even four-home, four away game slate for non-conference play and will host five of nine Atlantic 10 games. The non-conference portion of the schedule will run from February 20 through March 23 while regular-season A-10 action will run from April 1-29. Saint Joseph’s will open the season with three February games, featuring a road game at American (Feb. 20) in Washington, D.C. and back-to-back home games vs. Monmouth (Feb. 24) and San Diego State (Feb. 27). The Hawks will play their final non-local, non-conference game at Wagner (Mar. 5) in Staten Island, N.Y., before returning to Philadelphia to host Penn (Mar. 8) and Columbia (Mar. 19) and heading to Temple (Mar. 12) and Villanova (Mar. 23). Of Saint Joseph's eight non-conference opponents, the Hawks faced six last season en route to posting a 3-3 record, including wins over American, Monmouth, and Wagner. SJU’s overtime loss to Temple was decided by just one goal.

This year will mark the first meeting between Saint Joseph's and San Diego State in program history while SJU and Columbia will meet for the first time in a regular-season game since 2004 and for the first time in a regular-season game under the direction of Coach Kahoe. SJU’s nine A-10 games will span the month of April, beginning with seven-time defending champion Massachusetts (Apr. 1) at home. The Hawks will then face Davidson (Apr. 3) down in Davidson, N.C. before returning home to host Richmond (Apr. 8). SJU will face city-rival La Salle (Apr. 10) before hosting back-toback A-10 opponents in Duquesne (Apr. 15) and St. Bonaventure (Apr. 17). The Crimson and Gray will face VCU (Apr. 22) in Richmond, Va. before closing out the home season vs. George Mason (Apr. 24) and the regular season vs. George Washington (Apr. 29) down in Washington, D.C. “We are looking forward to a competitive spring season,” said Kahoe. “We are excited to face strong teams during the non-conference portion of our schedule to help prepare for the Atlantic 10 season. The Atlantic 10 will be as competitive as ever in 2016, and we look forward to excellent competition during the month of April.” The 2016 Atlantic 10 Championship will be held at Duquesne University’s Rooney Field in Pittsburgh, Pa. from May 5-8. The league has expanded the postseason field from four to six teams for the 2016 season.

A five-time National Champion, three time All-American, and two-time NCAA Goalkeeper of the Year, Alex Kahoe returns for her second season as head coach of the Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse program in 2015-16. Kahoe was named the head coach of the Hawks on August 11, 2014. Most recently the head girls’ varsity lacrosse coach at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy, she is the third head coach in program history. “We are pleased and fortunate to have Alex and her rich experience as a scholarathlete, with six NCAA championship rings and extensive international service join the Hawk Hill community,” said Director of Athletics Don DiJulia. “Our student-athletes will greatly benefit from her leadership and passion to enhance their experience as Everyday Champions.” “I am incredibly excited about the vision and direction of the athletic department and the women’s lacrosse program,” said Kahoe. “It is an exciting time to be a Hawk. “St Joe's has tremendous resources academically, athletically, and geographically, in terms of both the university and the sport. I look forward to working with this team and leading them into a new era. I am excited to work with the student-athletes and to help guide them to being the best they can be on and off the field.” In 2015, Kahoe coached the women's lacrosse team to a 5-3 non-conference record for a .625 non-conference winning percentage and earned her first collegiate win as a head coach with SJU's 13-12 triple-overtime victory over American on February 18. The Hawks led the Atlantic 10 in draw controls per game (12.31) and ranked second in the A-10 and 10th nationally in caused turnovers per game (9.88) at the conclusion of the season. Under Kahoe's direction, Nora McGeever set the program record for most saves in a game (22) while Aly Gormley earned Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team accolades. A five-time national champion as a player at the University of Maryland, Kahoe brings valuable playing and coaching experience at the Division I level, having served as an assistant coach at five Division I programs over 13 seasons from 2000 to 2013. Kahoe helped guide those teams to seven NCAA Tournament quarterfinals, including four Final Four appearances, and the 2001 NCAA and ACC titles with the University of Maryland. Kahoe also coached four Tewaaraton Award winners and two members of the 2009 USA World Cup Championship team. Kahoe replaced Denise Roessler, who stepped down after 16 seasons as the head coach of the Hawks. Kahoe spent the 2013 season as the head girls’ varsity lacrosse coach at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy. At SCH, Kahoe also served as the project manager for the Center of Entrepreneurial Leadership where she researched, created, and implemented the new curriculum and programs associated with the center. Prior to her stint at SCH, Kahoe simultaneously served as the assistant women’s lacrosse coach for both the Canadian World Cup National Team and the University of Vermont squad from the fall of 2011 through the summer of 2013. Kahoe coached the Canadian National Team to the 2013 World Cup silver medal, which marked the first time in Canadian women’s lacrosse history that the program had defeated Australia and qualified for the championship game.

Duke took home three Tewaaraton Awards and landed 14 Blue Devils on the IWLCA All-America Team in those five seasons, while reaching the ACC Finals in 2009. Kahoe also has a proven track record of success in the classroom. During her five seasons with the Blue Devils, Duke had 27 ACC All-Academic Team selections, three IWLCA Academic Team honors and 2008 IWLCA Merit Squad honors for boasting the third-highest team GPA in Division I women’s lacrosse. Serving as the associate head coach from 2005-06 and the assistant coach from 2003-05, Kahoe coached the University of Delaware to its first-ever CAA Tournament with an appearance in the 2005 semifinals. ASSISTANT COACH Colleen Dawson Assistant Coach - 2nd Year Maryland ‘11

A 2010 National Champion and three-time ACC Champion at the University of Maryland, Colleen Dawson returns for her second season as an assistant coach on the Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse coaching staff in 2015-16. Dawson joined the Hawks after spending two years as the director of lacrosse operations at Loyola University of Maryland in Baltimore, where she was primarily responsible for running day-to-day operations of the program, including but not limited to film breakdown, travel, and meals. Additionally, Dawson organized the inaugural “Houndraiser,” a silent auction fundraiser that raised over $11,000 for the women’s lacrosse program. "I am extremely excited to welcome Colleen to our coaching staff at Saint Joseph's University," said head coach Alex Kahoe. "The championship experience that Colleen brings as a National Champion player at Maryland and the past two years with a Patriot League Championship at Loyola will help us as we prepare and develop our team. Colleen brings a passion and dedication that will immediately impact our student-athletes." Dawson has coached at both the youth and high-school level with the Richmond Rapids and D1 Finish Line, respectively, and has years of experience with instructional camps and clinics; at both Maryland and Loyola, Dawson worked alongside coaching staffs to run maximum exposure camps and clinics and spent time as a clinic instructor at Drawthority. Dawson was a member of the Maryland women’s lacrosse program from 2008-11, helping the Terrapins to three consecutive ACC Championships and the 2010 NCAA Championship. The scholar-athlete also excelled in the classroom, where she earned ACC Student-Athlete Honor Roll recognition and was a member of the Leadership Group. Following her collegiate career, Dawson spent a year abroad working with and coaching youth lacrosse programs in Australia. She coached the Footscray U-17 Team to the 2012 Premiership title and led all scorers on the 2012 Footscray State League Team. Dawson is a product of West Chester East High School, where she was a 2007 All-American, the All-Chester County Female Athlete of the Year, and an All-Conference and All-Area First Team selection. Dawson earned a bachelor’s of science degree in kinesiology from the University of Maryland in May 2011.

ASSISTANT COACH THE HAWK Becky Lynch Assistant Coach - 2nd Year North Carolina ‘12

A 2012 All-American and Tewaaraton Award Finalist at the University of North Carolina, Becky Lynch returns for her second season as an assistant coach on the Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse coaching staff in 2015-16. Lynch enjoyed a decorated four-year career at the University of North Carolina, where she was a Tewaaraton Award Finalist, First-Team-All American, and All-ACC selection in 2012. She is UNC’s single-season and all-time career assist record holder and the Tar Heel in program history to be named to the All-ACC Tournament Team for four consecutive years. She was recognized as a “Leader of Distinction” in 2012 by the Carolina Leadership Academy. "We are thrilled to have Becky as a part of our coaching staff," said head coach Alex Kahoe. "She had an incredible playing career, and her coaching experience will undoubtedly have an immediate impact on our program. I am very impressed with her ability to connect with, motivate, and inspire our student-athletes." Lynch spent the 2013-14 season as a volunteer assistant coach at the University of North Carolina, where she trained two All-ACC goalkeepers and worked with the scout team while assisting the offensive and defensive game strategies and execution. She has also been involved in local lacrosse development, where she directed the “Young Guns” local youth lacrosse program and led numerous clinics at the high school level. As a camp instructor at both Carolina Lacrosse and Amonte Lacrosse since 2008, Lynch has worked camps and clinics for lacrosse players looking to improve their fundamental skills. Lynch gained valuable experience working as a Lacrosse Ambassador for the English Lacrosse Association, out of Bedfordshire, England. She worked as a fulltime physical education teacher at Bedford Girls School and as a lacrosse specialist. She was inducted into the Garden City High School Sports Hall of Fame in June 2013 and is a current member of the United States National Women’s Lacrosse Team. Lynch earned a bachelor’s of arts degree in psychology from the University of North Carolina in May 2012. She was also selected to the 2015-16 U.S. Women's National Team.

THE HAWK

One of the most famous mascots in college sports, the Saint Joseph's Hawk has been flapping its wings for 59 years. The Hawk, which celebrated its golden anniversary in 2005-06, is best known for staying in constant motion by flapping its wings throughout every basketball game and representing the Saint Joseph's motto, "The Hawk Will Never Die." Saint Joseph’s athletic teams have been recognized with the nickname “Hawks” since 1929. At that time, the school’s yearbook editor initiated a contest among the student body for a symbol. More than 100 submissions were narrowed, with “Hawks” winning out over “Grenadiers” by a slim margin. The name was appropriate because it typified “the fighting spirit of our crimson and gray athletes and it is suggestive of the aerial attack which has made our football team famous.” Football, ironically, was discontinued at SJU following the 1939 season. The Hawk mascot has garnered numerous accolades in its over 50-year history. It has been selected as the nation’s top mascot by The Sporting News, Sports Illustrated, Sports Illustrated for Kids, Street & Smith’s Basketball Yearbook, ESPN College Basketball magazine and was nominated for the Mascot Hall of Fame in 2008. 2016 SAINT JOSEPH’S WOMEN’S LACROSSE MEDIA GUIDE 9

SWEENEY FIELD Sweeney Field, formerly known as Finnesey Field, has been home to 10 different varsity squads at Saint Joseph’s University in over 80 years of use. Opened in 1929 as home to the SJU football squad, the field has undergone numerous changes over the years and is the current home of the men’s and women’s soccer teams and the men’s and women’s lacrosse teams. The most recent upgrade occured this summer, as the TigerTurf that was laid down in 2008 was replaced with FieldTurf and Saint Joseph’s track was resurfaced. The field was renamed Sweeney Field in Fall 2013 upon completion of an extensive expansion project. The venue has significantly increased the seating capacity for SJU’s varsity lacrosse and soccer programs. The new name recognizes the contributions of Sean S. Sweeney ’94 (MBA), a member of the University’s Board of Trustees and the lead benefactor to the renovation project. Sweeney Field was blessed in conjunction with Hawktoberfest on October 12, 2013 while a formal dedication was held on April 5, 2014. The current expansion includes the addition of 1,200 permanent seats to the hillside nearest to the University’s iconic Barbelin Hall as well as the addition of 1,100 portable seats on the opposite side of the field, increasing total seating capacity to 3,000. In addition, the facility includes a new state of the art press box and enhanced sound system. Opened in 1929 and planned as the centerpiece to a 70,000-seat football stadium, SJU was forced to eliminate the field’s original grandstand and hillside seating in 1960 due to the construction of Villiger (now Post) Hall/Bluett Theater. Since 1990, the field has undergone a number of upgrades and enhancements designed to expand usage and functionality, including installation of AstroTurf artificial surface prior to the currently TigerTurf surface, lights, and bleachers. Additionally, the track received a new coat of rubber material in 2009 to better suit the athletes who use it for all seasons. Currently the home of SJU men’s and women’s varsity soccer and lacrosse teams, Sweeney Field has also served as the home venue for Hawk baseball, field hockey, football and softball, in addition to peripheral usage by the men’s and women’s track teams, along with countless club, intramural and recreational activities. Legend has it that a 1777 Revolutionary War skirmish took place on the site. Finnesey Field had been named after the late James T. Finnesey. A native of Wyncote, Pa., parishioner at the Gesu and president of a local auto manufacturer, he was a member of the Saint Joseph’s Foundation Committee which was established in 1922 to raise support for the College’s relocation to Philadelphia’s Wynnefield neighborhood. Finnesey was a lead donor to the stadium project in 1927. In 1990, artificial turf replaced the grass, making Sweeney a truemulti-purpose facility. In 1994, the installation of lights furthered the use of the grounds, while new bleachers in 2003 on the hill next to Mandeville Hall added another touch of renovation to a historic stadium.

Baseball re-occupied the space in 1947, calling Sweeney home until 1959, and the Saint Joseph’s men’s soccer program was started in 1958 and played every season but except 1960 at Sweeney. Leading up to the 2015 season, the squad had compiled an overall mark of 171-199-37 in 57 seasons, at Hawk Hill, the most victories of any program on Sweeney Field. SJU opened its playing grounds with a 6-0 victory over Rutgers-South Jersey in October 24, 1958. In 1990, artificial turf replaced the grass, making Sweeney a truly multi-purpose facility. In 1994 the installation of lights furthered the use of the grounds, while new bleachers in 2003 on the hill next to Mandeville Hall were another touch of renovation to a historic stadium. The field hockey team played on Sweeney Field until 2007 and now practices and hosts games on the new Ellen Ryan Field on the Maguire Campus. The location has also been home to women’s soccer since 1996 and the field hockey team wrapped up its last season on Sweeney Field in 2007. The women’s lacrosse squad is 78-110 in 23 seasons on Hawk Hill. The best season came in 2009 when the Hawks went 10-8 and played their way to the Atlantic 10 championship game. The first game was played on March 23, 1993 when SJU defeated Gwynedd Mercy, 18-4. The men’s lacrosse team has compiled an overall 72-91 mark in 23 seasons on Hawk Hill. SJU’s 5-1 regular-season home record in 2014 marked the best winning percentage in program history. Also in 2014, the Hawks earned their first win over a nationally-ranked opponent in program history with a 9-7 victory over #12 Bryant on April 5, the day that Sweeney Field was officially dedicated. Overall, the site has seen 1,298 games entering the 2015-16 academic year, and SJU teams put together a total record of 589-650-59.

ATLANTIC 10 CONFERENCE On March 2, 1975, the idea of what is now the Atlantic 10 Conference was conceived. What started as an eight-school, men’s basketball-only affiliation has grown into a 14-university, 21sport league that is universally hailed as one of the best conferences in the country, and is celebrating its 40thanniversary in 2015-16. That growth and prominence is a direct result of the ideals and commitments of the member institutions of the Atlantic 10 – Davidson College, The University of Dayton, Duquesne University, Fordham University, George Mason University, The George Washington University, La Salle University, University of Massachusetts, University of Rhode Island, University of Richmond, St. Bonaventure University, Saint Joseph's University, Saint Louis University and Virginia Commonwealth University. The Atlantic 10 was proactive in navigating sweeping conference realignment over the last few years, adding Davidson College, George Mason University and Virginia Commonwealth University. The additions have proven successful with all three institutions winning regular season and tournament championships. The league continues to draw national praise for its decisions during conference realignment in selecting strong academic institutions with basketball-centric, robust athletic programs. The 14 member institutions of the A-10 are united and strengthened by their diversity. Each is extraordinary in its educational mission, whether of a Catholic faith, a private university or a land grant institution. The varied pursuits of each member prove that there are many threads that weave the fabric for a great conference. The Atlantic 10 Conference, with a total population of over 76.5 million people within its geographic footprint of eight states and the District of Columbia, will crown champions in 21 sports this year: baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's cross country, field hockey, men's golf, women’s lacrosse, men's and women's indoor and outdoor track & field, women's rowing, men's and women's soccer, softball, men's and women's swimming & diving,

men's and women's tennis, and women's volleyball. The presidents and chancellors of Atlantic 10 institutions, in conjunction with Atlantic 10 Commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade, have made a strong commitment to making the academic and athletics equation a successful one. Over the years, the league membership has strived to better recognize the academic accomplishments of its student-athletes. The Commissioner's Honor Roll, which cites every Atlantic 10 student-athlete with a 3.5 grade point average or better, recognized 3,029 student-athletes in 2014-15, a record for a 14-team A-10. The league sponsors Academic All-Conference teams in each of its sports and honors two student-athletes as the A-10 Scholar-Athletes of the Year. Moreover, the Atlantic 10 provides $70,000 in postgraduate scholarships awards to 14 studentathletes, one from each campus. The Atlantic 10 Conference annually earns high marks in the NCAA Academic metrics. This includes graduating its student-athletes at an 89 percent rate according to the NCAA’s most recent Graduation Success Rate (GSR) figures, five percentage points higher than the national average. There were 90 A-10 teams with a perfect 1000 GSR score in the NCAA’s 2014 most recent report. The league also had an average Academic Progress Rate (APR) of 985 in 2015, seven points higher than the national average. A record 60 teams were singled out for public recognition for their APR scores by the NCAA this past spring. There were 51 teams with a perfect APR score of 1000 and another 71 teams that scored a 990 in the 2015 report. Success on the playing field has mirrored the A-10’s classroom prowess, with the league earning NCAA postseason bids in each of its 21 sports, including two men’s soccer bids and 11 men’s and women’s basketball bids in 2014-15. Dayton women’s basketball made a run to the Elite Eight, challenging eventual national champion UConn in the process, while VCU baseball advanced to the 2015 NCAA Super Regionals.

THE UNIVERSITY Founded in 1851, Saint Joseph’s is an independent, Catholic, Jesuit university teaching disciplined reasoning, effective communication and a love of learning. From Willings Alley in Old City Philadelphia to Stiles Street in North Philadelphia to its current location on City Avenue, Saint Joseph’s has continued to grow and change with the times. The University combines the Jesuit tradition of academic excellence, a history of service and an ideal campus location to produce successful students who strive to make a good world even better. Full-time, undergraduate day enrollment comprises approximately 4,670 students. Graduate, evening and executive programs push total enrollment to more than 8,000 students. THE JESUIT TRADITION OF ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE Saint Joseph’s nationally-recognized academic reputation is confirmed by ongoing acknowledgment in Barron’s, U.S. News & World Report and Peterson’s. The Jesuit tradition of intellectual inquiry and personal concern manifests itself in small, challenging classes taught by a caring faculty. Graduate assistants do not teach, so undergraduates can be sure they are receiving the very best educational experience from trained experts. One-on-one interaction between students and faculty is a reality at Saint Joseph’s. A solid liberal arts curriculum provides across-the-board learning for every student. Supporting that curriculum are comprehensive academic majors and learning facilities. The result is a broad education that prepares students not only for employment and graduate school, but for life itself. In the fall of 1998, SJU opened the $25 million Owen A. Mandeville Hall, which houses the Erivan K. Haub School of Business, the Center for Food Marketing and the region's first "Teletorium" and "Moot Boardrooms." An 87,000-square-foot international academic center featuring state-of-the-art distance learning technology, it is located near the corner of 54th Street and City Avenue.

A HISTORY OF SERVICE The students of Saint Joseph’s University are dedicated to making today’s world even better. A natural spirit of volunteerism has enabled the University’s community service programs to become the most popular extracurricular activities on campus. In addition, a Service Learning program allows students to receive academic credit for their work outside the classroom. SJU offers local, national and international opportunities for student service. From

North Philadelphia to Camden, N.J.; from New Orleans to the Appalachian Mountains, Saint Joseph’s students embrace the Jesuit mission of serving those in need. The Thanksgiving Dinner Dance for area senior citizens and the Hand-in-Hand Festival for the handicapped are two annual student-run events that draw thousands of special visitors to campus for fun and friendship.

IDEAL CAMPUS LOCATION SJU’s City Avenue location combines the best of dynamic Philadelphia with the suburban, residential setting of the elegant Main Line. Saint Joseph’s 65 acres span two counties, allowing students to literally enjoy the best of both worlds. The city of Philadelphia, with its tremendous wealth of historical, cultural, social and athletic attractions, is easily accessible, while the safety, serenity and greenery of a suburban campus are right at hand. The friendly atmosphere and close-knit campus ensure that students don’t get lost in either the literal or the figurative sense at Saint Joseph’s. Expanded library, computer and athletic facilities add a big-time “feel” to this growing university.

SUCCESSFUL STUDENTS Men and women leave Saint Joseph’s prepared. The University boasts an excellent record of placing its graduates in first-time jobs, professional schools and other

advanced degree programs. Part-time work and internships provide real-world experiences, the kind which delight future employers. And with its many diverse student organizations, SJU offers ample opportunities to assume leadership positions. An extensive on-campus recruitment program provides graduates with a head start in their employment search. Regular meetings with faculty advisors, along with advisory programs in the health professions and in pre-law, assist students who wish to further their schooling.

PHILADELPHIA SJU’s Philadelphia location gives students access to two worlds. The campus resembles a park, surrounded by the stately homes of Philadelphia’s historic Main Line suburbs. Yet students have access to the cultural, commercial and recreational activities of downtown Philadelphia -– only a short ride away. SJU students take frequent advantage of the artistic and cultural resources Philadelphia offers, as well. They visit the Philadelphia Museum of Art; the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts; the Franklin Institute Science Museum; the Academy of Music, which houses ballet and opera; and the new Kimmel Center, home to the Philadelphia Orchestra. In addition, SJU students enjoy rooting for Philadelphia’s teams in the four major professional sports leagues.
